Jadarit 0.4.2
What's new in 0.4.2
If you installed a licence from the command line on a Debian or Ubuntu install, please upgrade and install it again.
Fixed
jadarit license activateandjadarit license installnow reach the server. On a package install they ignored/etc/jadarit/config.tomland saved the licence under the directory you ran them from. They reported success, and the server stayed on its evaluation licence. Installing a licence from the dashboard was not affected.jadarit doctorandjadarit license statusnow report on the real server, whichever directory you run them from. They no longer leave aconfig.tomlbehind.- A licence installed with
sudocan renew by itself. It now belongs to the service, whichever way it was installed.
Before you upgrade
- Check your licence after upgrading: run
sudo jadarit license status. If it says evaluation and you have bought a licence, install it again withsudo jadarit license activate <licence ID>, thensudo systemctl restart jadarit. Or paste the ID under Licence in the dashboard, which applies at once. license statusanddoctorneedsudoon a package install, because the configuration is only readable by root and the service. Without it they now say so, rather than showing the defaults.- Files left by earlier versions: a
config.tomlordatafolder created where you ran these commands is no longer used, and you can delete it once your licence shows correctly.

Jadarit 0.4.1
What's new in 0.4.1
If you connected an ad server on 0.4.0, please upgrade. This release was tested against Google Ad Manager's own sample ads, and that testing found problems the fixes below resolve.
Fixed
- Ads from real ad servers now play. Ad servers sign their video addresses differently on every response, and 0.4.0 treated each one as a new ad, so it was never ready. Ads are now recognised by their real ID.
- The ad tag is private. On 0.4.0 anyone could read an application's ad tag URL from the public application list. If your tag holds a key or an account ID you consider secret, consider changing it.
- Viewers' playlists now report a break's real length once it ends, as the shared playlist always did.
- The licence label in the sidebar no longer collapses into a green blob, and the watch page header fits a phone.
Clearer ad breaks
- Choose whose ads play. With an ad server connected, each break can use your ad server or Only this ad, for example for a sponsor who paid you directly.
- Breaks end with their ads. A break you start by hand ends when the viewers' ads finish, and the length you enter is a maximum. Nothing starts partway through. Breaks from SCTE-35 markers keep the broadcaster's timing, so a short "we'll be right back" clip makes a good house ad for those.
- Separate lists in the Ads tab: the ads you uploaded, and what your ad server has sent, with whether each is ready and when it last played.
- Viewers who join just before a break starts now get their own ads too.
Also new
ad_cache_daysunder[ssai]: local copies of ads from your ad server are removed after this many days unplayed, 30 by default, so they cannot fill the disk. If the ad server sends one again, it is fetched again. Ads you upload are never removed.- Clearer SRT message and hint when a stream ID has no stream name, and advice on SRT latency over the internet.
Worth knowing
Breaks in a playlist (ads, ad_every) play the playlist's own ads and do not use your ad server.

Jadarit 0.4.0
What's new in 0.4.0
Ads from your ad server, a different ad for every viewer
Connect any VAST ad server (Google Ad Manager, SpringServe, FreeWheel and others) and each viewer gets the ads it chooses for them, with their own address, browser and player details. Impressions, quartiles and completions are reported as each viewer is seen to watch, so the ad server counts real views.
- Works for HLS and WebRTC viewers alike. WebRTC viewers get their ads at sub-second latency, in their own connection.
- With adaptive bitrate on, every rendition gets its own encode of the ad, and a viewer on a small rendition gets a small ad.
- Wrappers, ad pods, the standard VAST macros and error codes are handled. Ad segments are the same files for every viewer of an ad, so a CDN caches them.
- A new ad is prepared once, on first sight, and plays from the next break on; the house ad covers anyone it is not ready for.
- Set it up under Settings, Ads from an ad server in each application. See Ad insertion.
Ad breaks from SCTE-35 markers
Breaks can now start and end on their own from the SCTE-35 markers in an SRT feed, on the frame your playout system marked. Off until you switch it on per application.
Ad breaks announced in the HLS playlist
Every break is marked with #EXT-X-DATERANGE, and every segment is dated with #EXT-X-PROGRAM-DATE-TIME, so players and analytics can tell when an ad is on screen.
Viewer counts
The dashboard shows how many people are watching each stream, over HLS and WebRTC, and the API returns it with every stream.
Server health
The dashboard now shows how the machine is doing: CPU, memory, free disk, network, load, and temperature and clock speed where the hardware reports them, with the last three minutes charted. Also at GET /api/v1/system.
Before you upgrade
- HLS players are now redirected once from
playlist.m3u8to a playlist address of their own. Every common player follows it without changes. If yours cannot, setsessions = falseunder[hls]. - Behind a reverse proxy or CDN? Add its addresses to the new
trusted_proxiessetting under[server], so viewers' real addresses reach your ad server. A proxy on the same machine, including a Cloudflare Tunnel, is trusted already. - Ads from an ad server need a house ad, which plays for viewers the ad server sends nothing to. Upload one before switching it on.
- Breaks you start by hand on an application with an ad server begin 3 seconds after you ask, to give the ad server time to answer.
