Bridge v0.5.0 (ships with AudioSilo server 2.5.1)

  • Makes read-alongs. With server 2.5.1, a book with an ebook gets Make read-along in the console: the Bridge transcribes the book (or reuses a transcript it already has) and lines the ebook's text up with the narration, sentence by sentence. It uses speech recognition only, never the agent. A read-along that lines up less than half the text is refused. Following along in the player comes in a later update. See Making a read-along.
  • Transcripts are kept. Generate queued on a book whose chapter detection was waiting for an ASR worker carries on from the transcription already done, instead of starting again.
  • Asking again right after a cancel works. A job queued straight after you cancel one waits up to 30 seconds for the cancelled one to stop, instead of refusing with "cancel it first".
  • Detected chapters are checked against the audio file's size and modified time (with a 2-second allowance for SMB and FUSE), and a file briefly out of sight fails the job with a try-again message, keeping the work done.
  • Lighter when idle. With 2,000 finished books, an idle Bridge used 4.45% of a CPU core; now 0.14%. The memory used to check a password is handed back about a second after you sign in. A running job reports every 30 seconds instead of 10, so a cancel can take up to about 30 seconds to reach it (the console shows it pending meanwhile).
  • The setup checklist's agent step says in plain words what's wrong (too old, no CLI, the wrong backend, not signed in) and that the agent is for characters, recaps and descriptions. Right after pairing it says "checking the libraries..." rather than that the server has none. Jobs shows library names.
  • A server that can't be reached is logged once, not every 10 seconds per job.
  • Built with golang.org/x/net v0.62.0, for two advisories in its HTML parsing (GO-2026-6866, GO-2026-6860).

Update the image (ghcr.io/kodestar/audiosilo-bridge) to v0.5.0. Bridge v0.3.0 and later keep working with server 2.5.1; making read-alongs needs Bridge v0.5.0 and server 2.5.1.

Bridge v0.4.0

Bridge v0.4.0 (ships with AudioSilo server 2.5.0)

  • Install an ASR worker with one command. The Workers tab leads with a one-line install for macOS and Linux (x86-64 and arm64): the Bridge serves the worker builds for its own version, and the line downloads, installs and starts the worker as a service. Running it again updates the worker and keeps its settings. Add --run to run it in the terminal instead. It works behind a reverse proxy (with public_url set), and a refusal from outside your network prints why rather than failing silently. Each Bridge release on GitHub also carries the worker downloads. On a Mac, transcribing needs Apple silicon: an Intel Mac installs the worker, but there is no speech engine for it.
  • Re-installing a worker over a running one on macOS no longer fails with "Bootstrap failed: 5".
  • Copy buttons work over plain http on a LAN address.
  • Pairing says what actually went wrong: a server that couldn't be reached (with the address to use instead), a server that answered with an error, or a pairing that wasn't saved and needs a new code.
  • The page: Accounts says signed in when GitHub sharing goes through gh or the environment; Status links Workers while speech recognition waits for one; the tab bar wraps on a phone; Jobs uses the console's names for job kinds and no longer shows raw codes.
  • A first start racing a reset-password run can no longer overwrite the new password, and a password change that loses to a reset says so.
  • The :edge and :edge-agent images now follow the main branch, for anyone who wants to test what's next. :latest stays on releases.

Update the image (ghcr.io/kodestar/audiosilo-bridge) to v0.4.0. Bridge v0.3.0 and later keep working with this server; the one-command worker install needs v0.4.0.

Bridge v0.3.1 (ships with AudioSilo server 2.4.1)

  • Resetting the password with reset-password now signs out every Bridge page session in the same step, and a sign-in or password change that was under way at the time can't survive the reset or undo it.
  • Installing ffmpeg, ffprobe or whisper-cli could fail with "text file busy" on Linux while the Bridge was starting another program. ffmpeg and ffprobe are now written so that can't happen, and whisper-cli's first check waits it out; one still busy after that is tried again later, instead of leaving the Bridge on CPU transcription for good.
  • Built with Go 1.26.10.

Update the image (ghcr.io/kodestar/audiosilo-bridge) to v0.3.1. Nothing else to change.
