What Poly is
Poly is a free, open-source polymetric drum sequencer for your DAW: grooves
grounded in real drumming traditions, a guide that cites where every preset
comes from, deterministic output, and an engine that runs in your browser.
Four to eight lanes each run their own cycle and Euclidean pattern, and 45
presets carry grooves from named traditions — West African bell patterns,
Afro-Cuban clave, gamelan, Balkan aksak and more. Poly makes no sound of its
own: it sends MIDI to whatever drum instrument you already have, and the same
settings always produce the same groove. To install, download the zip for
your platform and follow the
README's Download section.
Supported hosts
Cubase Pro 15 on macOS and Cubase 14 on Windows are where Poly is built and
tested, and the only hosts anyone has measured. Other VST3 hosts may work and
have not been tried. Logic Pro is not supported: it routes generated MIDI only
from a MIDI-FX Audio Unit, which Poly does not ship.
Known issues
- Only Cubase has been measured. Other VST3 hosts may work and have not been
tried; the README's host table is the record. - This build is unsigned. macOS quarantines the download and Gatekeeper
refuses the plugin until the flag is cleared with the one command in the
README's Download section; Windows shows a SmartScreen warning that More
info → Run anyway dismisses. - The editor is a fixed 1160×760 window and does not resize; it is cramped on
a 13-inch laptop. - Anything else known to be wrong in this release carries the
known-issue
label: open known issues.
Report a problem
Open an issue with
your host, its version and what you expected to hear; a security concern goes
by email as SECURITY.md
describes.
