What's new in 1.79
Fxy: change the speed from inside a pattern. An Fxy row sets the speed to x frames a row and the funk speed to y, so F64 alternates rows of 6 and 4 frames and F60 is a plain speed of 6.
- In Retro, press F in the note column and type the two digits. The row shows in blue.
- In the DAW, right-click the piano roll's ruler to set, change or remove a speed change. Changes show as tags in the ruler, and clips with one get an F in the corner.
- A note sounds on through an F row. A note cannot start on one.
- The player only grows if a song uses Fxy: about 24 bytes once, plus 3 bytes for each row.
Fixes
- Retro keeps its place when you stop. Stopping with Space or F4 restarted the row numbers from the current order entry, so row 1298 showed as row 18, and F2 scrolled on from there. In songs whose channels differ in length, the view could also show the wrong pattern for a channel.
- Space no longer presses the toolbar buttons. In the DAW, after you clicked Open, Space also opened the file browser again, and after you clicked Play, Space could start the song and stop it at once.
- A note held across the top of a loop keeps its own sound on the C64. When a loop starts with a hold, slide, Fxy or note off and ends on another instrument, the note still sounding ran on the other instrument's ADSR, pulse and vibrato from the second pass on. The editor never did this, so the C64 and the editor disagreed. Optimize could create such a loop by itself.
- The editor walks the channels in the player's order. When two filter instruments trigger on the same tick, the editor now gives the filter to the same channel as the C64 does.
- The 6502 emulator's TXS instruction used the wrong register. Tunes that set their stack pointer back, such as Music Shop songs, ran into stack errors.
Smaller songs
Songs with loops can come out a few bytes smaller, with no change in sound. A loop no longer stores an instrument restore that its first note overwrites anyway. Magnificent saves 9 bytes, Airstrike 3, BellaCiao 2 and SOS 1.
