v0.1.6 beta — New player names (callnames), Switch optimizations on PC, lighter graphics
LatestBeta. Expect bugs. Windows 10/11 x64 (Linux and Steam Deck: build it yourself, see below).
🎬 Screenshots and the technical story (how the game's voice banks and name lists work, and which Switch optimizations paid off on PC) are in the v0.1.6 discussion.
What's new
New player names for the commentators (callnames, experimental)
Players the game never knew (Acuña Jr., Chourio, Ohtani, Yamamoto…) can now have their name called in the booth.
- A callname mod adds up to three recordings per name: the main commentator saying the name, the same name excited, and the color commentator saying the full name. Missing variants use the normal one.
- Bring your own audio: WAV or MP3, up to 5 seconds. Nothing of the game's audio is involved; use recordings you made or are allowed to use.
- SETTINGS > TOOLS > CALLNAME EDITOR creates them without writing files by hand: pick or create a mod, Add, type the name as the game will list it (it shows how it will look), choose the audio files, Listen, Save. Voice numbers (7223–10239, about 3,000 free slots) are picked for you.
- New names show up in the game's own editor (Arrange › VOICE SETUP › Select Type) and in PowerUp+ (MODS › EDIT ROSTER) as Callname , so you can give them to any player.
See docs/en/callname-studio.md and the Callnames section of docs/en/mods.md.
Faster on the CPU: Switch optimizations brought to PC
The work that took the Nintendo Switch port to 60 fps now runs on PC too: native versions of the game's helmet and bat reflection math, per-mesh light colors, reverb and math routines (each one checked to give exactly the same result as the original), a faster translator output, faster graphics command handling and faster mipmap creation.
On the test PC (Ryzen 5 5500) the game thread does 13% less work per frame (6.16 → 5.38 ms) and the worst frames are a little steadier. Frame rate stays at 60 fps (it was already there); the gain is headroom for modest PCs and the Steam Deck.
Lighter graphics options (SETTINGS > VIDEO, experimental)
- PLAYER SHADOWS: Full (original), Simple (a round patch under each player) or Off.
- CROWD: Full (original), Less or Off.
- PLAY CAMERA: field of view of the camera that follows the ball after it is hit, 100% (original) down to 60%. At low values a fielder can end up near the edge of the picture.
- REFLECTIONS: the shine on helmets and the bat, Full (original) or Off.
All of them are as the original game by default and only change how the game looks, never how it plays.
Fixed
- MLB Life, creating a two-way player (Pitcher + second position, Ohtani rule on): he now stays a pitcher after creation, and you also pick two batting advantages and one batting disadvantage after the pitching ones (B goes back). Both sets are applied to the new player.
- Windows Defender: the Setup and the launcher no longer start programs in a way antivirus heuristics flag, and the Setup now carries version information. One player's Defender had quarantined the v0.1.5 Setup during an update.
Install / update
- Download
MLB-Power-Pros-2008-Setup-v0.1.6.zipand unzip it into a folder of yours (not Program Files). - Open
MLBPowerPros2008-Setup.exe, press CHOOSE DISC and pick your copy (ISO, NKit, RVZ, WBFS, WIA, GCZ or CISO). - Press INSTALL (about 4–5 minutes on a 12-thread CPU), then PLAY.
Coming from an older version? After installing, copy UserData\NAND and UserData\ModSaves (your saves) and the mods folder from the old MLB Power Pros 2008\Game folder into the new one, then delete the old install.
Linux / Steam Deck: download the kit for your system and run its installer; it compiles the game from your own copy (see docs/en/linux.md). The Blender stadium add-on is unchanged (powerpros_stadium-0.8.2.zip, attached again).
Known issues
- Callnames are new and experimental: tested in Exhibition matches; MLB Life uses the same commentary code but has not been checked by ear yet. Names in the game's list are up to 15 characters, without accents.
- Linux / Steam Deck: the Callname Editor is Windows only for now; on Linux write
callnames/callnames.tomlby hand (see docs/en/mods.md) or make the mod on Windows and copy it. - Tested mainly on one PC (Ryzen 5 5500 + Radeon RX 5500).
- New stadiums appear only in Exhibition.
- The game can occasionally hang at startup: close it and open it again.
If something goes wrong, please open an issue with your CPU, GPU and UserData\Logs\<latest>\console.log; for MLB Life or Season, your save helps a lot.

Instalar o actualizar: descarga MLB-Power-Pros-2008-Setup-v0.1.6.zip, descomprímelo, abre MLBPowerPros2008-Setup.exe, elige tu disco y pulsa INSTALAR.
