Translation Guide using Github
This guide is meant to teach users who are new to github how to successfully submit work on a project. Hopefully after reading through this, you will have a greater understanding of github and translating.
- Visit sites like Bulbapedia or Serebii when translating for assistance and new information.
- Using automatic translators is highly forbidden, however it is a great reference when you want to crosscheck your own translations!
- Sometimes a dictionary helps, pick one up at a library or visit a site like Jisho.
- Feel free to contact the translation team members, we would be glad to help you out.
- Never partially translate a sentence. Context means a lot in all languages, and translating only one word does us no good.
I am assuming you have already signed up for GitHub, but if you have not, you can do so by going here. After you are finished, continue to the repo. In this guide we will be using the english repo for this project. There are other languages as well, they will follow the same rules of course.
So now you have an account, you are on the repo, and are ready to begin translating. Just dive right into any of the files. There are 2 folders to start with. 2 is the Main folder, 3 is the Story folder. You can choose whatever you please. I chose folder 2/0000 and then file 0086.txt.
When you select your file, you will see a screen like this:

Make your changes and submit a helpful message:
Write a useful description, like what you changed, reasons for your changes, or if you had trouble.
Take note of how many additions and deletions you made, the numbers should always be equivalent!
Now your committed work is open for review!
Thats it! You're finished. Now you just have to wait for an admin to review your request and your additions will be put into the main project!
