LlamaTree 1.3.3
1.3.3 includes everything in 1.3.2, which it replaces.
Pick up where you left off
When LlamaTree has no sessions (the first time you open it, or after you've closed them all), it now welcomes you and helps you get going:
- You've used Claude Code or Codex before: it lists your 20 latest conversations, newest first, with each one's folder, branch and last prompt. Tick the ones you want, choose a project for them (pick one, or type a name to make a new one), and Open starts them all, each resuming its conversation. Double-click one to open just that one, or More conversations… to see the rest.
- Neither is installed yet: it says so, and shows the one-line installer for Claude Code and for Codex, with a Copy button and a link to each one's install guide. Once you've installed one, the page notices by itself, with no need to restart LlamaTree.
- Installed, but no conversations yet: New Session… starts your first one in a folder you pick.
One line, and it opens
The install one-liners are shorter, and now open LlamaTree when they're done:
irm https://llamatree.dev/install.ps1 | iex
curl -fsSL https://llamatree.dev/install.sh | sh
They still download from this release and check it against its signed checksums. LlamaTree isn't opened when the window is elevated, over SSH or without a desktop, when installing as root, or when WebView2 is missing; set LLAMATREE_NO_LAUNCH=1 to stop it for scripted installs. If LlamaTree is already open on Windows, its window comes to the front.
Sessions can start when LlamaTree opens
A new Starts setting, in New session and ⋯ › Rename / edit command…, for Claude and Codex sessions on this computer:
- When you first click on its terminal (as before)
- When LlamaTree opens, if it was running when LlamaTree last closed, which also survives signing out of Windows
- When LlamaTree opens, always
Drop files on a terminal
Drag files onto a terminal, or onto a tile, to paste their paths, as Ctrl+V does with files copied in Explorer. Claude Code and Codex attach a screenshot dropped this way. Paths with spaces are quoted, and a session on a server gets copies of the files first.
Themes do more
- A floor of their own: a theme can bring its own animated background. It runs sandboxed, with no network and no access to LlamaTree's page, and is told only the window size, the theme's colours and how many sessions are in each state. If it misbehaves it's stopped, and Show 's own floor in the palette menu turns it off.
- Their own light cycle: a theme with the light-cycle cursor can draw its own cycle, glow and trail.
- Their own status dots: colours, or pictures with a motion (spin, pulse, blink…), shown first in Status dots… while the theme is on.
- Matrix, Nerds and Tron are now published in LlamaTree-Themes as well as built in, so Get themes… can update them between releases. Matrix and Tron have new floors, and Tron's Ares accent is now Redline (your colour doesn't change).
- Nerds (and any single-colour theme) now shows status dots in real colours, so working, waiting and asking are easy to tell apart.
Also new
- Drag a session onto a project (its tab, its row down the left, or its group name) to move it there, including from Unknown and into an empty or hidden project.
- Git Changes: a folder row has a + on hover that stages everything changed under it, or − in Staged Changes to unstage it.
Fixed
- In a narrow sessions bar, session names were cut short while their shortcut and marks kept their width. Now the shortcut and marks give way first.
- In a narrow side bar, New Session and New project wrapped over several lines. They now stack when they don't fit side by side, and "New project (group sessions)" is now just "New project".

LlamaTree 1.3.1
Your other Windows PCs as servers
Sessions on servers now work with Windows PCs too, not just Linux servers: run sessions on your desktop and work with them from your laptop.
- Let my other computers connect… (click the version at the top right) sets up the PC you want to connect to: one Windows permission prompt turns on Windows' own SSH server, makes it start with Windows, opens it in the firewall, and turns off password sign-in. Paste your other computer's public key into it, and it shows what to type there (
you@that-pc) and the PC's addresses. Turn off undoes it. - Sessions run in your desktop session on that PC, so Git's sign-ins work as usual and LlamaTree opened there shows the same sessions. They keep running when the connection drops.
- The account on that PC must be a local, Microsoft or on-premises domain account; Windows' SSH server can't sign in a work or school (Entra ID) account with a key. See A Windows PC as the server in the guide.
Get plugins and Get themes
Get plugins… and Get themes… in the palette menu list what LlamaTree-Plugins and LlamaTree-Themes publish, with Install, Update, Open and Remove. Downloads are checked against the catalog's SHA-256 before they're unpacked.
Projects as tabs
Layout › Projects as tabs (off unless you turn it on) shows the Top layout's projects as tabs: All, then one per project. Click one to see only its sessions, Ctrl+click to add another, and unpin the ones you use less to move them into a ▾ menu, as in Visual Studio.
Safer
A security review of LlamaTree led to these changes:
- Updates are checked against signed checksums and the installer's signature, by the updater and by the one-line install scripts, so a copy of an installer from anywhere but us is refused.
- A repository whose own Git settings can run programs (filters, an SSH command, a credential helper) asks before LlamaTree runs Git there.
- A server can't get a program run on your computer through a file name it chooses, and a server's sessions, messages and plugin files have limits, so a misbehaving server can't take down your local sessions.
- Remove Worktree lists ignored files (
.env, local settings, build output) before deleting them, and only tidies up that worktree. - A damaged
sessions.jsonis kept aside and restored from its backup, not replaced with an empty list. - Panel buttons and Refresh type only plain text into a session, never control keys.
- Plugins: a plugin page that navigates away loses the plugin's permissions, plugin pages can't use the clipboard, and a plugin whose files changed since you allowed it asks again. A plugin's ask is answered by Claude with no tools, even for a Codex session.
- Terminal links open only web addresses, and a link whose text differs from where it goes shows both first.
- On Linux and macOS, pasted pictures and the app's connection to its session host stay in your own folders, not the shared
/tmp. - LlamaTree keeps a log of what it refused or dropped, in its local data folder under
logs.
Fixed
- Codex sessions sometimes left a message or prompt from LlamaTree sitting in the box until you pressed Enter.
- A session sometimes stayed wrapped at a narrow width while its terminal filled the window.
- A server session that stopped without saying so (when its server's LlamaTree was updated, say) still showed as running.
- Down the left, a session whose branch is longer than its name had its name centred over the branch.
- New session's list of other worktrees showed large empty boxes instead of check boxes and paths.
- The side panel button now has the side panel's icon, the same as Show/Hide the side panel in its menu, not Git's.
- Reading a conversation with an unexpected line in it could show its turns more than once.

Sessions on your servers, alongside your own
Run Claude Code and Codex sessions on a Linux server and see them in the same window as the ones on your computer.
- New Session → Computer picks where a session runs: this computer, or a server you reach with SSH (
user@server, or a Host from your SSH config). LlamaTree signs in with your SSH keys or ssh-agent. - A server's sessions show among yours, in your projects. A server badge on the tab and tile shows where each one runs, and turns red while the server can't be reached.
- They keep running on the server when you close LlamaTree, your computer sleeps or the connection drops. LlamaTree reconnects by itself and shows what they did meanwhile.
- Everything works as it does locally: typing, Git Changes and diffs, browsing the server's folders, pasting pictures (they're copied to the server), and opening the server's files (a read-only copy opens on your computer).
- Panels, messages and plugins work across machines. A server session's panels show beside it, it can message your local sessions under the same permissions, and the server's plugins appear with its name after them.
- LlamaTree must be on the server. If it isn't, LlamaTree offers to install it there for you. If the server's copy is older than yours, its badge offers to update it. Both use sudo where it needs no password, and otherwise install a copy just for your account.
Sessions keep running when the window closes
Closing LlamaTree now asks whether to keep running sessions going in the background or stop them. Kept running, they're there when you open LlamaTree again, with what they showed meanwhile. Quit and stop all sessions in the version menu stops everything.
Agents can start and run sessions of their own
Claude can hand work to a new session and drive it: send it prompts, wait for it, answer its permission prompts, stop it, and close it when it's done.
- You're asked before a session is started, unless you allow it in Permissions → Agents, per session, per project or for all.
- It can only start sessions in its own folder, a folder another session in its project uses, a folder inside either, or a new Git worktree. It can only drive sessions it started.
- Everything agents do is listed in the Agents log.
- A message wakes a session. A session that's waiting to be opened after LlamaTree restarts now starts when another session messages it, so the sender isn't left waiting. And if a session's agent misses the Enter after the notice that it has a message, LlamaTree presses it again.
macOS and Linux
LlamaTree now runs on Linux. Install it with one line (below), or with the .deb, .rpm or .tar.gz from this release. It updates itself like the Windows app. A macOS package isn't available yet.
Also new
- Layout: projects and sessions across the top (as before), projects down the left, or both down the left as a tree. Choose it in the palette menu, or by right-clicking a bar. Down the left, each session shows its branch beneath its name (Layout › Show branches turns that off), and the branch is in every session's tooltip.
- How solid the terminals are: under Matrix and Tron, a small slider in the terminal's corner lets the theme's floor show through, or not, remembered for each theme. A theme of your own allows it with
"terminalBackground". - The Tron light cycle rides beside the cursor, rather than over what you're typing, and the cursor blinks again.
- Branch picker and New Branch in the Git panels, after Visual Studio's, with a status bar in Git Changes. Switching with uncommitted changes asks whether to bring them or stash them.
- File and folder paths in a terminal are links. Click to open one; right-click to open its folder or copy the path. Nothing is ever run.
- Turn off the Git tabs if you don't use Git: right-click a Git tab, or use the palette menu's Side panel section.
- One-line install:
irm …/install.ps1 | iexon Windows,curl … | shon Linux (below). - The Permissions button left the title bar; Permissions is in the palette menu, with its count of waiting messages.
- Codex's own state: a Codex session's dot now follows what Codex reports (working, ready, waiting for you), not only when it needs an answer.
- An opt-in count of users. A line along the top asks whether we may count you, until you answer. Nothing is sent unless you say yes. If you do, once an hour while LlamaTree is open it sends a random id, the app's version, your operating system and its version, and how many projects and sessions you have open: no names, paths or contents. What it sends shows it all, and the version menu turns it off any time.
- The guide is on llamatree.dev, and LlamaTree is now under the Apache License 2.0 (versions up to 1.2.0 stay under MIT).
Fixed
- Fedora 45's dnf refused the
.rpm("does not verify: no digest"). - A session that had just started while you weren't looking at it showed Waiting for you rather than Idle.

LlamaTree 1.2.0
Claude Terminals is now LlamaTree
Same app, new name and a new icon. Updating carries everything over:
- Your sessions, projects, panels, plugins and settings come with you. The first time 1.2 starts it moves
%APPDATA%\ClaudeTerminalsand%LOCALAPPDATA%\ClaudeTerminalstoLlamaTree. Sessions pick up their conversations as after any update. - It installs over the old version, in the same folder. The Start menu and desktop shortcuts are replaced with LlamaTree ones.
- A taskbar pin of Claude Terminals stops working, because the program is now
LlamaTree.exe. Unpin it, start LlamaTree and pin that. - Plugins keep working. Ones written for Claude Terminals still get their messages under the old names.
- If you wrote permission rules by hand for the app's tools (
mcp__claude-terminals__…in your Claude Code settings), rename them tomcp__llamatree__…. The app's own sessions don't need this, because the app allows its tools itself. - The project now lives at github.com/LlamachantTechnology/LlamaTree. Old links redirect.
New
- Paste an image into a terminal. With a screenshot or other image on the clipboard,
Ctrl+Vpastes the path of a PNG saved from it, which Claude Code and Codex attach to your prompt. Files copied in File Explorer paste as their paths.
Fixed
- A tip or offer without a button ended in the word "null".

Claude Terminals 1.1.6
New
- Sessions can message each other. Ask a Claude or Codex session to "ask the api session what it changed in the parser", and it sends the question and waits for the answer. The other agent sees the message as from another agent, never as your prompt.
- The first time a session messages one it has no rule for, you're asked: this time only, or a rule for that session, its project or any session.
- A session is told it has messages once it's idle and you aren't typing in it. A stopped session is told when it next runs.
- An exchange ends after 12 messages, so two agents can't keep answering each other for ever.
- Pause messages stops all of it at once.
- Permissions. Palette button › Permissions shows what every plugin and session may do:
- By plugin: each plugin's access (Allowed, Ask first or Not allowed), the projects it may see, and any sessions you've hidden from it.
- By session: who each session may message, and which plugins see it.
- Messages: the latest 500 messages and what became of each. Answer the ones waiting for you from here.
- Reset on a plugin's or a session's card forgets your answers about it, so you're asked again.
- Plugins can ask for more. Each kind of access is asked for once, and only covers the projects you choose:
- See your sessions: their names, projects and status, and what the agent did in each.
- Message your sessions: a plugin's messages arrive labelled as from the plugin, never as your prompt, and are listed in Permissions › Messages.
- Ask Claude about your sessions: Claude, run once with your own sign-in and no tools, answers a question about the sessions the plugin sees.
- A plugin's menu items only show on the sessions and projects it may see.
- A plugin can have an icon of its own, shown in the menus and in Permissions.
- Move a plugin between the side panel and a tab. Drag its tab across, or right-click it › Open as a tab or Move to the side panel. The side panel's tabs now wrap onto a second line when they don't fit.
- Two new themes:
- Tron: the Grid, ruled in light-lines of your accent colour with a glow at the horizon, in Bahnschrift, with a light cycle cursor that leaves a fading ribbon. Amber, mint and red still mark what needs you, what went well and what went wrong.
- Matrix: green phosphor on black, with glyphs raining down the window's floor and, dimmed, behind the terminals' text.
- A theme can suggest accent colours, at the top of Accent colour: Tron suggests its own cyan and Ares red; Nerds green phosphor, amber and paper white.
- A stopped session's Conversation tab shows the conversation it would resume.
- Icons in the palette menu, with a swatch beside each theme, and the status dots' item showing the style in use.
- Open in File Explorer on folders in Git Changes.
- Updates are checked every 15 minutes, instead of every 6 hours.
Fixed
- Undo could treat a file as already gone when a junction or link in its path hid it.
- Dragging a side panel tab over a plugin's page lost the drag, so the tab couldn't go into a new group below the others.

- Close one with × and it doesn't come back; the next waits a while rather than popping up straight away.
- Tips and offers… in the version menu (or right-click the line) lists them all, including ones you've closed, with Show again.
- Turn tips and offers off with Show tips and offers in the same menus. News still shows.
- Nothing about you is sent: the app only fetches the list. And it shows only notices signed by us, so nobody else can put words there.

Codex sessions. Make a session's command
codexto run OpenAI's Codex CLI beside your Claude Code sessions. A Codex session:- keeps a conversation of its own and reopens it with
codex resumewhen the app or the session restarts, following you through/newand/resume; - appears in the resume picker, tagged Codex;
- can show panels beside the terminal, like Claude;
- gets the conversation rail and the Conversation tab;
- turns its dot pink when Codex is waiting for your approval or answer;
- writes Suggest's commit message with Codex itself.
You need the Codex CLI on
PATH. A Codex session doesn't yet start in matching light or dark colours. - keeps a conversation of its own and reopens it with
-
A tab beside the terminal. Drag a diff, Conversation or plugin tab towards a side of the session area to show it there, with the terminal beside it (or right-click the tab and pick a side). Drag the divider to resize; the side and size are remembered.
-
Themes. Themes are now files, listed under the palette button below System, Light and Dark.
- Nerds: everything in shades of your accent colour on near-black, in a monospaced face with a faint glow. Pick green under Accent colour for a phosphor terminal, or amber for an old amber screen.
- Your own themes: Save as a new theme… writes the theme you're looking at to your themes folder with every colour written out, for you to change. The README's Themes section lists everything a theme can set.
Fixed
- The Terminal tab showed the count of sessions waiting for you next to the open session's name, as if it were that session's own.
- With no projects, the + at the end of the session tabs sat a little high. The session tabs are now outlined as one group, as they are in a project.

Plugins: web pages of your own inside Claude Terminals. A plugin is a folder holding a
plugin.jsonand its page. Put it in the plugins folder: palette button › Plugins › Open the plugins folder. It shows in the menu the next time you open it, without restarting. A plugin can:- open as a document tab, or as a tab in the side panel beside Git Changes (side panel plugins come back after a restart);
- add up to 8 items to the palette menu, a project's right-click menu, a session's ⋯ menu or a session tab's right-click menu, and be told which project or session was clicked;
- add an icon button to the title bar (right-click it › Hide this button; the palette menu brings it back);
- put a count or a dot on its tab, and set its tab's caption;
- follow the app's light or dark theme.
The README's Plugins section explains how to write one.
-
Plugins can't touch your sessions. A plugin runs in a sandbox. It can't see your sessions, terminals, files or Git, and it can't reach the app or other plugins. It gets no browser permissions and can't open windows or leave its own pages. It knows only the name, id and folder of a project or session you picked one of its menu items on.

Project view: a project's worktrees side by side. Click a project's name at the start of its group on the session tab row (again to go back), or choose Project view from a session's ⋯ menu or a project's right-click menu. It switches to the view the way clicking a session's tab switches to that session. There's one row per worktree of each repository the project's sessions are in, including worktrees made outside the app or whose session was closed. Each row shows:
- the worktree's branch, folder and session, with its status dot;
- what the session is on;
- how many files are changed, with a ⚠ when the same file is changed in another worktree too;
- how far the branch is ahead of and behind the base branch;
- its pull request.
Click a row for the latest prompt and answer, the changed files, and the actions: Open session, Start a session here, View PR or New pull request, and Remove worktree…. Removing a worktree is never forced and keeps the branch.
-
New worktree… on the Project view's toolbar adds a worktree of the project's repository on a new branch, started from its base branch.
-
Optional session for a new worktree. New worktree… and + › In a new worktree… have a Start a session in it box. Untick it to create just the worktree.
-
Four status dot styles. The palette button › Status dots shows Glow (the default), Classic, Calm and Signal side by side, each moving. Clicking one previews it on the whole app. With Windows' animation effects turned off, every style still tells the states apart by shape.
Fixed
- Typing in a terminal no longer loses the keyboard focus. A few seconds after you started typing, focus could drop out of the terminal, and the next Tab moved it to a Git Changes tab or a button.
- Glow's working dots showed two dots instead of three.
- Push for a new worktree's branch. A branch made in a new worktree from
origin/maintookorigin/mainas its upstream, so Push failed. The branch now has no upstream until its first Push, which publishes it under its own name.
