v1.2.11 — The Study Room

Choose a tag to compare

@Jenish-Shobhit Jenish-Shobhit released this 17 Aug 14:48

The biggest update since the Switchboard — everything from v1.2.3 through v1.2.11.

New

  • Playback speed control on every watch page: a − / + pill (0.25× to 4×), with the step size configurable in the popup. Click the readout to reset to 1×; your chosen speed follows you from video to video.
  • Keyboard shortcuts for speed: [ slower, ] faster — rebindable from the popup (click a key box, press a key; Esc cancels, Backspace resets).

Fixed

  • Search is truly native again — zero LearnTube DOM or styling on results pages (the one exception: the Shorts switch still hides Shorts there, via pure CSS).
  • Next / Previous / Up next are positional — Next always goes to the next lecture in course order, watched or not. Course order now comes only from the playlist page, so a scrambled order heals itself the first time you open the playlist.
  • No more end-of-video recommendation wall — both player generations covered, and autoplay-next is actually cancelled (your global Autoplay preference is untouched).
  • Light mode Subscriptions inbox is legible — titles, channel names, hover states, and rating stars no longer render in dark-theme colors on the white page.
  • Oversized sponsored cards no longer appear in the Subscriptions inbox or the feed's List view — in-feed ads have no two-line form, so they aren't drawn there. Grid view and native pages show ads exactly as YouTube renders them.
  • Horizontal scroll removed on watch pages (YouTube's ambient-glow canvas spilled past the centered layout).

Notes

  • After updating an unpacked install, hard-refresh (⌘⇧R) any open YouTube tabs — Chrome doesn't re-inject styles into old tabs.

v1.1.0 — The Switchboard

Choose a tag to compare

@Jenish-Shobhit Jenish-Shobhit released this 07 Jul 15:01

LearnTube v1.1.0 turns the popup into a switchboard and adds on-request feed access, channel blocking, and a redesigned Library.

New

  • Switchboard popup — a master switch plus seven per-surface switches (hide Shorts / watch suggestions / comments / end screens, simplify the top bar, replace Home with your Library, start on Subscriptions) and a Show feed button toggle.
  • Show feed (Peek) — reveal what YouTube would have shown you, on request, as a List or Grid; never reordered, never signalled to the algorithm.
  • Block a channel — from any search or Peek row's ··· menu; hidden everywhere recommendations render.

Fixes & polish

  • Course progress can no longer regress (the scrape merge is monotonic).
  • Manual done-ticks per lecture (counts, Continue, and the ✓ all agree).
  • Overflow (···) menus now appear on rows loaded while scrolling search / Peek.
  • Light-mode readability fixes on the Peek List.
  • A Continue-first, centered Library redesign.

Requires Chrome 105+. Free and open source (MIT).

LearnTube v1.0.0 — live on the Chrome Web Store

@Jenish-Shobhit Jenish-Shobhit released this 18 Jun 12:12

LearnTube v1.0.0

Turn YouTube into a calm place to learn — one master switch, no tracking, no build step.

Install: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/jejlhdamaodimmhcomnihmepididhbde

What it does

  • One master switch — plain, untouched YouTube the instant you flip it off.
  • Shorts, gone — shelves, tiles, the sidebar entry, and the /shorts/ player are hidden site-wide.
  • Subscriptions as an inbox — a compact two-line list; opened videos dim like read mail, star creators, filter to your VIPs, and save a video to a topic.
  • A Learning home — the recommendation wall becomes your Library: add playlists as topics, track progress, resume your next lecture, and work a course as a checklist.
  • Fewer distractions everywhere — watch pages center the player and drop suggestions/comments/end-cards; the masthead is reclaimed to logo · search · account; search gets an optional "Lectures" lens.

Everything is display-only — it never reorders your feed or touches YouTube's recommendation algorithm. All state lives on your device in chrome.storage; nothing is ever sent off-device.

Heads-up

LearnTube is a CSS-first reskin, so a YouTube layout change can break a piece of it until it's updated. If something looks off, please open an issue.
