Fovea 0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@dciobanu dciobanu released this 07 Nov 16:43

Fovea 0.2.0 "Things come back". The pill still holds the one thing you are doing; now everything you capture has a way back.

Nothing is only in a place you must remember to check

  • Parked thoughts, agent proposals, Later items, promises and carry-overs come back on the card at your own transitions: when a break starts, when you finish something, and once at the end of the day. One item at a time, never a list, never a count.
  • The panel is one list: Waiting on you, Came back, Today. The Horizon and Streams tabs are gone (fovea horizon, fovea streams keep them for the terminal).
  • Keys on the card: ⌃⌥→ takes the action, ⌃⌥↓ takes the stated default, ⌃⌥← the third choice. Rebind them in Settings → Hotkeys. Every prompt has a default that runs if you ignore it.

Transitions are sensed as well as declared

  • Fovea notices idle, wake, unlock and the end of a calendar event (calendar only if you turn it on in Settings → Day; it reads only when events end, nothing else).
  • When you come back after being away, the card shows where you were and offers to bring your apps back. Two minutes before an event the pill reads Event soon; nothing opens.
  • The free-running timer is the default; the pomodoro is a setting. The hyperfocus halo works on real activity, with or without a timer, and states a fact once; it never tells you to take a break.

The day has an end and a beginning

  • At the first transition after your day-end time (15:50 by default) the card asks one thing: first thing tomorrow? Unfinished work carries over without a marker. In the morning the pill shows that first thing with a two-minute start.

Agents, under a contract

  • An agent's question carries a why, up to three options and a default; one open question per agent session; unanswered questions proceed with their default. Agents can wait for your answer (fovea_wait_for_answer), take a hand-off (fovea_wait_for_work) and report back; results come back at your next transition as Back from <Agent>.
  • 0.1 agents keep working: a question without a default gets Later for one release.

Promises, waiting-fors, and letting go

  • After a meeting the card asks once: anything you promised, or are waiting on? Promises come back until closed; waiting-fors return after three working days.
  • Let go puts an item on the shelf with a short undo; the shelf is searchable and never counted. Passed-over items are asked Keep “…”? once at day end, then rest.

Your first day

  • Fovea turns on launch at login the first time you open 0.2 and explains it once in Settings → General; the calendar is used only if you turn it on in Settings → Day.
  • Week one is your baseline: fovea tally <code> [bucket] records a gap you noticed (rh, pl, msg f/msg w, am, ag, nt); fovea stats --tally reads them back. Counts first, minutes second.

Also

  • fovea now is one line; fovea back, fovea first, fovea under, fovea promise, fovea shelf, fovea stats --measures; plain fovea stats and fovea tally are unchanged for the baseline.
  • Scripts: human output no longer prints inbox/parked/awaiting counts (JSON unchanged); protocol v2 (v1 still answered for one release).

Fovea 0.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@dciobanu dciobanu released this 07 Nov 10:47

Fovea 0.1.2 adds the tally instrument for the baseline week.

  • fovea tally <code> [f|w] [bucket] records one tally: rh went down a rabbit hole, pl a promise slipped, msg f / msg w a message or action forgotten at home or at work, am the morning took a while to start, ag agent sprawl, nt worked into the night. Buckets 15, 30, 60, 120, half-day; leaving the bucket out records no time, never a zero. --at 14:30 back-dates within the day.
  • fovea stats --tally [--days N] reads them back: counts first, minutes second, per day. The default fovea stats output is unchanged.
  • Tallies are yours only: agents can read them over MCP, never record them. Nothing about them appears on the pill.

Fovea 0.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@dciobanu dciobanu released this 07 Nov 10:27

Fovea 0.1.1 closes the loop between you and your agents and tidies what the first alpha reviews found.

Agents

  • Agents can now wait for your answer: fovea_ask_user followed by fovea_wait_for_answer (MCP), or fovea ask … --as <agent> --wait (CLI). Questions on your current task attach to it without stopping the timer; you answer from the pill's Inbox.
  • Answers live in their own log on the task; your note stays yours. Agents cannot edit a task while it is your Now or Next, but they can ask about any task.
  • fovea install-mcp claude-desktop adds Fovea to Claude Desktop (your config is backed up first).
  • Streams and Inbox rows show a readable session label (the repo or conversation name) instead of an id, and one agent is one agent however its name is spelled.

The pill

  • Messages that quote a task title keep their actionable sentence; the empty card is just the headline and + Add one; the energy toggle is hidden until it changes something.
  • When you start a task with Today full, the header says so honestly: 5 of 4 · one will carry over.

CLI

  • fovea now is one line (--long for the full block); fovea stats [--days N] reports transition gaps, break overruns, recovery time, hyperfocus stretches and ask→answer latency, locally.
  • Remaining copy aligned with the product voice.

Under the hood

  • CI enforces the memory budget on physical footprint (Fovea's own ~19 MB) rather than RSS.

Install: brew install --cask dciobanu/tap/fovea (Homebrew 7 may ask you to brew trust dciobanu/tap once), or the DMG. Existing installs update through Sparkle. macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel. Signed by IDv4, Inc. and notarized by Apple; verify downloads with SHA256SUMS.txt.

Fovea 0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@dciobanu dciobanu released this 07 Nov 08:55

Fovea 0.1.0 is the first alpha: a small pill that stays on your Mac screen and holds exactly one thing, what you are doing right now.

What is in it

  • The pill, the card and the panel: one current task, a quietly pre-chosen Next, the Today queue with a WIP limit, Inbox, Streams and Horizon. The pill never takes keyboard focus except while you type into it.
  • Two-minute start, soft-edged pomodoro and free-running timers, "Finish the thought (+5 min)", a visible break countdown, and a staged hyperfocus guard.
  • Park a thought (⌥P), Where was I (⌥W), Interrupt and Resume.
  • Agents propose, you decide: the fovea CLI and fovea mcp (an MCP server for Claude Code, Codex and any MCP client) let agents add tasks to your Inbox, ask you questions and park thoughts. They can never set what is Now.
  • Local only: SQLite in ~/Library/Application Support/Fovea, no accounts, no telemetry. The only network traffic is the update check.

Install

brew install --cask dciobanu/tap/fovea, or open the DMG and drag Fovea to Applications. macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel. The CLI lives at Fovea.app/Contents/Helpers/fovea (Homebrew links it; from the DMG use the menu item "Install Command Line Tool…").

Known limits of the alpha

  • Calendar awareness, the morning sheet, the shutdown review and energy-aware Next suggestions are not in yet.
  • Memory sits around 70–85 MB, above our target.
  • Not open source. Free to use during the alpha; terms may change with later releases.
