English

Dash 2.0 goes into the main branch. There is one command, ./dash, which compiles in two ways:

  • Straight to hunk, the default: Dash's compiler generates the 68000 code and the executable itself. All it needs is a C compiler for the PC, make and Python 3 (make -C dashc takes a few seconds), and it also runs on the Amiga itself.
  • Through C with gcc, with ./dash --gcc: the program becomes C and bebbo's Amiga gcc builds it, as in 1.x. It is needed for programs with C inside (@native, @c, @header) and for gcc's options (-O, --small...). If ./dash sees C in a program, it takes it this way by itself and says so.

How to install each path, on Linux, macOS and the Amiga: README, Installation.

What's new since 2.0.0

  • One command. What was ./dash1 in 2.0.0 is now ./dash --gcc, and on the Amiga the command is called dash.
  • Amiberry with JIT no longer closes. On Amiberry 8.2.2 with JIT the whole emulator closed with some programs. The bug is in Amiberry and has been reported; Dash no longer generates the instructions that trigger it. On an A500, some very tight loops compiled through C run up to 10 % slower.
  • Several programs measuring the CPU at once (cpu_start, cpu_sample) now all see every task. Before, they shared them out.

For the Amiga

dash-2.0.1-amiga.lha has the dash command, its runtimes, lib/, the examples and its own installer (Instalar). It puts the Dash drawer wherever you choose and adds the DASH: assign and the Path to S:User-Startup. It also includes Forja, Dash's IDE, and Inferencia, the AI that programs on the Amiga talking to Forja through ARexx. It needs a 68000 and AmigaOS 2.0 or later; Forja and Inferencia use MUI.

VS Code

Extension 0.4.0, separate in the releases, uses the new debugger and ./dash --gcc.
