Keepfin v1.0.2
Keepfin v1.0.2
Google Drive sign-in works on Windows. In 1.0.1 Google answered "Error 400: invalid_request" and the copy could not be added.
Windows
- Google Drive signs in. Settings › Storage & copies › Add a copy › A cloud account › Google Drive opens Google's sign-in and finishes in Keepfin.
- A sign-in that never finished no longer blocks the next one. If the browser showed an error, or the window was closed, choosing the account again starts a fresh sign-in instead of "A sign-in is already open".
Update notes
- Install over 1.0.1 or any earlier version, on Windows and Android. Your library, history, settings and files carry over.
- On Android nothing changes except the version number; Google Drive there already signed in through the phone.
Keepfin v1.0.1
Keepfin v1.0.1
Google Drive and Dropbox copies work in this version. Keepfin 1.0.0 showed both as "Not available in this build".
Both apps
- Google Drive and Dropbox are available. In Settings › Storage & copies you can now add a copy on Google Drive or Dropbox: sign in, and Keepfin keeps a copy of your library there. OneDrive is planned for a later version.
Windows
- Instagram photo posts explain what they need. Instagram now shows photo posts only to people who are signed in. Keepfin says so ("Sign-in required") instead of "No downloadable formats"; use your browser's sign-in in Settings › Downloads and try the link again.
- Pressing Esc twice quickly while the player opens or closes no longer leaves an error behind.
Update notes
- Install over 1.0.0 or any earlier version, on Windows and Android. Your library, history, settings and files carry over.
Keepfin v1.0.0
Keepfin v1.0.0
Keepfin 1.0 keeps everything you save in one place you own, the Keepfin folder, and lets your PC and your phone share it: copies on a drive or in the cloud, devices that sync and play from each other, and downloads you can send from one device to another. Install it over 0.5.0 or any later version; the first start moves your existing library into the new folder and keeps everything.
Keepfin also has a new home: github.com/HishamSanjag/keepfin, where the source, the downloads and the updates now live. From 1.0 both apps update from there.
Both apps
- Your Keepfin folder. Your music, videos, photos, playlists and history live in one folder you choose. The first start asks whether you are new or bringing a Keepfin folder, and moves an existing library across safely. Library details are kept in a hidden
.keepfinfolder inside it. - Copies. Keep a copy of your library on another folder, an SD card, a USB drive, a paired device or a cloud account. Choose what to keep and how: a backup that keeps earlier versions, a two-way copy that brings changes back, or a mirror. Needs review, Restore and Clean up help when something needs your decision. Folder copies can also export playlists, a flat folder and MP3 versions.
- Cloud accounts. Google Drive, Dropbox and WebDAV (OneDrive is planned for a later version). Keepfin keeps its copy in its own folder in your account and never asks for more than it needs.
- Devices on your network. Pair your PC and your phone once with a six-digit check (or a QR code). Paired devices sync your library, play songs and videos from each other without saving them first, keep a copy of your library, and can send a download to each other with "Download on…". Nothing is shared until you allow it, device by device.
- Away from home. Add a device by its address or Tailscale name; Keepfin keeps trying in the background and shows when it was last reachable.
- Finding devices. Devices find each other even when your router blocks device discovery: while Devices is open, Keepfin also asks the other devices on your network directly, and shows them under Nearby with a Pair button.
- Tailscale. With Tailscale on both devices, Keepfin finds the other device through it (shown as "via Tailscale"), pairs with it, and reconnects paired devices wherever they are. Keepfin keeps the addresses a device tells it, so a device that moved is found again.
- Settings, reorganised. Nine categories with the same names and order on both apps: Downloads, Library & playback, Storage & copies, Devices, Appearance, Notifications, Help, Support Keepfin and About Keepfin. Search finds any setting, and a short "Needs your attention" list at the top points to anything that needs fixing.
- Setup you can see. The first start and the move of an existing library show what a Keepfin folder holds, where your files go and how much space they need, step by step.
- Devices that explain themselves. "How devices work" on the Devices page says what finds what, what pairing does, what syncs by itself and what stays on each device. Every paired device shows when the library last synced with it.
- Pairing that guides you. The device you start pairing from waits until the other one is open to pairing (Devices, then Pair or Add by address or code), and a pairing request shows up wherever you are in the app.
- A calmer, more compact look. Every page is built the same way: the same bar at the top, the title in the same place, one row of controls. One place to search, and the accent colour only on things you can press.
- Undo for everything in the library. Moving, renaming, tags, favorites, playlists, removing a space, deleting a file and clearing download history all show a notice with Undo, which reverses only that change. Notices close by themselves.
- Trash. Files you delete from the Keepfin folder wait in Trash for 30 days. The Trash page shows how long each one has left, and brings files back with their tags, favorite, plays and playlist places, even after a restart. Delete for good skips the trash; Undo still works until its notice closes.
- Favorites is a space of its own, gathering what you added to your favorites from every space.
- One kind at a time. Spaces that hold videos, audio and photos together show a chip for each kind.
- Name your devices. Rename a device in Settings → Devices, and your other devices learn the new name at once. Combine libraries now says clearly when the other device hasn't shared its library yet, and what to do on it.
- Help and Support are now separate, and the guide in Help covers everything new.
- Playlists. Your own lists are called playlists on both apps; Collections still gathers playlists, albums and channels. Clear upcoming empties the queue after the current song and keeps it playing.
- A new logo. Keepfin's new logo is the Ink Tide shark rising from a wave, on the app icon, the installer, About and the first start. Settings → Appearance → App icon still lets you choose the earlier icons instead.
- A start screen with the logo. Both apps open on the Keepfin logo and name instead of a blurry icon or an empty window.
- Songs and their videos. YouTube Music links are audio by default and YouTube links are video; you can keep both. A song and its video stay on the same second when you switch. The video has its own row, plays on its own and can be deleted while the song stays. Downloading the video of a song you already have adds it to that song.
- Lyrics. New songs get their timed lyrics again: Keepfin asks again when the lyrics service is busy, prefers timed lyrics over plain words, and says so when a song only has plain words. Find lyrics looks again for a song that has none.
- A clearer download preview. A pasted link opens one window (a full-height sheet on the phone) with Video, Audio or Both, every size in one list with its format always visible, and Extras (subtitles, cut, chapters) on a tab of its own. Keep in sync stays on the main page for playlists you follow. Add to playlist puts the download straight into one of your playlists.
- One kind of row in Downloads. A video in a playlist looks like any other download, with its picture, length, details, Play and menu. A playlist is one row that opens with its arrow; it starts closed once everything is saved.
- The right pictures. Saved videos show their own cover instead of a scene from the video, also in playlists.
- Same choices on both apps. MP3 starts at 320 kbps for a song, a playlist or several links. WebM is offered only for videos that can be saved as WebM. The size shown before downloading is the size the download shows afterwards.
- Continue watching says "0:11 left" when less than a minute is left.
Windows
- Settings → Storage & copies shows your Keepfin folder and its copies; Settings → Devices pairs and manages devices.
- Windows Firewall: an install for all users allows Keepfin on every network, including the Public one Windows gives a new network. If Windows still blocks other devices (a per-user install, or a dismissed prompt), Devices shows "Allow Keepfin", which fixes it with one Windows prompt.
- File names in Arabic, other scripts and with emoji are kept exactly. Downloads saved under a damaged name by earlier versions are found again and open normally.
- After the move into the Keepfin folder, Downloads opens and shows every finished download in its new place (the history used to keep pointing at the old folders).
- Downloads is more compact: one short line under the link field, and an open album or playlist shows a small cover with its songs below.
- The player: the line being sung stands out, the lyrics header stays in place, and going to another page closes the lyrics. The whole bar at the bottom opens the player and has the same ⋯ menu as a song. Scrolling down shrinks the full player again.
- Buttons on cards sit on their own background, readable on any artwork. The collapsed sidebar opens from the logo, smoothly.
- Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+K or / to search, Ctrl+, for Settings, Space to play or pause, Esc to close. The list is in About & help.
- The theme follows Windows unless you choose one in Settings → Appearance.
- The installer is sharp on high-resolution screens.
- Songs and videos that are on another device are listed with "On " and play from it.
- The app icon setting changes the window, the taskbar and Keepfin's Start menu and desktop shortcuts.
- The player has an equalizer with ten presets and bass boost, like the phone, and video subtitles have a size.
- The mouse back and forward buttons (and Alt+Left/Alt+Right) go back to where a page was scrolled, and pages with a path at the top have a back arrow. The sidebar has a Support button next to the version.
- Updates install by themselves: Restart and update closes Keepfin, updates it without any installer pages and opens it again.
- A Windows MSI is available for IT and managed installs; it is updated by installing the next MSI.
- In the Downloads grid, a playlist opens in a window over the grid with all its items, Retry failed and the folder.
- A video frame you save goes to your downloads folder; Copy image in its notice puts it on the clipboard. While a video plays, notices show at the top so they never cover its controls, and an open menu is always above notices.
Android
- Links open faster: the download engine keeps what it learned about YouTube between links.
- Sharing a link to Keepfin no longer closes the app on some Android 15 phones.
- Scrolling back to the top of a list quickly no longer sends the rows off the screen.
- Downloads → All lists every saved download, newest first, instead of three and a "See all" button.
- The Download button stays on screen when a video's preview opens at half height.
- The Keepfin folder is now part of setup on the phone too, as ...
Keepfin v1.0.0-beta.1
Keepfin v1.0.0-beta.1
The first test version of Keepfin 1.0. It keeps everything you save in one place you own, the Keepfin folder, and lets your PC and your phone share it: copies on a drive or in the cloud, devices that sync and play from each other, and downloads you can send from one device to another. Install it over 0.5.5; the first start moves your existing library into the new folder and keeps everything. This is a beta: please report anything that does not work as described.

Keepfin v0.5.0
Keepfin is now a library and a player too. Everything you save gets a home, playlists can stay in sync on their own, and you can watch and listen without leaving the app.
Your library
- Spaces keep your media organised: Music, Videos and Downloads to start, plus any space you create, such as "Watch later". Each space has its own folder, subfolders, file names, color and icon.
- Save to sits next to every Download button. Links from YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer go to Music, and everything else goes to Downloads. In any space, + Add › From a link downloads straight into it.
- Collections. Every playlist, album or channel you download stays together in its original order. Play one collection or the whole space, and move or copy it to another space. Your own playlists live here too.
- Tags and smart spaces. Tags come from the source site, and you can add your own. A smart space gathers items from everywhere by rules (tags, collections, source, artist, kind or date added) without moving any files.
- Library home with Continue watching, Recently added, Recently played and Favorites. Browse music by songs, albums, artists and playlists; videos show as posters with progress bars; photos open full screen. Search, sort, filter, grid or list, and select several items to move or delete.
- Songs you already have are not downloaded twice. Playlists mark them "Already in Music" before you download.
- Add files brings songs and videos you already have into a space. The library only shows what Keepfin saved or what you add, never your whole drive or phone.
- Edit info fixes a title, artist, album or cover. Rename and move files between spaces safely.
- Turn the library off in Settings › Library to go back to the plain downloader. Nothing on disk changes.
Keep playlists in sync
- Turn on Keep in sync when you download a playlist or channel, and Keepfin checks it on a schedule you pick and downloads only the new items. Songs you deleted or removed are never downloaded again, and big batches wait for you to review them.
- Check now tells you what it found ("Found 3 new songs in Gym Mix"), and the collection shows the new songs downloading.
A player that feels alive
- Music: a player bar on every tab that grows into the full player as one surface, a queue you can reorder, shuffle and repeat, favorites and playlists, a sleep timer, playback speed, even volume between songs, and media keys and lock-screen controls.
- Lyrics are looked up on LRCLIB, a free lyrics library, when a song finishes downloading and saved with it. Timed lyrics glide along in the player. On by default: Settings › Downloads › Add lyrics to songs.
- Video: resume where you left off, chapters and subtitles, speed and audio track choice, picture-in-picture and fullscreen, A-B loop and Up next.
- Play and pause change shape smoothly, the playing song shows moving bars, and the seek bar grows under your finger with the time. Everything is instant when your system's reduce-motion setting is on.
Activity and help
- Activity. A bell at the top shows what Keepfin did for you: new songs from synced playlists, finished playlists, failed downloads, updates and sign-ins that need attention. Opening an entry marks it read. Come back after a few days and a short notice tells you what happened.
- Features & how-to. Every feature with the steps to use it, searchable, with "Try it" to jump there.
- Updates are easy to spot: a short popup when a new version is out (Update now, Later or Skip) and an Update channel choice of Stable or Beta in Settings › Updates.
Faster, calmer downloads
- Playlists download as many songs at once as your Parallel downloads setting allows. If YouTube starts limiting your network, Keepfin drops to two at a time for 30 minutes, then goes back. On Android the setting now starts at 3.
- Failed songs in a playlist download each have Remove, and the playlist has Retry failed and Remove failed. Saved files are never touched.
- One "Saved" notice when a batch finishes instead of one per song, and finished downloads stay under the Finished filter in Downloads.
Windows
- Video player keyboard shortcuts, picture adjustments, aspect and crop modes, frame screenshots and a choice of audio output device.
- Crossfade between songs, up to 12 seconds.
- MKV videos that Windows can play are prepared once, losslessly, and then play in Keepfin.
- Drag files onto a space to add them, drag items out to other apps, and export playlists as M3U8.
Android
- Music keeps playing in the background with notification, lock screen, headset and Android Auto controls, and resumes after a restart. Tapping the media card opens the player.
- Swipe the cover or mini player for the next or previous song, as many times in a row as you like, with shuffle on or off. Swiping right goes straight to the previous song, and the start or end of the queue tells you so. Swipe the player down to shrink or close it. The mini player has Previous and close buttons.
- Equalizer with presets and bass boost, and video gestures: double-tap to seek, swipe for brightness and volume.
- Settings are grouped into sections, each with its own page.
- "Find my earlier Keepfin files" brings back files saved before a reinstall.
Update notes
- Your history, settings and files carry over from 0.4.2. Your current download folder becomes the Downloads space.
- Coming from beta 4: swiping between songs no longer stops working after a couple of swipes (especially with shuffle on), and Activity entries lose their dot as soon as you open them.
Keepfin v0.4.2
Originally released on 2026-10-09.
Keepfin v0.4.2
Songs that YouTube blocks in your region now download anyway.
Both platforms
- Some YouTube Music songs, often "Topic" tracks, are blocked by YouTube for listeners without an account in certain regions, even though they play in the YouTube Music app. Keepfin now recognises this and saves the same song from another upload of it, with the original title, artist and album cover. The download shows "Saved from another upload of this song".
- Pasting a link to one of these songs works too: the review shows the original song and downloads it from another upload.
- When no other copy exists, the download fails at once with a clear explanation and the option to sign in to YouTube, instead of retrying three times with "Retrying may help".
Update notes
- Your history, settings and files carry over from 0.4.1.
Keepfin v0.4.1
Originally released on 2026-10-09.
Keepfin v0.4.1
Playlists now stay together, failed downloads retry on their own, and music gets proper album covers.
Both platforms
- Playlists, albums and channels can be kept together: one entry in Downloads and Library with the source link, overall progress such as "8 of 12 done", and actions for the whole set. Choose Separate items before downloading to keep the old behaviour.
- Downloads that fail for temporary reasons retry automatically up to three times, and the row shows the countdown. A download waiting to retry never holds up the others. If the download engine looks like the cause, Keepfin updates it before retrying.
- When YouTube limits downloads from your network, Keepfin says so, waits longer between retries and slows down the playlist instead of failing song after song.
- Error messages are more accurate: "removed" only appears when the site says the media was removed, and failed downloads have Error details with a copy button.
- YouTube Music links default to audio, with a setting to prefer video.
- Music gets square album covers. Songs from Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer links get the original album art as well as the original title, artist and album.
- One notification per playlist when it finishes, for example "11 of 12 saved, 1 failed", and downloads that finish together share one notification.
- Opening a download from a notification jumps to it once and then leaves scrolling to you.
- Settings has one Updates page: Keepfin itself, and the download engine, which updates automatically.
Windows
- The download engine's version no longer sits in the sidebar; it only appears when it needs attention.
Android
- Downloads keep running at full speed in the background and with the screen off, and the progress notification appears as soon as a download starts.
- New empty screens for Downloads, Library and searches with no results.
- Notifications show the Keepfin icon.
Update notes
- Playlist artwork now also appears for personal YouTube Music playlists that don't include it.
- Your history, settings and files carry over from 0.4.0.
Keepfin v0.4.0
Originally released on 2026-10-08.
Keepfin v0.4.0
Keepfin: a new download engine and a redesigned interface on Windows and Android.
Both platforms
- New self-updating download engine, kept current automatically, with a stable or nightly channel and a manual update button in Settings.
- A real format picker lists resolution, frame rate, HDR and codec, with an estimated size that includes the audio track.
- Audio downloads as MP3, M4A, Opus, FLAC or WAV, with cover art and tags.
- Parallel downloads, with pause and resume.
- Playlists, channels, albums and mixes load progressively in pages, with selection and Load more. YouTube Music playlists no longer load forever.
- Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer links are matched to recordings on YouTube Music and tagged with the original metadata. No audio comes from those services, and a match may not always be the exact recording.
- Private and age-restricted content works through sign-in or cookies.
- Subtitles, SponsorBlock, chapters and trim options.
- Friendlier error messages with suggested fixes.
- An app-update indicator in the header, and What's new after updating.
- Redesigned interface.
- A Support page, if you would like to back Keepfin's development.
Windows
- YouTube JavaScript challenges are solved with the app's built-in runtime, so full format lists are available.
- Image posts and galleries download through the built-in gallery engine.
- Use cookies from Firefox or other browsers. Firefox is the most reliable; Chromium-based browsers can lock or encrypt their cookies on Windows.
- Proxy and speed-limit settings.
- Optional Turbo transfer, off by default.
- Drag and drop links, or paste with Ctrl+V, to capture them.
- A verified engine is bundled in the installer, so the first run works without downloading tools.
Android
- Rebuilt with Jetpack Compose and Material 3, including dynamic color.
- Smoother progress: download rows update individually, with no list refreshes or thumbnail flicker.
- In-app sign-in for YouTube, Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok and more.
- Sizes are shown on every quality.
- Optional multi-connection transfers, off by default.
- A Wi-Fi only option.
Update notes
- Provider behavior, sign-in requirements and speeds can still vary by site and change over time. The built-in engine updater helps keep downloads working.
