AmbiEdge 1.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 23 Oct 16:12

Screen-reactive bias lighting for LED strips connected to your PC: AmbiEdge lights the strip behind your monitor or TV with the colors at the edges of the screen.

AmbiEdge is now free and open source under GPL-3.0. It was made with the help of AI (Claude); see How it was made.

Download and run

  1. Download AmbiEdge.exe below. No installation needed.
  2. Double-click it. Windows SmartScreen will probably say it's from an "unknown publisher", because the file isn't code-signed (this is a free project). Click More info → Run anyway if you trust it. Some antivirus programs also flag apps built this way by mistake; the full source is in this repository if you'd rather run from source.
  3. Close your strip's own app, pick your controller on the Device tab (or click Find devices...), set up the Layout, check it with Test layout, then click Start sync.

Works with Robobloq SyncLight (tested), Adalight serial controllers (Arduino / ESP), WLED and OpenRGB (these three are tested against simulated devices only so far, so hardware reports are very welcome). Windows 10 or 11.

What's new since 1.0

  • Tray icon: click to open, right-click for screen sync, mood light, off, brightness and profiles. Closing the window keeps AmbiEdge running in the tray.
  • Lights off when you're away: the strip fades out when the display sleeps, the PC locks or goes to sleep, and comes back by itself.
  • Schedule: only turn the lights on between the times you choose (overnight spans work).
  • Mood light: a plain color, breathe, color cycle or rainbow, all slow on purpose.
  • Profiles: Desktop, Movie and Game (or your own), each with its own look, switching automatically by the app in front.
  • Vivid colors: small saturated details (like a red logo on gray) no longer turn muddy.
  • Fit to LED count: splits your strip over the screen edges automatically.
  • New app icon, and bug report / hardware report templates for issues.

Your settings from 1.0 carry over; your existing look settings become the Desktop profile.

Use at your own risk: AmbiEdge comes with no warranty. Read the Safety notes (power limits and photosensitivity) before you start.
