Hi everyone!
v0.1.6 is out (release). Three things in this one: the commentators can now say new player names, the PC version gets the optimizations that took the Switch port to 60 fps, and there are lighter graphics options for modest PCs and the Steam Deck.
New player names (callnames)
The game only knows the names its commentators recorded in 2008. Now a mod can add new ones: Acuña Jr., Chourio, Ohtani, Yamamoto, anyone.
How it works (technical): the game keeps every spoken phrase in
sound/voiceN.binbanks (a header, then DSP-ADPCM mono at 22,050 Hz per phrase, and an index of sectors and lengths at the end). A player's name is a phrase id computed from the player's voice number through hard-coded ranges: bank 14 for the normal name, 15 for the excited one, 17 for the full name. Voice numbers 7223–10239 land in gaps of those ranges, so the runtime builds the banks again at startup with the new phrases appended (encoded to DSP-ADPCM and cached), serves them as virtual disc files, and teaches the game's range checks and its voice-list readers (env_voice_data.pack) about the new ids. Every replaced function was compared against the original running in a PowerPC interpreter for all inputs. The full write-up is in docs/en/reverse-engineering.md.Switch optimizations on PC
Getting the Switch to 60 fps meant making the game's own work cheaper, and most of that work also runs on PC:
On the test PC (Ryzen 5 5500 + RX 5500) the game thread now does 13% less work per frame (6.16 → 5.38 ms, four paired 60-second runs). The game already ran at 60 fps there, so the fps counter does not move; the room it frees is for modest CPUs and the Steam Deck. Splitting the work across more cores (as on Switch) was left out on purpose: PC does not need it.
Lighter graphics options
SETTINGS > VIDEO: PLAYER SHADOWS (full, simple, off), CROWD (full, less, off), PLAY CAMERA (100% down to 60%) and REFLECTIONS (on/off). Everything stays as the original game by default. All of them on the lightest setting cut the game thread from about 5 ms to 4.4 ms per frame.

All reactions
