FatRat 1.3.2
Highlights
- Browser extensions. We have publish browser extensions for Google Chrome and Firefox. These extensions require FatRat 1.3.2+.
- fatrat-unpack. This plugin has been revived. It now uses libarchive to also handle 7z archives. The plugin is usable also in the web interface
- Watch folders. A queue can now watch a folder. Dropped
.torrentfiles, metalinks and link lists are added automatically. Set it from the desktop queue dialog, the web UI or the terminal UI. Queues report problems with their watch folder. - Documentation. There is a full set of documentation pages, linked from the website, README, man pages and web UI. It covers transfers, BitTorrent, RSS, the scheduler, extensions, the REST API, D-Bus, running on a server, the terminal interface and more.
- Web UI. The web UI has keyboard shortcuts, a faster initial load, and an upgrade to Angular 22.
- Bug fixes. About two dozen bugs are fixed across the core, BitTorrent, the server and the UIs.
New features
- Keyboard shortcuts in the web UI. Toolbar actions and tabs have hotkeys. Press
?to show them, or use the Shortcuts button. Enter confirms dialogs, Ctrl/Cmd+Enter submits New Transfer and saves Transfer Properties, and Backspace deletes transfers. Letter hotkeys ignore Caps Lock and work with AltGr. - Browser extension setup. A new button in the web interface settings sets up the browser extension. The website has an install and connect page. Links passed as
#add=open in the New Transfer dialog. - Web UI.
- Add several local files (such as
.torrent) at once in New Transfer. - Delete Queue action, and a New Queue button on mobile.
- Speed Graphs are split into Transfer Speed and Queue Speed tabs.
- A tidier toolbar, with a Docs link.
- The task list opens when a task starts and closes when the last one ends.
- Add several local files (such as
- Torrents.
- Sequential download and first/last pieces first options.
- The file list refreshes when magnet metadata arrives.
- Resuming a transfer takes it out of upload mode.
- The Create torrent dialog supports web seed editing and DHT nodes, and handles a cancelled save.
- Metalink. Local metalink files are copied privately, so removing the original no longer breaks the transfer.
- Server and packaging.
- The deb packages ship systemd system and user units for the FatRat server.
- New
fatrat-devpackage with the plugin headers for both Qt flavours. - AppStream metadata and icons rendered from the SVG logo.
- Command line.
fatrat-confaccepts-c/--config <file>, likefatrat. - D-Bus. New
addTransfersCheckedmethod returns the error string. - REST. Queues expose and validate their watch folder. Uploads of files no engine recognises get a
no_matching_engineerror. The OpenAPI spec now documents plugins, plugin repositories, tasks and transfer actions. - macOS. README and website have install instructions using the Homebrew tap.
Changes
- New queues default to unlimited active transfers in the web UI and TUI.
- New queues default to the platform's Downloads directory.
- The clipboard monitor's default patterns also match
https://links. - The terminal UI's new RSS rules include repacks and exclude manual releases by default.
- Resume acts per transfer in the web UI and TUI, like the desktop. Resume All only queues paused and failed transfers, and Stop All spares completed ones.
- The desktop UI uses KiB/s, KiB and MiB consistently for the ×1024 units. Settings > Network now says that the line speed only scales the speed graphs.
- The web UI switches from PrimeNG 22 to the MIT-licensed Optimus UI fork. Chart tabs and the settings dialog load on demand to shrink the initial bundle. It also uses a favicon rendered from the SVG logo.
- The right-click on the tray icon no longer toggles the drop box.
- The
fatrat-tui(1)man page documents the keys from the real keymap and describes quitting correctly. - Updated translations, with all missing strings translated.
Bug fixes
Core and transfers
- Retrying a transfer no longer loses the "has been working" flag before the failure is handled.
- Moving a stopped plugin download's destination now moves the file.
- The desktop New transfer dialog falls back to the queue or home directory for an empty destination.
- Link adding was moved out of the REST handler into a shared
TransferAdder. Links that fail to initialize no longer break collecting rejected links.
BitTorrent
- The seed ratio check works for torrents with nothing downloaded.
- The External IP setting is applied as libtorrent's
announce_ip. - FatRat binds the first free port in the configured listen range.
- A failed data move is logged and the destination reverts.
- The unused IP filter loader is removed.
Scheduler and RSS
- One-time scheduler actions run once, and each minute is handled once.
- The scheduler dialog validates its input, and actions of deleted queues are dropped.
- In RSS settings, Update applies the dialog's feeds first. The minimum interval is 1 minute.
Server, REST and security
- A comma in the remote password no longer turns authentication off.
- The HTTP service no longer pretends to listen with an invalid PEM or a busy port.
PATCH /transfersis all-or-nothing, also whensetObjectfails.- 401 responses carry the standard
{error:{code, message}}body. fatrat --usercallsinitgroups()only as root, and sets a default primary group and cleans up the pidfile.- Unknown
-optionsno longer swallow the following argument. - The TUI's password file check also rejects group- or other-writable files.
genssl.shuses a privatemktempdirectory instead of fixed/tmpnames.- Raw TLS records from libcurl's debug callback are no longer logged.
- The web UI and TUI say that any user name works for the web interface.
- The systemd units use the correct settings path.
Python extensions
- Fixed the update-check default and stale restart wording.
Build and platform
- Large-file compatibility guards no longer key off an undefined
POSIX_LINUXmacro. - Fixed macOS build and test failures with optional features enabled.
Other UI
- The web UI keeps links that arrive while a transfer is being added.
- The About dialog scales its logo sensibly.
- Watch folder problems are announced to screen readers, with a readable warning colour.
Under the hood
- The web UI is upgraded to Angular 22.
- New tests cover the watch folder scanner, service and queue storage.
- The REST smoke test checks the 401 envelope and the 422 for an unrecognised upload.
