Windows: how to play
- Unzip
fe8-pc-port-v1.1-windows.zipinto a folder of your own (not inside the zip, Program Files or a cloud-sync folder). - Put your
.gbafile in the same folder asfe8pc-sdl.exe. - Run
fe8pc-sdl.exe. The exe isn't signed, so Windows may warn you the first time. Choose "More info", then "Run anyway".
Updating from v1.0: replace fe8pc-sdl.exe and SDL3.dll. Your saves and settings carry over.
What's new in v1.1
Everything new is in Reforged Options (title menu → Extras). With every new option at its default, the game plays as v1.0 and as the GBA original.
- Randomizer, seeded, in the manner of the Universal FE Randomizer: growths, bases, classes (player, boss, enemy), recruitment (who joins where, with names, portraits and dialogue following), weapons, rewards, drops and shops, characters' own battle colours on new classes, and a Nuzlocke rule (deaths stay through resets). It applies to the next New Game; each save keeps the run it was started with.
- Game fixes: six optional fixes to the original's rules (early kill EXP, promoted enemies' growths, AI healers on full-HP units, Canto after a cancelled Trade, the Devil Axe at very high Luck, the Chapter 15 staff drop). Off by default, chosen per run.
- Controls (two keys and two gamepad buttons per GBA button), Display (window size, scaling, smoothing, fullscreen), Option sets, and command-line settings.
- During a chapter: the map menu's Reforged entry changes the options that are safe mid-run and shows what the run was started with. Randomizer and game-fix settings can't be changed mid-run.
- Fixed: a Dancer fighting with a tome could freeze the battle (reproduced on the GBA first; part of "Original-game bug fixes", on by default).
- Checked: saves from late in both stories and the post-game match mGBA's and move between the PC and mGBA both ways.
Keep the small .reforged file next to your .sav: it holds a randomized game's settings. Full list: CHANGELOG.md. Guide: PLAYING.md. Fixes: PATCH-NOTES.md.

What's in it
- The game plays like the GBA original. It was checked tick by tick against mGBA on routes through both stories and the post-game.
- Reforged Options (title menu → Extras): optional extras such as fast-forward, danger zone, casual mode, HP bars and cheats. Everything is off at first except fast-forward and two fixes for freezes in the original game (Pierce, and Riev's Chapter 20 softlock). See PATCH-NOTES.md.
- Linux: build from source (BUILDING.md).
