Note

Active development has moved. react-native-gifted-chat is in maintenance mode. New features (including streaming AI messages) and the latest fixes land in the maintained fork @kesha-antonov/react-native-chat. Same API and IMessage model, migrating is mostly a rename: migration guide with a codemod.

What's Changed

CHANGELOG

Features

  • Dev-only notice: in development builds GiftedChat logs a one-time console.warn pointing to @kesha-antonov/react-native-chat, since the install-time notice is hidden by npm 7+ and skipped by pnpm 10 and bun. Never shown in production or under Jest. Turn it off with the new disableMaintenanceNotice() export.

Maintenance

  • Links to the maintained fork in the README (installation, AI chat, questions, contributing), the issue template, the stale-bot comment and the Expo Snack README.
  • The npm package description and the install-time notice now point to the fork and its migration guide.

No API changes.
