Handoff v0.5.0
What's new, as a short video: Handoff-0.5.0-whats-new.mp4 below.
New: your organisation's look on every export
Settings → Branding makes guides look like your own documents: an accent colour, text colours, the click marker's colour, fonts for headings and text (four built in, or import your own), a logo, your organisation's name ("Recorded 3 Nov by Acme Ltd") and a footer line, with a live preview, warnings for hard-to-read colours and a sample PDF.
- Save as many brands as you need, one per client for example. The ticked one is used for every export; the Brand menu next to Export picks another for one export.
- It reaches the web page, PDF and Word file, the Markdown and Notion import, the screenshots' click marker, procedures, handover packs, the guide-check report, the video overview, and the Follow window (the guide's logo and accent). Handoff's own window keeps its look.
- Share a brand with your team as a
.handoff-brandfile; brand files in the shared library folder are offered in everyone's Settings.
The video overview, improved
- Choose its length: Short (the steps always done, about 45 seconds), Standard (about a minute) or Full (every step), with an estimate before it is made; Change length makes it again with the same captions.
- Step titles of up to seven words are now the captions as they are; the local model only shortens longer ones. A test on real guides showed the model's rewrites of short titles were worse than the titles.
- Apple's on-device model now writes captions: it closed its JSON with the wrong bracket, so every caption fell back to the title. Handoff now mends that, which also protects guide steps it writes.
- The caption editor's fields were squeezed in the shared library and hidden behind the action bar on the Review screen; Edit captions now opens on the first caption.
- Tested making real videos on Windows and Linux in CI, at every length.
Also
- The window's margins are even on Macs that show scroll bars.
- The Linux
.deband.rpmare back: the bundled video encoder is nowhandoff-ffmpeg, so it no longer clashes with a system ffmpeg. - A branded web page stays readable in dark mode.
- Just after the menu bar menu has been used, macOS holds Control-Option-N back from Handoff for a moment: the note window still opens and asks for a click in the box, and that click now goes straight to the box.
