Bunker Busters v1.1.5

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Nov 14:17

What's new

  • Loads faster. The game now runs on a newer version of its 3D engine (three.js r187), and the "Compiling shaders" step of the loading screen takes about a third less time. In the desktop app here, the first start after an update went from 40 seconds to 28
  • A little less work each frame, about 5% in a firefight, so fights run slightly smoother

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Nov 09:17

What's new

  • Built by ApexForge. A small link under the title menu and in the credits goes to ApexForge's page; in the desktop app it opens in your browser. Every page of the website has it in the footer too

Bunker Busters v1.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Nov 15:06

What's new

  • Everyone moves like people. Every character in the game now idles, talks and gestures on real motion capture. At the camp fire, Mara, Hollis, Pip and Dez sit as people do on a log: hands on their knees, looking round, rubbing an arm against the cold, laughing, talking with their hands. Before, they played a clip made for sitting on the floor leaning back on your hands, and on a log its hands swung forward to the ground with the elbows locked backwards. Sol and Ren sit up at Dry Creek's fire too. The people on their feet shift their weight, look about, nod, shrug and talk naturally, and the people at desks type, write and talk across the desk
  • The logs are at sitting height (47 cm; they were 62), and everyone sitting has their boots flat on the ground instead of their toes in the sand
  • Smoother people and animals. Every character model shaded like a cut gem, each patch of triangles catching the light on its own; they're smooth now, and the townsfolk have their cloth folds, seams and faces back
  • Smaller campfire sparks. They rose as big glowing dots far into the sky; now they're small and die out within a metre or two

Bunker Busters v1.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Nov 09:37

What's new

  • People at the fires sit up. On a log or a crate nobody leans back any more as if there were a chair back behind them, and nobody stretches out with their hands behind their head; they sit upright with their feet on the ground. Ada, in Doc's desk chair, still leans back

Bunker Busters v1.1.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Nov 09:00

What's new

  • People sit properly. Everyone sitting by a fire or at a desk now has their feet on the ground and stays on the seat; on the camp's logs their legs used to hang in the air. Round the fires, people talk with their hands instead of throwing their arms wide and leaning back off the log
  • Ladders you can climb. The roof ladder at Last Chance, the Kade overwatch towers, the drive-in screen's catwalk and Dry Creek's water tower, which now has a balcony round its tank. Walk into a ladder or press Use, push forward to climb, and jump to let go. At the top you step off onto the roof. Your gun goes away while you climb and comes back out at the top. A controller's stick and the phone's move stick climb too
  • Climb onto things. Jump into a crate, a car's hood, a low wall or a rock up to about chest height and you pull yourself up onto it. Holding jump in the air catches an edge. Crates, pallets, coolers and cars are now solid up to their real tops, so you stand on them instead of sinking into them
  • The Dome's fence holds. It had gaps you could walk through anywhere. Now the outfall culvert is the only way under it

Bunker Busters v1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Nov 04:33

What's new

  • Starts sooner in the browser. A third less to download before the title screen, the later bunkers' people load while you're on it, and the loading screen shows real progress, time left and a few tips
  • Settings for everyone. Five tabs (Gameplay, Video, Audio, Controls, Accessibility) with voice volume, brightness, subtitle size and background, camera shake, Reduce flashing, and hold or toggle for crouch, sprint and aim. Menus also work with the arrow keys and Enter
  • Graphics AUTO. New players in the browser start on a preset that suits their graphics card, and the resolution adjusts to stay smooth. Pick a preset yourself and it stays put. The game also uses about half the memory, so phones close the tab far less often
  • The first hour tells you what to press. Hints, prompts and minigame footers name your actual controls: rebound keys, controller buttons, or the on-screen buttons on a phone. Mara no longer reads keyboard keys over the radio, and your first night tells you where the torch is
  • News you used to miss. New quests, XP and level-ups that arrived during a conversation, at the camp or in a minigame now show when you're back. Act I's last line no longer talks over Mara
  • Your save is safer. The game tells you when this browser can't keep a save (a private window, blocked site data) or its storage is full; a damaged save no longer vanishes or loads into an empty world (the title says so and keeps a copy); playing in two tabs no longer undoes your progress; and the game saves when you switch away from its tab
  • Long sessions stay light. Quit to title and Continue no longer leak memory each time, and a new game after Quit no longer inherits the old run's map or its wrecked outposts
  • Smaller fixes. Bunker owners no longer greet you again at bunkers you've already busted, holding a controller button works at low frame rates, and alt-tabbing mid-lift no longer bends your lockpick
  • When something goes wrong. If the game can't start, or the graphics driver resets, it says what happened and what to try. Credits and Report a bug are in the title and pause menus
  • Apex's corridor. The chevrons painted on the floor lie on the floor again; they stood on their edges and looked like dark shards over the laser beams. The forecast on Prudence's desk lies flat too
  • The words match the map. Directions, distances and years in a dozen spoken lines and many notes now agree with the valley (Hunter's jet heads south-west, where it came down), Pip's age adds up, Kit knows how much her moat holds, the title shows your run's day, People entries no longer give later acts away, and Mara says "Act Four", not "Act Iv"
  • Desktop. A failed update says why in one line and leaves your game as it was, downloads are about 30 MB smaller and carry their licences, Linux launchers group properly in the dock, and the Windows installer has the game's icon
  • Colour isn't the only cue. The minimap, the lockpick, hit markers and food and water warnings no longer rely on colour alone
  • Phones and small things. The Kit always has its close button, takedowns get a prompt, toasts no longer slide under the objective, the clock calls night night, and a new run starts standing even if you quit while crouched
  • The website. A press kit and a privacy page, and a much lighter first view (8 MB down to under 0.5 MB). The game's code is now open source under the MIT licence

Bunker Busters v1.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Oct 11:40

What's new

  • People round the fires sit up. Everyone at Last Chance and Dry Creek's street fire used to share one hunched, chin-on-hand pose, staring into their shirts. They sit upright and cross-legged now, neighbours crossing opposite legs, and Hollis and Wick still nod off now and then
  • One at a time. Round a fire one person talks while the others turn to listen, and the talker looks at them. Walk up to a group and the nearest one talks to you while the rest just look up, instead of all of them gesturing at you at once. Talking comes in short spells, and seated talk is calmer
  • More ways to stand. Nia, Doc, Inez, Ezra, Prudence, Benny, Orrin and Agnes no longer share a single idle: each drifts between calm loops of their own
  • Kade on the move. A contractor running with his gun up moves with his stride instead of gliding with a frozen upper body, and one turning on the spot steps round instead of swivelling on his feet
  • Robots that walk. The Dome's Helpers, Bunker Zero's Doormen and the Fortress's technicians no longer slide their feet as they walk
  • Wolves keep their distance. A pack closing in no longer runs through itself

Bunker Busters v1.0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Oct 09:52

What's new

  • Bunkers in any order. Mara now plays every debrief you're owed, oldest first. Finishing a later bunker before an earlier one used to lose the earlier debrief, and with it the next act's quest and rewards
  • Continue puts you back where you saved. Upstairs in the Spire, in the Dome's pod, down in Bunker Zero: you load where you were, not on the ground underneath (one spot by the Dome's stair could trap you there)
  • A pause is a pause. The pause menu, the Kit and the map stop the clock, the animals and the bunkers. A wolf pack can't kill you while you read the map
  • Quit to title, then a new run. The mouse is free on the title screen (the desktop app looked frozen until you pressed Esc), an alarm or a death no longer follows you there, and a new run starts clean: places to discover again, Dry Creek's doors shut, every bunker's machines back on
  • Getting caught walks you away from the door. A keypad, lock or card still open after a catch could open a door from the far end of the bunker. Going down closes it too
  • Bunker Zero's tin cans stay underground. Its showroom tripwires were going off on the forecourt above them from the first minute of a run
  • Story things stay in your pack. The Kit no longer drops deeds, orders, badges and relays (dropping one ended its favour). A full pack leaves a cache where it is instead of losing it, and what doesn't fit from a recovered pack stays in the pack
  • Keypads cool off. A locked-out keypad takes guesses again a minute after the alarm ends. Two wrong codes at the Panopticon's tower used to shut it for good
  • Founders wait their turn. Orrin no longer greets you at the Garage in Act I, Kit stops taunting Photon Park, and a far bunker's banner and map marker wait until you're close or its act has started
  • The desert. About forty thin blades of terrain, like the striped pyramid south of Dry Creek, are gone. The mesas are still there
  • Smaller fixes. The Cathedral's returns ride, the Spire's core, the Dome's patches (no more fixes shipping while you're at the camp), the Doormen, the Fortress's chains, deck and moat, the Garage fuse box through the wall, Vesper's laser line on every Continue, the music going silent after a quick Quit and Continue, Pip at the fire after midnight, Apex's road (it runs north past Dry Creek), and the small-phone HUD

Bunker Busters v1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Oct 11:09

What's new

  • A proper ending. After Mara's last debrief, the story closes on its own screen: the day, the locks you picked, the times you were caught, the hours on the road, and all eight bunkers with the people who built them
  • The Fortress queue sits by the road. The camping chairs in the allocation queue used to climb straight up the side of the mesa. They're on the shoulder of Lattice's road now, facing the gate, and the note with the code is on a chair where you can see it
  • No more rocks stuck to cliffs. Stones, boulders and gravel no longer cling halfway up the mesa faces
  • The Longshot. The skin panels torn off the booster lie on the sand instead of hanging in the air beside it
  • Banners and subtitles stay apart. Long place names (The Cloud Cathedral) no longer wrap onto two lines and run into whoever is greeting you, and on phones the place banner steps aside while someone is talking

Bunker Busters v1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 16 Oct 19:26

What's new

  • The story is finished. Act VIII: Dez finally places the carrier he couldn't find, and it's under the camp. Bunker Zero is sixty rungs below the forecourt at Last Chance, built by the woman who built every other bunker in the valley. Raise Mara after the Fortress's debrief to start it
  • The showroom. Every founder's defences as they were first drawn: Tanner's tin-can tripwires, Ezra's cameras, Prudence's laser grid, Vesper's airlock (the code is the time on the clock over it), and two polite Doormen who walk you back to the ladder. At the end, a board with four units of power and a round door that wants two. Each display has a placard with the change orders the founder signed, which are the ways you got in
  • Who gets the well. Keep the master key and Zero belongs to Last Chance, or break it and send the well up to a standpipe on the forecourt for anyone who walks up the highway. Either way the camp drinks every day afterwards, and Mara's last debrief ends the story. The valley stays open: keep playing as long as you like
  • The Cloud Cathedral is open. Act VI: Orrin Sayle's fulfilment centre in the north basin, built like a cathedral, with a rose window that tells the time and a bell tower that launches delivery drones. Dropt's road leaves the highway east of Recovery Point 7
  • The swarm. Drones circle the lot and tag anyone they see as a delivery address. The rest come, and enough of them together carry you back to the edge of the lot. Hide under the vans and the awnings, shoot them down, ground them at the tower, or carry Rider 9's open order and they'll let you be
  • Ride in as a return. The returns kiosk takes an order number, and you ride the line in a tote over the aisle and into the heart of the building. Or go in through the dock, where robots shuffle the shelving cell by cell and stop for anything in their way
  • The Chip Fortress is open. Act VII: Kit Szabo's black star fort under the southern range, inside a moat of coolant at minus forty. Lower the drawbridge, drain the moat, or swim it and come out too cold for the thermal cameras to see
  • Three units of power. The Fortress's board runs the chillers, a laser grid, the lights and the vault door, and there isn't enough for all of them. Choose what to switch off
  • Two endings each. Shut the Cathedral and let the night shift walk out, or hand it to them and get a delivery at camp every morning. Cook Kit's nine months of chips, or send the Fortress's power to the camps
  • New people. Orrin and the four associates still on the shift that started on Pivot Day, led by Lo; Kit, waiting for the price to peak, and Marek's technicians on one unit of heat a day. Lo comes to the camp if she walks out
  • New people. Agnes Price, the builder, at her drafting table by the well, and her two Doormen
  • More voices. 218 new lines for Orrin, Lo, the associates, the drones, Kit, Marek, the technicians, Agnes and the Doormen, and Mara's three debriefs
