Frameropia v0.0.3 (test build)
Frameropia v0.0.3 — Patch Notes
Pokémon Pokopia photo reliability update and new Frameropia identity.
This release is based on v0.0.2 plus the user-validated DMA readback flush from draft PR #17 (merged as 777181dd). It does not include the experimental photo and performance patches rejected during testing.
Technical changes
Pokémon Pokopia: improved photo readback
- After an accelerated Switch 2 DMA image-to-buffer copy succeeds, flush the destination buffer region to guest memory before the operation completes.
- This makes the photo data available to the game's CPU-side image encoding path, preventing many cases where stale pixels or rows were saved.
- Keep the behavior scoped to Switch 2, and retain an opt-out for diagnostic comparison:
EDEN_NX2_DMA_READBACK_FLUSH=0. - Credit: adaptation of notsapinho/Eglantine commit 7dde4f15.
New application branding
- Add a transparent orange-gradient F logo, displayed in the README.
- Replace the Windows executable's embedded application icon and the Qt icon resource with the Frameropia logo.
- Keep the application and command-line executable names
frameropia.exeandframeropia-cli.exe.
Documentation and testing
- Redesign the README with clearer download, testing, compatibility and attribution sections.
- Document observed photo results and explicitly list outstanding first-capture issues.
- Preserve the artifact-only Windows CI workflow for isolated graphics experiments.
Validation
The user tested a Windows build containing the DMA fix, with 48 correct pictures out of 50 in the initial series (96% correct). Subsequent testing showed that some photos still fail, especially immediately after starting the emulator. In three independent startup sessions, the first photograph was corrupt in all three; in one session the second photograph was corrupt too. A separate rapid-capture test saw an image shifted vertically with wraparound.
Interpretation: photo reliability has improved greatly, but the bug is not fully fixed. These figures are observations from one tester and should not be treated as universal success rates.
Excluded changes
The following experiments were not merged and are not part of v0.0.3:
| Test / PR | Reason for exclusion |
|---|---|
| #16 — generic buffer readback range clipping | All tested photos became corrupt. |
| #18 — direct linear texture uploads | No noticeable performance gain in user testing; did not include the photo fix. |
| #19 — deferred texture uploads | No noticeable performance gain and severe bright-pink sky rendering regression. |
| #20 — initial photo DMA CPU fallback | All tested photos became corrupt. |
No claim is made that this release independently achieves 60 FPS. The steady 60 FPS previously observed on notsapinho's build 24 involved additional changes that have not been validated or integrated into Frameropia.
Known limitations
- Pokémon Pokopia's first photo after a fresh emulator start can be corrupt; occasionally a second photo is affected.
- Rare photo corruption and vertical wraparound can still occur.
- Shader compilation as a contributor to the remaining photo failures is unproven.
- No guarantee of fixes for other game-specific graphical bugs or performance regressions.
Track remaining photo issues in #14.
Plain-English summary
Frameropia has a new orange F logo and takes Pokémon Pokopia photos far more reliably. The most successful test produced 48 good photos out of 50, compared with the much worse behavior seen before the correction. It's a real improvement, but the first photo after opening the game can still be broken.
We've intentionally left out several attempted fixes that caused worse photos or graphical problems. Your old settings and saved games should remain in the same locations.

Frameropia v0.0.2 (test build)
Frameropia v0.0.2 — Patch Notes
First fully rebranded Frameropia test build for Windows. This version builds on v0.0.1 and the Eglantine nx2 source, with the changes specific to this fork listed below.
Changes in this fork
Application branding
- Rename the visible emulator application to Frameropia throughout the main window, Help menu, About dialog, settings pages, game boot windows, shortcuts and error messages.
- Rename Windows binaries to
frameropia.exeandframeropia-cli.exe. - Update Linux desktop/AppStream metadata, macOS app bundle display name, Windows installer metadata and Arch packaging to match the Frameropia name.
- Route the fork's own project, help, source code, release and issue-reporting links to Framerr/Frameropia; preserve links to third-party dependencies and upstream credits.
- Remove Discord links and the Discord presence option from the user interface, and disable Discord presence even for old configurations.
Build and release reliability
- Fix the CMake parent-level executable-name override that was still generating
eden-cli.exeafter the frontend had been renamed. - Fix release packaging to create one complete Windows ZIP with both binaries, required DLLs and Qt plugins rather than separate plugin-folder ZIP files.
- Check the packaged filenames before allowing a release to publish.
- Repair the historical
v0.0.1release by restoring a complete Windows archive from its original successful build; keep its tag and original code intact. - Keep preflight checks and dedicated Windows build validation for subsequent changes.
Compatibility and project organization
- Preserve pre-existing Eden/Eglantine configuration, cache and save directories to avoid accidentally separating the user from their settings and saved games.
- Continue maintaining the Pokémon Pokopia testing checklist and bug-report form.
Plain-English summary
Frameropia now has its own name inside the program, not just on GitHub. The main improvement here is consistency: the emulator, its executable files, menus and download archive should all use the Frameropia name. We also corrected the release system so you receive the whole application in one usable ZIP.
Your existing settings and saved games should continue to use the same folders as before. This update does not claim to fix Pokopia's graphical issues, crashes, missing objects or performance. Those still require practical testing, and you can report the results using GitHub Issues.
Extract the entire Windows ZIP before running frameropia.exe. Do not upload game content, keys or firmware with your bug reports.

Frameropia v0.0.1 (legacy test build)
Frameropia v0.0.1 — Patch Notes
This historical v0.0.1 build predates the full Frameropia application rebrand; its executable may still be labelled Eglantine.
First experimental release of this fork, focused on testing Pokémon Pokopia.
This version is based on Eglantine's nx2 branch. Features and fixes inherited from upstream are not presented as new work in this fork.
Changes in this fork
Graphics and emulation
- Vulkan — null texel-buffer views: use
VK_WHOLE_SIZEinstead of a zero-length range when creating a view of the fallback buffer. - Vulkan — fallback buffer capabilities: add
VK_BUFFER_USAGE_UNIFORM_TEXEL_BUFFER_BITandVK_BUFFER_USAGE_STORAGE_TEXEL_BUFFER_BITso the fallback buffer can be used with texel-buffer descriptors. (PR #1)
Releases, builds, and maintenance
- Establish the fork's own 0.0.1 version and changelog. (PR #2)
- Allow stable releases to be started manually using the
ciworkflow. (PR #3) - Add
fork-preflightchecks for version metadata, release notes, and CI shell scripts on pull requests and pushes tonx2. (PR #5) - Add
fork-windows-releaseto build and publish Windows test versions using Eglantine's existing workflows. (PR #6) - Remove the inherited
Retarget PRsworkflow, which failed because it expected annx2-experimentalbranch that does not exist in this fork. - Add fork-specific patch notes with a plain-English summary. (PR #7)
Testing and issue reporting
- Add a Pokémon Pokopia testing guide covering startup, save loading, world geometry, lighting, photos, audio, saving, and performance.
- Add a dedicated Pokopia bug-report form, update the README, and document the build and release process. (PR #4)
- Remove six unused inherited issue templates, leaving only the Pokopia form and its configuration. (PR #8)
Plain-English summary
This is the first test version of Frameropia. We have corrected how the emulator handles certain empty graphics resources. That change makes the graphics code more robust, but it has not yet been shown to fix a specific issue in Pokémon Pokopia.
We have also organised the project so that Windows test builds can be produced, basic checks run automatically before changes are merged, and bugs can be reported using a dedicated form.
What still needs testing: whether Pokopia starts reliably, whether furniture and other objects appear correctly, whether photos contain visual artifacts, whether lighting looks right, and how well the game performs. These are targets for future fixes, not problems we can claim are solved.
If you find a problem, please include the build version, steps to reproduce it, and a relevant emulator log if available. Check logs for personal information before sharing them.
