v1.6.4 - 2026-07-02

UI polish pack — ~25 small display/interaction fixes from a full UI/UX audit, adversarially verified item-by-item before release. The native protocol stays 1.

Fixed

  • Honest composer copy. The placeholder/hints promised "Type @ to add context" but no @ trigger exists (only / is wired); the copy now points at the + button (typed @compile-log still resolves and still documented). Real @ autocomplete lands in 1.7.
  • Failed reports read as failed. The failed completion report's alert color was silently reset by the conclusion's base style; failure now stays red.
  • Destructive confirms are keyboard-safe. Delete dialogs open focused on Cancel, a bare Enter no longer confirms them, and Tab cycles inside the dialog (focus trap) instead of drifting onto Overleaf.
  • Readable action buttons in both themes. New --tl-on-solid ink token replaces white-on-pastel text on the confirm/undo/accept solid fills (was ~1.7:1 in dark theme); hover states no longer turn white-on-light-grey in the light theme.
  • Subagent rows get their own visual track. Parallel-subagent timeline lines are indented with a left rail (flag carried through the event bridge and both storage compactors, so the track survives reloads).
  • High-signal rows stop truncating. Warning/failed timeline lines wrap to two lines instead of clipping mid-sentence.

Added

  • Attachments are discoverable. A file-picker button in the + context tray (paste/drop still work); the + hint now mentions attachments.
  • Diff hunks show where they land. Each hunk carries a "Line N · M lines" location header (the data existed, it was never rendered).
  • Composer ergonomics. The task box auto-grows with content (58-160px, single height mechanism), Send disables on an empty composer (Cancel is never disabled), and Esc closes the model popover and the context tray (layered: one Esc, one layer).
  • Visibility polish. Active session row gets an accent bar; the dashboard's expand caret is brighter; dashboard/session lists show loading placeholders instead of blank panes; the diagnostics dot has per-state tooltips; toasts fade in; themed scrollbars everywhere in the panel.
  • Accessibility. aria-labels on the diff icon buttons and jump-to-latest pill; the completion report is an aria-live region.

Changed

  • A missing native host now says "not responding — click for setup steps" instead of claiming an update is available; the experimental OT setting describes itself in plain language; diff colors joined the theme-token system (with an AA-safe light-theme green); × glyphs unified.

Release

  • Release metadata alignment: bumped package, extension manifest, compatibility target, README release commands / badges, and release tracking metadata to 1.6.4 while keeping native protocol 1.
  • Current release artifact names now resolve to codex-overleaf-link-extension-v1.6.4.zip, codex-overleaf-native-host-v1.6.4.tar.gz, and codex-overleaf-link-1.6.4.tgz.
  • Native host install remains npm exec --yes codex-overleaf-link@1.6.4 -- install-native.
  • Native host diagnostics remain npm exec --yes codex-overleaf-link@1.6.4 -- doctor.
  • Native host uninstall is npm exec --yes codex-overleaf-link@1.6.4 -- uninstall-native.

npm native host package

Install or update the native host with the pinned npm package. Official release builds use the bundled stable extension id by default; pass --extension-id only for a custom or mismatched unpacked extension id:

npm exec --yes codex-overleaf-link@1.6.4 -- install-native

Run native diagnostics with the same pinned package:

npm exec --yes codex-overleaf-link@1.6.4 -- doctor

Uninstall the native host with the same pinned package:

npm exec --yes codex-overleaf-link@1.6.4 -- uninstall-native
