Goals, dreaming, and consistent agent prompts

  • Hourly heartbeat reviews active and blocked goals, updates status and next actions, and advances authorized missions.
  • The eight-hour memory-consolidation job is now called dreaming. It reconciles source-backed notes, deduplicates knowledge, flags contradictions, and records coverage without treating its own reports as new evidence.
  • Shared prompts now emphasize delivery verification, continuity across interruptions, scoped background work, privacy, and resistance to instructions embedded in retrieved content. SOUL remains a concise, deliberately maintained statement of values and voice.
  • Onboarding explains goals, dreaming, memory, and tools. Documentation encourages OKF-inspired Markdown for long-term knowledge, tasks, TODOs, and goals.
  • Goal context is a bounded private-chat index, with blocked goals and symlink protections. Default memory retrieval excludes dream reports.
  • Fixed a timing-dependent background-subagent test caught by macOS CI.

Upgrading existing instances

Update your checkout as well as binaries to receive shared prompts and documentation. Existing private workspace/self/ files are deliberately not overwritten. Review and adapt the new heartbeat, onboarding, and dreaming templates against your customizations; see the migration instructions.

Bootstrap recognizes an existing knowledge_extraction.md job as the dreaming slot and preserves its ID, schedule, notifications, disabled state, and custom prompt. Do not add a duplicate job. Install/adapt the dreaming prompt explicitly; missing prompts do not create broken default jobs.

Prompt-level security guidance is not a replacement for runtime access controls.

Downloads

Choose darwin for OS X/macOS or linux for Ubuntu Linux, and arm64 for Apple Silicon/ARM64 or amd64 for Intel/AMD64. Each archive contains goated, workspace/goat, VERSION, README, and LICENSE. SHA256SUMS covers all four archives.

Builds are unsigned and supplement an existing checkout/configuration. This release does not restart or deploy any daemon.

Validation

Local macOS full tests and go vet passed; binaries were built through build.sh for all four targets. macOS and Ubuntu CI validate tests, vet, and build.sh. Targeted race tests and 100 consecutive runs of the repaired background test passed during PR validation.

Changes: #44.
