Highlights

  • Cinematic voices fixed. Dialogue lines in cutscenes that were silent or cut off (often at camera cuts) now play in full. Still a stable 30 FPS on the default RTV path.

Changes

  • Cause: cinematic dialogue is stored as multi-stream (5.1) XMA – three interleaved stereo streams, with the voice only in the centre stream. The XMA decoder restarted at packet 0 on every new 32 KB input block, so streams 1-2 decoded stream 0's packets and the centre channel was lost.
  • New runtime patch patches/rexglue/afro-xma-fix-log.patch (in rexruntime.dll): cvar afro_xma_substream (default on) continues each stream at its next packet in the next block.
  • Same patch: backport of Xenia-canary's XMA Work() loop and output-valid handling (cvar afro_xma_fix, default on), plus optional diagnostics (afro_xma_log, off by default).
  • tools/build_gpu_plugin.bat now builds and installs both rexgpu-xenos.dll and rexruntime.dll (stock DLLs kept as *.dll.stock).

Known issues

  • Some tutorial pop-ups advance too fast (before the voice line ends).
  • Only the Europe disc is supported.

Building

Source only, bring your own disc: make an ISO of your Europe disc, then follow the README (tools\build_win.bat, then tools\build_gpu_plugin.bat).
Tested on one PC (Windows, AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT).

Source only – no binaries, no game data. You need your own original Afro Samurai disc (Xbox 360, Europe, Redump 17884). Afro Samurai is a trademark of its respective owners; this project is not affiliated with them. Code under GPL-3.0; patches/rexglue/ under BSD-3-Clause.
