Readable default text sizes

New partial scss/befree-gantry/_readable.scss, imported last in befree-gantry.scss. All sizes are rem.

• Body text: 1.125rem (18px) with line-height 1.6.
• Main menu: 1.0625rem (17px); dropdowns 1rem (16px).
• Content-array post details (.g-content-array .g-array-item-details): 90% → 1rem.
• Widget titles: 1.15rem → 1.3rem.
• Sidebar (#g-sidebar, #g-aside) and footer (#g-footer) text: 1.0625rem (17px).
• Post and page content (.entry-content paragraphs, lists, blockquotes): 1.125rem with line-height 1.7.

Backward compatibility

• Headings, charts, iframes and TradingView embeds are unchanged.
• Your site's custom/scss/custom.scss still loads after the theme CSS, so any sizes you set there still override these defaults. Sites that already have their own text-size block look the same.
• No mixed-unit clamp() values, so Gantry's scssphp compiles the theme without errors.
• Layouts, outlines, style presets, the Latest Posts Slider, wide sections and the Sister Site particle are unchanged.

Requirements

• Gantry 5 framework: 5.6.5 recommended, minimum 5.5.

Tested on iw.je

Test setup: Gantry 5.6.5, BeFree Navy (preset3), upgraded in place from 1.2.0 with custom/ kept. The CSS recompiled without errors. The homepage and posts return 200.

Features

• Latest Posts Slider for the free MetaSlider plugin: includes/latest-slider.php, the Latest Posts Slider particle (particles/latest-slider.*) and the [befree_latest_slider] shortcode.
  • The theme keeps one MetaSlider slideshow, BeFree Latest Posts, in sync with the latest 20 published posts that have a featured image, newest first. Each slide uses the featured image, has the post title as its caption and links to the post.
  • The slides rebuild automatically when a post is published, updated, unpublished or deleted, or its featured image changes. Slides you add to that slideshow by hand are kept.
  • It runs edge to edge from 360px phones to 3840px 4K. The image fills the band at 2.4:1 on desktop, capped at 1600px tall, and taller on phones. The caption scales with the screen. Colors use --bf-slideshow-bg and --bf-gold.
• Wide sections (scss/befree-gantry/_wide.scss): add the CSS class bf-wide to a section (gear menu > CSS Classes) and its content sits in a centered 1600px container. It shrinks normally below 1600px. The width is --bf-wide-max.

Filters

• befree_latest_slider_count: number of posts (default 20).
• befree_latest_slider_settings: the MetaSlider settings the theme manages (flex, 1920×800, cropMultiply 2, slide effect, 6s delay, arrows and dots).

Backward compatibility

• Existing layouts and outlines are unchanged. The shipped layout presets don't add the particle, and no section gets bf-wide unless you add it.
• Without MetaSlider active, the particle and the shortcode print nothing.
• The full-width overrides only apply when the Slideshow section contains the slider (#g-slideshow:has(.befree-latest-slider)). Other Slideshow content keeps its padding and container.
• Style presets, the Sister Site particle, the chart and TradingView rules, and the Base-preset inheritance from 1.1.1 are unchanged.
• SCSS clamp() values that mix units are wrapped in unquote(), because Gantry's scssphp can't evaluate mixed units.

Homepage only

To show the slider only on the homepage, put the particle in the Home outline (assigned to the front page) and leave the Base outline's Slideshow empty. Every other page then uses Base with no slider. For a wide story area, add bf-wide to the Home outline's Showcase, Feature, Main container and Subfeature sections.

• Gantry 5 framework: 5.6.5 recommended (includes the CVE-2026-110889 fix), minimum 5.5.
• MetaSlider (free) for the slider. Tested with 3.114.0.

The slides came out newest first. Inner pages and posts use the Base outline with no slider. The main container there stays at 1200px.

BeFree Gantry 1.1.1

BeFree Gantry 1.1.1 makes style presets switch reliably across every page, removes the last Helium traces so BeFree Gantry stands fully on its own, and is checked against Gantry 5.6.5. It is a GPLv3 Gantry 5 theme for WordPress by Intense Finance (https://if.finance).

Install: install and activate the Gantry 5 plugin (5.6.5 recommended), then go to Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme and choose befree-gantry-1.1.1.zip. To update from 1.1.0 or 1.0.0, upload the zip and choose Replace current with uploaded. Outlines already saved in custom/ are not edited.

What's new

• Presets now apply site-wide. The shipped Home outline stores no colors of its own, so every child outline inherits the preset saved on the Base Outline.
• Theme CSS uses the BeFree color variables (--bf-bg, --bf-text, --bf-link, --bf-gold, --bf-navy, --bf-live and the section tokens) instead of colors taken from a single preset, so every preset recolors the whole site.
• Custom CSS saved as > by a filter is decoded back to > before compiling and written back raw.
• The build refuses to package the theme if a child outline carries its own style overrides.
• All Helium references are removed; BeFree Gantry stands on its own. The original Hydrogen copyright lines stay.
• Checked against Gantry 5.6.5, which fixes CVE-2026-110889 (unauthenticated particle AJAX exposing the debug error page, all versions through 5.6.4). Updating the Gantry 5 plugin to 5.6.5 is strongly recommended.
• Unchanged: all six presets (Meld Neon, Industrial, BeFree Navy, Bloom, Lime Terminal, Light Paper), every layout, the Slideshow section, Sister Site, and all stock charts. The theme still never restyles TradingView or chart embeds.

Switching styles

1. Open Gantry 5 > Styles on the Base Outline, pick a preset and save.
2. If a page still shows the old colors, recompile the CSS, then purge the LiteSpeed (or other page) cache.
3. Save custom CSS raw so > is not encoded.
   If a page was given its own Styles colors earlier, clear those overrides so it follows Base.

What's new

• A Slideshow section directly under Navigation and above the page body, following Gantry Helium's pattern. It is in the Default, Left Sidebar, Both Sidebars, Full Width, Magazine Home, Home and Error layouts, uses Fullwidth (Flushed Content), and draws no markup when nothing is assigned.
• Bloom, a light preset in a violet, rose and amber palette. Every checked pair meets WCAG AA (lowest 5.98:1).
• Cyan Night (preset4) is removed and replaced by Bloom. The preset4 id still resolves, so saved outlines keep working. Light Paper is unchanged.
• Theme author is now Intense Finance (https://if.finance) in the WordPress theme header, the Gantry About details and the PHP file headers. The original Hydrogen copyright lines stay.
• Checked against Gantry 5.6.4, the latest official release. The theme templates match Hydrogen 5.6.4 apart from BeFree's own changes.
• Existing particles are untouched, including the homepage hero, sidebars, Sister Site block and the main content where stock charts live. The theme still never restyles TradingView or chart embeds.

Add a MetaSlider slideshow

1. Install and activate the MetaSlider plugin and create a slideshow.
2. Widget option: in Gantry 5 > Layout, drag a Widget Block particle into the Slideshow section and set Block Key to slideshow. Then, in Appearance > Widgets, add the MetaSlider widget to that block.
3. Shortcode option: in Gantry 5 > Layout, drag a Custom HTML particle into the Slideshow section, paste the shortcode MetaSlider gives you (for example [metaslider id="123"]) and turn on Process shortcodes.
4. Save the layout. To keep the slider in the page column instead of edge to edge, open the section's gear menu and choose Fullwidth (Boxed Content). Colors are under Styles > Slideshow.

BeFree Gantry 1.0.0 is the first release: a GPLv3 Gantry 5 theme for WordPress that blends BeFree's dark industrial look with the if.finance neon lime and cyan palette.
