v0.6.1 | Smaller Packages, Video Recovery & Refreshed SDKs

Choose a tag to compare

@orca-zhang orca-zhang released this 03 Nov 14:04

FiLens v0.6.1 includes CLI 0.5.1, Browser Preview 0.3.1 and mobile source SDKs 0.1.1. The CLI bundles include the current offline preview runtime; file parsing and conversion share the frontend WASM core.

Changes

  • Preserve video position, play/pause state, volume, mute and playback speed when optional browser recovery switches from native playback to MSE. This adopts the useful playback handoff behavior reviewed in share-front without adding runtime dependencies. Bounded Range reads and binary-search keyframe lookup were already present in the shared Media Engine.
  • Improve HEIF color handling, including 10/12-bit and HDR-related metadata paths, and expose optional local MP4/MOV recovery through browserMedia: true. Native playback remains the first attempt.
  • Improve dual-fisheye panorama registration, polar handling and seam visibility, and refresh the CLI file-walker resource.
  • Compact standalone JavaScript while retaining its existing chunk graph. Compress CLI WASM resources at gzip level 9. Replace huge generated iWork literal declarations with interface types; omit debug maps from production module tarballs while retaining local maps.

Each native bundle includes the preview runtime, archive sidecars and Agent skill, and needs no Node.js, npm or Python. Mobile downloads are source SDKs with offline assets, rather than precompiled AAR/XCFramework files. Linux x64/arm64 and Windows x64 bundles were cross-built; native execution was verified on macOS arm64.

Size changes

Compared with the published v0.6.0 artifacts, the preview npm download changes from 6.98 to 7.14 MiB (+2.3%), while installed files decrease from 21.72 to 20.40 MiB (-6.1%). The all-in-one browser ZIP is 3.58 MiB, with 9.00 MiB extracted files (-7.4%). Mobile SDK downloads are 3.59 MiB each, with extracted files down about 5%. Compressed downloads still grow because of the HEIF and optional media additions.

Against the same current source before this optimization review, the preview download is 4.3% smaller, installed files 11.3% smaller, and all-in-one JavaScript 14.5% smaller. The iWork package files (excluding transitive dependencies) shrink from 9.95 to 3.52 MiB installed (-64.6%). CLI Lite/Full installed packages save about 0.19 MiB per platform.

npm availability

filens-cli@0.5.1, filens-cli-lite@0.5.1, filens-preview@0.3.1 and all eight platform components are publicly available. Their registry integrity matches the tested tarballs. Fresh-cache public registry Full/Lite installation, OCR and first-use preview tests passed; the public preview package also passed the complete browser and TypeScript consumer checks. Publication observations.

npm install -g filens-cli@0.5.1
# Or: npm install -g filens-cli-lite@0.5.1
npm install filens-preview@0.3.1
``` The exact tested preview tarball is available directly from this Release:
```sh
npm install https://github.com/IceWhaleTech/filens/releases/download/v0.6.1/filens-preview-0.3.1.tgz

All 18 @filens/*@0.1.0 module uploads have been accepted by npm. Seventeen modules are publicly available with verified integrity; @filens/converter-client@0.1.0 is still being processed by npm. The EPUB/CBZ module is published as @filens/books because npm rejected the original @filens/ebook name. Its driver API is unchanged, and text/Vue dependencies use the published name. Live module publication observations. The existing filens-step@0.1.0-rc.1 is unchanged.

Validation and limits

  • Workspace suites: 1,854 passed, 11 skipped; the additional recovery continuity tests also passed. All 336 iWork and 176 panorama tests passed. CLI Rust tests: 16 passed.
  • All 18 module tarballs installed together outside the workspace and passed strict public declaration checks. Required Three.js type dependencies are included for 3D and panorama consumers.
  • Final preview tarball: isolated installation, public TypeScript imports, 48 real browser previews, HEIF reference-pixel checks and both exports after production Vite bundling passed.
  • Final mobile runtime and bridges: 22 Chromium/WebKit checks passed. Final CLI npm Full/Lite offline installation, native OCR, conversion and first-use preview passed.
  • Real Chromium media checks cover native playback, native-to-MSE continuity for paused/playing sessions, bounded Range reads, paused seeking, offline Blob playback and resource cleanup. Release privacy and size gates passed.
  • No new physical-device or full native mobile SDK build validation was performed for this patch. Format fidelity and codec/device support follow the support matrix.

SDK ZIPs include the complete offline split runtime and platform source. They are source SDKs, not precompiled AAR / XCFramework files.

Browser and npm integration

The registry accepted filens-preview@0.3.0 with HTTP 202 and is still processing
the upload. Until it becomes publicly available, install the exact tested tarball
directly from this Release:

npm install https://github.com/IceWhaleTech/filens/releases/download/v0.6.0/filens-preview-0.3.0.tgz

After npm processing completes, the versioned registry command is:

npm install filens-preview@0.3.0

Extract a browser ZIP and deploy the complete directory over HTTP(S), then open index.html to choose a local file. Applications can import createPreview from filens.js. Both builds now keep the optional archive engine and its worker as external files; retain archive/7zz.wasm and the worker under assets/ for RAR, 7z and multipart ZIP.

Preview API · Supported formats.

iOS and Android

  • iOS 15+ / Swift 5.9+: extract the iOS ZIP, add sdk/ios as a local Swift Package and link FilensPreview. The package includes its offline runtime. Configure the local-network ATS setting documented in the integration guide.
  • Android 8+ / API 26+: extract the Android ZIP and include sdk/android/filens-preview as an Android Library. JDK 17+, Gradle 8.9, Android SDK 35 and a current Android System WebView are required. The module can build an AAR; standalone AAR consumers also need AndroidX WebKit 1.12.1.
  • Both hosts provide local file opening, language / toolbar options, render and error callbacks, source replacement and cleanup. iOS accepts local / security-scoped file URLs; Android accepts readable content:// and file:// URIs.

SDK integration guide (Chinese).

Changes since v0.5.0

  • Added the iOS and Android source preview SDKs with bundled offline resources and native lifecycle / message bridges.
  • Added RAR / RAR5 and 7z previews, encrypted and solid archives, multipart RAR / 7z / ZIP, password retries, missing-volume diagnostics and nested entry previews. The extraction-only archive engine uses pinned 7-Zip source with O3 / LTO and shares compiled code across isolated operation workers.
  • Added embedded Office attachment handling, shared ZIP readers and improved cancellation / nested-preview lifecycle behavior.
  • Gzip-compressed embedded WASM before base64 and removed duplicate ZIP / compression loading from ordinary document paths. Main runtimes, optional archive sidecars and complete package downloads are now measured separately.
  • Added the default translucent FiLens © IceWhale watermark, including preview fullscreen and hidden-toolbar layouts.

Updated runtime sizes

Runtime compression figures below use MB = 1,000,000 bytes. They exclude HTML, types, README and notices; they are separate from the downloadable ZIP/npm sizes above.

Existing CLI and ZimaOS downloads

CLI 0.5.0 and ZimaOS 0.5.1 retain the binaries and embedded Preview 0.2.0 from v0.5.0. This release does not rebuild or relabel those components.

Full CLI, including OCR: macOS arm64 · Linux x64 · Linux arm64 · Windows x64. Lite variants and the ZimaOS image remain available on that release.

To use the new split runtime with an existing CLI, extract its ZIP and pass the directory explicitly:

filens preview report.pdf --mode serve --assets /path/to/filens-preview-0.3.0-split

Validation and limits

  • The npm tarball passed isolated installation, TypeScript consumer checks, 48 real browser previews, native media / HEIF checks, and 12 PDF / iWork / RAW / STEP / HEIF / RAR previews after production Vite bundling. The registry accepted the upload; fresh-cache registry installation remains pending public availability. The Release tarball is the exact locally tested artifact, with its SHA-256 listed below.
  • The mobile page and both native message shapes passed 22 Chromium / WebKit checks. Archive sidecars passed 12 browser checks covering ordinary ZIP, encrypted / solid / multipart archives, nested extraction and missing-volume errors.
  • The iOS host passed 3 Swift loopback HTTP / path / byte-range tests and iOS Simulator arm64 compile checks. Android Java sources passed API 35 / AndroidX WebKit compilation and byte-range checks. Full Gradle AAR builds, simulator app execution and physical-device tests remain pending.
  • These are read-only previews. Complex document fidelity, fonts, codecs, WebGL and device memory remain subject to the shared support matrix. Mobile SDKs currently accept one self-contained source; they do not expose native OCR, search, standalone conversion-result or multipart-file input APIs. Archive multipart support is available through the browser picker / frontend API.

Common use case Download
Use FiLens with an Agent, including OCR Full CLI: macOS arm64 · Linux x64 · Linux arm64 · Windows x64
Add file previews to a website Single-file browser runtime · Split browser runtime

CLI downloads are native offline bundles. Extract and run; no Node.js or Python runtime is required. Both Full and Lite include the WASM engines and browser preview assets. Full also includes OCR libraries and models.

CLI 0.5.0: Full and Lite

Choose Full for documents, scans and images with OCR included. Choose Lite for reading, search, conversion and previews without bundled OCR. To add OCR to a Lite deployment, use the Full archive.

Platform Full, with OCR Lite, without OCR
macOS 12+ · Apple Silicon arm64 23.87 MiB 9.74 MiB
Linux · glibc 2.17+ · x64 26.45 MiB 10.50 MiB
Linux · glibc 2.17+ · arm64 24.14 MiB 10.39 MiB
Windows 10/11 · x64 26.99 MiB 10.62 MiB

Sizes are compressed downloads; 1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes. Keep the extracted directory intact. The executable loads its adjacent WASM and preview resources; Full also uses the included native/ and models/ directories.

On macOS / Linux, open a terminal in the extracted directory:

./filens capacity --json
./filens read report.pdf --json
./filens convert report.doc report.docx
./filens preview report.pdf --output report-preview.html --no-open

On Windows, open PowerShell in the extracted directory:

.\filens.exe capacity --json
.\filens.exe read report.pdf --json
.\filens.exe preview report.pdf --output report-preview.html --no-open

Open the generated HTML in a browser. It includes the source file and preview engine, so it can be viewed offline. HTML export also works on a headless machine. Existing output files are not overwritten. The CLI also provides --mode serve for loopback HTTP compatibility.

Platform validation: macOS arm64 has passed native execution tests. Linux and Windows binaries were cross-built and statically checked; native execution on those systems remains pending. Intel Mac, Windows ARM64 and Linux musl builds are not included.

Browser Preview 0.2.0

Build Download Use it when
All-in-one filens-preview-0.2.0-all-in-one.zip · 3.83 MiB You want one JavaScript runtime containing Vue, CSS, workers and WASM
Split filens-preview-0.2.0-split.zip · 3.20 MiB You want format modules, workers and WASM to load as needed

Extract and deploy to an HTTP(S) static web server, then open index.html to choose a local file. Both builds have the same API and supported formats. The split build needs its complete directory structure. Retain the accompanying licenses and third-party notices when distributing either build.

For application integration, import createPreview from the supplied filens.js. Browser runtime modules use HTTP(S); the CLI's exported HTML supports direct file: viewing. Preview API.

ZimaOS 0.5.1

Download filens-zimaos-0.5.1.raw · 12.03 MiB.

This ZimaOS module image contains CLI 0.5.0, Preview 0.2.0 and Linux x64 / arm64 resources. Install it with the ZimaOS module manager. Preview exports HTML without launching a browser; download or copy the HTML to your computer to view it. Offline OCR requires compatible Photos OCR libraries and models already installed on the device. ZimaOS guide.

First release scope

This first GitHub Release covers the work from September 20 through November 1, 2026 (Asia/Shanghai), at source commit daf83d8. Component versions are CLI 0.5.0, Browser Preview 0.2.0 and ZimaOS 0.5.1.

FiLens provides local file reading, search, OCR, conversion and previews for Agents and applications. Parsing and conversion reuse the frontend Rust / WebAssembly core; Go backend examples wrap that same core. First-party code is MIT licensed; bundled dependencies retain their own licenses and notices.

Agent CLI

  • Read and extract: supported PDF, Office, spreadsheet, scan and image content, with eight output formats: text, JSON, Markdown, HTML, YAML, XML, CSV and TSV. Preserve available page references, tables, logical structure and layout.
  • Local OCR: RapidOCR NCNN with Chinese/English models for images, scanned PDFs and embedded images in supported documents. Includes EXIF orientation, transparent-image handling and supported PDF ToUnicode mapping repairs. PDF layouts use points; image OCR uses pixels.
  • Search: BM25, exact-text and filename search with original excerpts and provenance. Traverse ZIP / TAR / GZIP containers up to eight nested layers; returned virtual member paths can be read, summarized and inspected for layout.
  • Extractive summaries: summarize / prune select original passages without an LLM, with keyword focus, character budgets, source offsets and completeness markers.
  • Duplicates and similar images: compare file sizes, prefix hashes and full SHA-256 for duplicates; use perceptual hashes to group supported JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and TIFF images for review.
  • Conversion: supported legacy Office / WPS / ODF / text to OpenXML, tabular inputs such as CSV / JSON to XLSX, RAW to JPEG, and ICNS / PPM to PNG. Includes overwrite protection, fidelity warnings and structured errors. Inspect capacity.conversionPairs for exact combinations.
  • Offline previews and Agent integration: self-contained HTML export, loopback HTTP mode, bounded Chinese/English intents and a JSON stdin protocol. CLI 0.5.0 embeds the source file, engines and notices and exits after opening or exporting the HTML.
