@HHHHanasak1 HHHHanasak1 released this 05 Nov 01:00

The sleep fix (step 15) and PQ HDR (step 16) now keep working across SteamOS kernel updates without a new fix pack.

  • Their kernel modules (xevmafix, xehdrfix) are built automatically for every SteamOS main kernel and published in the modules release. The script downloads the pair for the running kernel (sha256 checked against SHA256SUMS).
  • Run the script again after a SteamOS update, as before. That also installs the modules for the new kernel.
  • Builds exist for kernel 7.2.7-valve2-3 (SteamOS main 20261103.1000) and 7.2.10-valve1-3 (20261104.1000).
  • The release archive no longer contains the modules.

Download oxp3-fix.tar.gz, extract it to ~/oxp3-fix and run oxp3-apply-fixes.sh (see the README).

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Nov 00:46

xevmafix and xehdrfix built by CI for each SteamOS main kernel. oxp3-apply-fixes.sh downloads the pair for the running kernel; you do not need these files by hand. SHA256SUMS lists every module, index.txt maps package version + source hash to the kernel release.

  • SteamOS main 20261103.1000: the sleep fix (step 15) and PQ HDR (step 16) are rebuilt for its kernel 7.2.7-valve2-3 (the same source as before, rebuilt with a new toolchain). On the previous SteamOS build they are skipped, so update SteamOS first.
  • InputPlumber 0.83: SteamOS now ships InputPlumber 0.83, which has its own ONEXPLAYER 3 support. The fix pack keeps that config and only changes the keys back: Home → Steam menu, Keyboard → on-screen keyboard, Console → Quick Access. The dock's keyboard interface is added as well, so Console and Keyboard should also work on the connector dock (not tested on the dock yet). Home and the G-key on the dock can't work with 0.83: its driver only reads the handheld's own chip.
  • Gyro: the experimental gyro needs InputPlumber 0.78 and is skipped on 0.83. InputPlumber 0.83's own gyro sends wrong axes on this device, so a gyro you set up earlier is removed (your opt-in is kept).
  • Speakers, important if you had silent speakers after 20261029: on a boot where the sound chip isn't ready, the speaker check (step 12) used to switch the speaker profile off and back on. If switching back failed too, the sound card stayed off and WirePlumber remembered that, so the speakers stayed silent on every later boot. It now restarts WirePlumber instead and keeps the volume, and a sound card left switched off is switched back to the speakers.
  • Security: everything a root service runs or loads (the helper scripts, the patched InputPlumber, both kernel modules) now lives root-owned in /var/lib/oxp3-fix. Before, it was in ~/oxp3-fix, where any program running as deck could have replaced it and got root. The Wi-Fi firmware package now comes through pacman with its signature checked, and a read-only root filesystem is made read-only again after the run.
  • Battery and idle: the background services wake the CPU less often (CPU power overlay every 2 s while idle, no process forks in the TDP and battery loops), and the panel fix can no longer hold up booting for 20 s.

As after every SteamOS update, run the fix pack again:

  • Controller connector dock: the Console and Keyboard buttons now also work with the controllers on the dock (issue #23). InputPlumber now also reads the dock chip's keyboard interface (HID 1a86:fe02).
  • Speakers: the speaker check (step 12) also fixes a rare boot where the speakers stay almost silent. The sound chip was not ready when PipeWire set it up, so the hardware volume stayed very low. The check now notices that and sets the speakers up again.

@HHHHanasak1 HHHHanasak1 released this 28 Oct 03:25
  • Real HDR. HDR games now get PQ (BT.2020, SMPTE ST 2084) instead of the gamma-2.2 path, so highlights reach the panel's 1100 nits. New step 16, xehdrfix, is a small kernel module that fixes the three xe problems that made PQ black, frozen or stuck at 30 Hz on this OLED. Panel Replay stays on. Details in xehdrfix/README.md.
  • Like xevmafix, the module is built for SteamOS 20261026.1000 (kernel 7.2.7-valve2-2). On any other kernel it's skipped and HDR games stay on the gamma-2.2 path, so nothing goes black after a SteamOS update.
  • In PQ, gamescope shows the SDR parts of an HDR game (menus, the overlay) at a fixed SDR white (400 nits by default) instead of stretching them over the panel's range, so they can look darker than before. That's how PQ works.

  • Home and the G-key work with the controllers on the connector dock (#23). The controller connector has its own chip (1a86:fe02) that sends these keys. Stock InputPlumber 0.78 only reads the handheld's fe00 and drops the G-key code. Our patched InputPlumber now reads fe02 too and maps the G-key to the Steam menu, like on the handheld. We don't have the connector, so this is tested only on the handheld (all keys, paddles and gyro unchanged).
  • The patched InputPlumber is now installed for everyone, not only with the gyro. If it can't run, the stock binary starts instead, as before. The gyro itself stays opt-in: --no-gyro removes only the gyro files, and --revert removes everything.
  • README: reviewed all READMEs and fixed outdated details.

@HHHHanasak1 HHHHanasak1 released this 22 Oct 01:59
  • Big games no longer crash after waking from sleep (new step 15, xevmafix, contributed by kas5852 in #26). Games with many GPU mappings, such as FF7 Rebirth, crashed with "out of memory" about 2 s after resume, because xe rebinds every mapping in one kmalloc array that goes past 4 MB. A small kernel module lets that array come from vmalloc, the same change Intel made in drm-xe-next.
    • It loads only on kernel 7.2.7-valve2-1-neptune-72. On any other kernel the step skips itself until a rebuilt module ships.
    • --check shows how many large rebinds happened since boot and whether any would have failed without it.
  • Overlay: GPU power and the SoC total no longer go missing. On some boots the kernel skips the GPU energy zone. Step 10 now notices that, brings the zone back once and restarts the overlay.
  • README: tested configuration updated to SteamOS main 20261021.1000.

@HHHHanasak1 HHHHanasak1 released this 18 Oct 01:41
  • OLED stays on with BIOS 5.11 and later (new step 13, contributed in #15). On BIOS 5.11/5.12 the panel froze and then went black in game mode. A boot-time service turns LOBF and PSR/Panel Replay off before the display manager starts. It only applies to the AMS881KB01 panel on BIOS 5.11 or later (--force-panel overrides). Reboot needed.
  • Content-driven HDR (#22). SDR games now keep the panel in SDR and scan out directly instead of being composited into HDR every frame, which cost 6-7 % of the GPU (RE4 at 30 W: about 87 → 93 fps). HDR games switch the panel to HDR as before. Re-run the fix pack and log game mode out and in once.
  • Performance overlay power readings.
    • CPU power is now the CPU cores only (RAPL PP0). Before, it showed the whole package, which already includes the GPU listed next to it, so CPU + GPU looked like more than the TDP.
    • A new SoC item shows the whole-package power, which is what the TDP limits. It appears on overlay levels 2 to 4: after GPU on level 2 (with a separator), after CPU on level 3, and after the per-core list on level 4.
    • The empty VRAM item is gone. The integrated GPU has no memory of its own; the RAM item shows the shared memory.

After a SteamOS update, re-run the fix pack and reboot once more.

@HHHHanasak1 HHHHanasak1 released this 18 Oct 03:14
  • Optional: SimpleDeckyTDP-Intel (new step 14, contributed by kas5852 in #24). A fork of SimpleDeckyTDP whose CPU Boost control is Off / Smart / Full, saved per game. Smart turns boost on and caps the P / E / LP E-cores at 3.0 / 2.0 / 1.5 GHz, so CPU-heavy games stop stalling without the small cores taking the GPU's power: RE4 at 30 W gained 12 % average fps and 48 % in the 1% lows. GPU-bound games see no difference.
    • A normal run asks once whether to install it (--sdtdp / --no-sdtdp change the answer). Nothing is installed unless you say yes.
    • If the original SimpleDeckyTDP is installed, the question says that installing replaces it, and it is removed only after a yes. Your profiles are copied, and the original's settings file stays.
    • The plugin zip comes with this release (sha256 pinned). Later updates come from the fork through the plugin's own updater.
    • Smart needs "Enable Manual CPU Controls" in the plugin's advanced options.
  • README reviewed: outdated and duplicated parts removed or corrected.

After a SteamOS update, re-run the fix pack and reboot once more.
