aBookPlayer 1.12.1
Faster audiobooks from a text
- Several sentences at a time. On the processor up to four sentences are spoken at once (about twice as fast as before). On the graphics card the app adds copies of the voice as long as each one makes it clearly faster. The first line of the log says what was chosen and how fast it is, for example
On the graphics card, 3 sentences at a time: 31× real time (the processor: 14×). - CUDA for NVIDIA cards, as an option. With an NVIDIA card the window shows NVIDIA card: use CUDA instead of DirectML. CUDA is downloaded on demand (1.5 GB, 2.2 GB on the disk): ONNX Runtime for CUDA from nuget.org, CUDA 12 and cuDNN 9 from NVIDIA's own server, under NVIDIA's license. It needs an NVIDIA driver of 2025 or later; with an older one the log says so and the processor is used.
CUDA for the transcription too
- With an NVIDIA card the transcription window shows NVIDIA card: use CUDA instead of Vulkan. Whisper's CUDA library (250 MB) and NVIDIA's CUDA libraries are downloaded on demand.
- NVIDIA's libraries are shared by the transcription and by the voices: what one has downloaded, the other does not download again (766 MB for the transcription alone, 1.5 GB for the voices alone, about 1.75 GB for both).
Switching between CUDA and DirectML or Vulkan takes effect the next time aBookPlayer is opened, if the speech engine or Whisper was already in use.
CUDA could not be tried on an NVIDIA card before this release: if something does not work, untick the box and it goes on as before.
The Android app has no changes besides the version number.
