Full changelog: v2.0.0...v2.0.1

v2.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@JanVranka05 JanVranka05 released this 24 Aug 18:49

New in 2.0.0

  • Bookmarks: bookmark/unbookmark current tab, tidy up duplicates and empty folders, a dedicated Bookmarks panel with live search, and import/export via standard Netscape bookmarks HTML (great for moving to a new computer)
  • Slash commands: type / in command search to run any quick action or change a setting, with Claude Code-style autocomplete (Tab to complete, arrows to navigate, Enter to run)
  • Alt+C shortcut: opens the panel; press it again to jump straight to command search
  • Native tab pin/unpin: the pin quick action now toggles Chrome's own tab pinning instead of a custom saved-links list
  • Translate a whole page: paste a URL (or use your current tab) to translate an entire page, not just a selection
  • Collapsible Settings: every section collapses to its title (collapsed by default), a "Collapse all" button appears once 3+ are expanded, and Auto-close/Screenshot/Sync/Spotify each get their own on/off switch
  • Full documentation site at docs.sidebarhub.com covering every feature
  • Fixed quickbar/tabbar icon clipping on narrow panel widths
  • Fixed slash commands for quick actions reporting success before the action actually finished

Full changelog: v1.9.0...v2.0.0

v1.9.0

Choose a tag to compare

@JanVranka05 JanVranka05 released this 23 Aug 17:46

New

  • Browser History — a dedicated section that searches your full chrome.history, separate from the session-based Recently Closed. Jump to a page or remove a single entry.
  • Archive — a permanent home for archived tabs. Filled by Auto-close (in archive mode) or the manual "Archive current tab" action. Synced through the sync folder like Pins/Notes. This section only shows up once something can actually put tabs there.
  • Auto-close inactive tabs (Settings → Auto-close tabs, off by default) — closes background tabs untouched past a threshold you set (1 hour to 7 days, checked daily). Pinned tabs, each window's active tab, and tabs playing audio are always spared. Choose whether it archives first or just closes.
  • Manual archive — a quick action plus Alt+W keybind (mirroring Cmd/Ctrl+W's position) to archive and close the current tab on demand.
  • Quick profile switch — a footer button that opens Chrome's native profile picker.
  • Sync folder (Settings → Sync folder) — point multiple Chrome profiles at the same folder on disk to share Pins, Notes, Clipboard history, a Downloads log, and now Archive between them. No account, no cloud — purely a local file you choose, entirely optional.
  • Tab grouping rule — a Settings toggle so "Group by site" / "Tidy" never touches tabs already sitting in any tab group, so it won't disturb groups you made by hand.

Permissions

  • Adds history (for the Browser History section) and alarms (for the Auto-close scheduler). Chrome will ask you to re-approve permissions on update.

Install

  1. Download smart-sidebar-hub-v1.9.0.zip below and unzip it.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked, select the unzipped smart-sidebar-hub folder.

For Spotify setup, see SPOTIFY_SETUP.md.

v1.8.1

Choose a tag to compare

@JanVranka05 JanVranka05 released this 20 Aug 22:39

New

  • Command Search — a search bar between the quick actions and section tabs (Ctrl/Cmd+K to focus). Searches open tabs, downloads, pins, quick access, recently closed, clipboard history, and notes in one place, plus "go to section" and "run quick action" commands. Arrow keys + Enter to navigate.
  • Pin current tab quick action in the top bar, alongside Tidy/Screenshot/etc.

Changed

  • Settings panel now lists Quick actions above Sections, matching the actual UI order.
  • Freeze icon redrawn as a proper (and properly symmetric) snowflake.

Fixed

  • Tooltip clipping at screen edges is now handled globally via JS-measured clamping, instead of a fragile CSS first-child/last-child rule that broke whenever button order changed.

Install

  1. Download smart-sidebar-hub-v1.8.1.zip below and unzip it.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked, select the unzipped smart-sidebar-hub folder.

For Spotify setup, see SPOTIFY_SETUP.md.

v1.7.1

Choose a tag to compare

@JanVranka05 JanVranka05 released this 20 Aug 21:19

New

  • Ko-fi support link — a heart-icon button in the sidebar's footer bar (next to Settings and Theme), plus a link in Settings → Links

Changed

  • Default open-sidebar shortcut is now Alt+S (was Ctrl+Shift+U / Cmd+Shift+U). Rebind it anytime at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Fixed

  • Tooltips on the footer bar's icons (Settings, Theme, Ko-fi) now open upward instead of downward, so they no longer render off-screen past the bottom edge

Install

  1. Download smart-sidebar-hub-v1.7.1.zip below and unzip it.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked, select the unzipped smart-sidebar-hub folder.

For Spotify setup, see SPOTIFY_SETUP.md.

v1.7.0

Choose a tag to compare

@JanVranka05 JanVranka05 released this 20 Aug 17:28

New

  • Spotify integration — connect your account (see SPOTIFY_SETUP.md) to see what's playing, control playback, and browse playlists, as both a persistent widget and a full panel
  • Custom icon set — every icon across the UI is now a hand-built, theme-aware inline SVG instead of emoji
  • Now Playing progress bar — live, second-by-second, reading the actual page media element (toggleable independently in Settings → Widgets, since it can add some overhead)
  • New quick action: freeze all background tabs (discards them to save memory)

Fixed

  • Stale extension-context error in the clipboard capture content script
  • Reduced Now Playing polling frequency and narrowed its tab-update listener to cut down on jank
  • Tooltips on edge icons no longer overflow the sidebar's left/right bounds

Install

  1. Download smart-sidebar-hub-v1.7.0.zip below and unzip it.
  2. Open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked, select the unzipped smart-sidebar-hub folder.

For Spotify setup, see SPOTIFY_SETUP.md.

v1.5.8

Choose a tag to compare

@JanVranka05 JanVranka05 released this 20 Aug 15:50

Major update since v1.0.0.

New

  • Open Tabs panel merged with tab grouping — group by site right from the panel, tabs nested under group/pinned headers
  • Persistent Now Playing widget with pause and mute controls
  • Quick Actions bar: Tidy tabs, collapse/expand groups, screenshot current tab, pause all media, copy all tab URLs — each toggleable in Settings
  • Quick Access: 2 pinned shortcut chips for instant access to favorite pages
  • Clipboard history — captures text you copy on any page (stored locally only)
  • Rebuilt Settings panel: show/hide any section or action, custom screenshot save location (any folder, not just Downloads), Auto/Light/Dark theme
  • Downloads are now drag-and-droppable straight to the desktop
  • Fast custom tooltips on every icon
  • Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+U / Cmd+Shift+U
