Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@eventtech-io eventtech-io released this 30 Oct 11:32

ProSight tells you which switch, port and VLAN a wall socket is patched to — from a laptop and an ordinary Cat5e/6 lead — plus live hosts, Dante devices, OSC traffic and link health.

⚠️ Pre-release. This is the first build of the new cross-platform version. Please run the self-test after installing and report anything odd in Issues.

Downloads

Platform File
Windows 10/11 (Intel/AMD) ProSight-2.1.0-win-x64.zip
Windows on Arm ProSight-2.1.0-win-arm64.zip
macOS 12+ (Apple Silicon) ProSight-2.1.0-osx-arm64.zip
macOS 12+ (Intel) ProSight-2.1.0-osx-x64.zip

All builds are standalone. Nothing else to install.

First launch

  • Windows: if "Windows protected your PC" appears, click More info → Run anyway.
  • Mac: move ProSight to Applications. If it won't open, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Click Allow when asked about the local network.

Check your install: ProSight.exe --selftest (Windows) or /Applications/ProSight.app/Contents/MacOS/ProSight --selftest (Mac).

What's new

  • Mac version, native on Apple Silicon and Intel. Listen asks for your Mac password only when it runs.
  • Standalone builds: one ProSight.exe on Windows, a self-contained ProSight.app on Mac.
  • Loading screen and progress bars with percentages for every wait.
  • Who's up? probes ports in parallel, so a /24 takes seconds. It also finds silent devices via ARP and adds MAC, vendor and hostname columns.
  • Listen stops at the first LLDP/CDP announcement when Wireshark is installed, and the default wait is now 65 s so CDP-only switches are always caught.
  • Dante sends 3 queries on the selected adapter, lists only real Dante devices, and keeps demo data clearly separate.
  • Load / Monitor add multicast + broadcast Mbps (Windows), continuous one-second monitoring, and a cabling warning when a gigabit drop links at 100 Mbps.
  • OSC decodes bundles and shows messages/s per address.
  • Built-in self-test (--selftest).

Fixes

  • No admin needed at launch: ProSight no longer requires Administrator to start; only Listen asks.
  • Malformed packets:
    • A malformed mDNS packet could crash the app.
    • A malformed OSC packet could stop the listener.
  • Hangs:
    • Listen could hang if a capture tool produced a lot of output.
    • On a Mac, a capture that heard nothing could fail to stop.
  • Wrong results:
    • Ranges like 10.0.0.1-50 were always rejected.
    • Dante searched the default adapter instead of the selected one.
    • Error counts were doubled.
  • Display: clipped layout at 125%/150% display scaling.

Known limitations

  • Listen needs a managed switch that sends LLDP or CDP.
  • On a Mac, Flood in shows n/a (macOS doesn't expose multicast byte counts), and devices seen only in the ARP cache are marked arp (cached).
  • Builds aren't code-signed yet, hence the first-launch warnings above.
