StoryShape 0.1.0 — Mac beta
StoryShape 0.1.0 is the first downloadable Mac beta for writers and storybuilders. When this version was published, Mac source was released under Apache License 2.0. Those grants remain in force. The application works locally without an account or internet for ordinary writing, planning and worldbuilding.
Includes Ideas, planning with nested books/chapters/scenes and word targets, branching plots and starter templates, free-flow note boards, rich-text/continuous drafting, revision snapshots and checklists, World/Wiki with selection-to-lore capture, map images with colored linked pins, import/export and local backup/recovery. The bundled Wonderland project is a public-domain story demo with illustrative planning and lore additions.
Installation: download the DMG, open it, drag StoryShape onto Applications, then launch it from Applications. Start with the demo or a copy and keep independent backups. Save early and often. The final DMG is published only after Developer ID signing, separate Apple notarization, ticket validation and downloaded-install checks.
Beta qualification limits: Apple silicon only. The package targets macOS 14; automated source tests and packaging passed on macOS 15 and 26. The shipping binary is locally exercised on macOS 27.0.1; macOS 14 and full older-OS GUI qualification remain unproven. 16 GB RAM is recommended; an actual 16 GB hardware check was deferred. Full independent writer pilot, actual CJK input-method use and spoken screen-reader task qualification are still open. Signing does not establish complete production qualification.
On macOS 15/26, PDF color emoji render as images and may not be selectable or searchable text. Use DOCX or RTF when exact copyable emoji text matters. Original project text is preserved.

Mac App Store and iPadOS editions are in development. No iPad release date or pricing is announced yet.

Both app and image were accepted by Apple. Quarantined copies pass Gatekeeper as Notarized Developer ID. The signed app opened its bundled demo and retained a local test edit. The public GitHub download was fetched anonymously and matched the final checksum, with ticket and mounted-app validation. This is bounded development-Mac verification, not independent clean-machine qualification.
Distribution archive note: Originally published 2026-10-12; the original signed application files are being rehosted without modification. Historical Apache 2.0 source grants for the versions published under that license remain in effect. Use StoryShape-Feedback for current bug reports and feature requests.
