Rustidian 0.1.6 — Linux installers

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 09:31

Download the Debian/Ubuntu installer · Portable Linux archive · Checksums

Linux x86_64, Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, glibc 2.39 or newer. Download the .deb and SHA256SUMS, then run:

sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS
sudo apt install ./rustidian-linux-amd64.deb

This release fixes four everyday problems. Typing *, _, a backtick, ~ or = over a selection now wraps it (typing ** makes bold) instead of deleting it. Delete or Backspace over selected table body rows removes the rows. The palette is now an app-wide setting: a palette chosen in one vault applies in every vault, folder and file, where before each vault kept its own and a new one opened in teal. Opening a file or folder next to your default vault opens one window and loads only its own files. Existing notes and settings are retained; your current palette carries over.

Verified: 146 native checks across 18 groups; core tests; exact Debian install/upgrade/remove/purge and portable installer checks. Existing notes, recovery data and user demo edits survive. Verification run. BUILDINFO.json binds the source and executable.

Obsidian community plugins and browser-style HTML rendering remain unfinished. Full Obsidian parity is unfinished, and the startup comparison with Obsidian measures an earlier build only.

Download the Debian/Ubuntu installer · Portable Linux archive · Checksums

Linux x86_64, Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, glibc 2.39 or newer. Download the .deb and SHA256SUMS, then run:

sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS
sudo apt install ./rustidian-linux-amd64.deb

This release fixes the palette logos. Each palette (Original teal, Love Space, Elpis Gold, Signature) now shows the new stone in that palette's exact colours; in 0.1.4 the Elpis Gold stone was olive and the Signature stone too dark. The Snap Store, AppImage and Arch packages use the red Love Space stone. Nothing else changed. Existing notes and settings are retained.

Verified: 146 native checks across 18 groups; core tests; exact Debian install/upgrade/remove/purge and portable installer checks. Existing notes, recovery data and user demo edits survive. Verification run. BUILDINFO.json binds the source and executable.

Obsidian community plugins and browser-style HTML rendering remain unfinished. Full Obsidian parity is unfinished, and the startup comparison with Obsidian measures an earlier build only.

Linux x86_64, Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, glibc 2.39 or newer. Download the .deb and SHA256SUMS, then run:

sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS
sudo apt install ./rustidian-linux-amd64.deb

This release prepares Rustidian for store listings. It has a new, original logo: the previous one was an edit of another app's icon and is gone. The third-party notices now cover every crate in the build, including the licences of the editor's default fonts. The README and demo vault no longer use another app's name as a slogan; Rustidian opens Obsidian-format vaults and is independent of Obsidian. Existing notes and settings are retained.

Verified: 146 native checks across 18 groups; core tests; exact Debian install/upgrade/remove/purge and portable installer checks. Existing notes, recovery data and user demo edits survive. Verification run. BUILDINFO.json binds the source and executable.

Linux x86_64, Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, glibc 2.39 or newer. Download the .deb and SHA256SUMS, then run:

sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS
sudo apt install ./rustidian-linux-amd64.deb

This release fixes everyday vault workflows: create notes and subfolders in the clicked folder; duplicate folders with their contents; select and move multiple explorer items; reveal files and folders in the system file manager; paste or drop images into the vault; complete heading and block links; follow exact backlink mentions; and render linked-note embeds in Live Preview. Tab close menus, quick-open creation, list indentation, bracket pairing and external file changes preserve notes and drafts. Enter remains literal in plain-text files.

Verified: 115 native checks across 18 groups; core tests; exact Debian install/upgrade/remove/purge and portable installer checks. Existing notes, recovery data and user demo edits survive. Verification run. BUILDINFO.json binds the source and executable.

Obsidian community plugins and browser-style HTML rendering remain unfinished. Full Obsidian parity and a current overall performance advantage are unproven.

@MasihMoafi MasihMoafi released this 26 Oct 14:09

Rustidian 0.1.2 is available for Linux x86_64 (glibc 2.39 or newer).

Install for Debian/Ubuntu · Portable download · Checksums

  • Tables: bottom/right append controls, bounded resizing and chronological layout/text Undo.
  • Graph: compact controls, independent node dragging, Escape cancellation and per-vault preferences/camera restoration.
  • Interface: consistent compact menus, short opening transitions and sidebar fill.
  • Templates: valid imported settings survive unrelated configuration errors; setup failures open the existing Templates settings page.

After downloading, run sudo apt install ./rustidian-linux-amd64.deb. Fully quit and reopen an existing Rustidian process to activate the update. Native checks cover selected Linux X11 workflows. Existing Obsidian plugins, browser-rendered HTML, PDF and an agent tab remain unsupported. BUILDINFO.json records the exact executable and verification scope.

Download the Debian/Ubuntu installer · Portable Linux archive · Checksums

Linux x86_64, Ubuntu 24.04 or newer, glibc 2.39 or newer. Download the .deb and SHA256SUMS, then run:

sha256sum --check --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS
sudo apt install ./rustidian-linux-amd64.deb

This update adds TypeScript/TSX highlighting to code files and Markdown fences, unifies file/fence language aliases, and makes Quick-open prefer exact paths and filenames. Real edit, Save and Undo checks preserve original CRLF bytes in both themes. It retains the table bounds, chronological Undo/Redo, dialog, graph-color and palette-icon fixes from 0.1.0.

Verified: 143 native checks across 19 groups; core tests; exact Debian install/upgrade/remove/purge and portable installer checks. Existing notes, recovery data and user demo edits survive. Verification run. BUILDINFO.json binds the source and executable.

Obsidian community plugins and browser-style HTML rendering remain unfinished. Full Obsidian parity and a current overall performance advantage are unproven.

This update bounds extreme table-column dragging, adds chronological text/layout Undo and Redo, fixes queued dialog dismissal, makes graph relationship colors visible, and unifies compact dialogs and fonts. Theme icons follow the selected palette.

Verified: 129 native checks across 16 groups; core tests; exact Debian install/upgrade/remove/purge and portable installer checks. Existing notes, recovery data and user demo edits survive. Verification run. BUILDINFO.json binds the source and executable.

Rustidian v0.1.0-alpha.2 — Obsidian but fast.

Choose a tag to compare

@MasihMoafi MasihMoafi released this 25 Oct 05:19

Rustidian logo

Rustidian 0.1.0-alpha.2

A Rust-based Obsidian.

I never found a note editor I liked that felt fast. I liked Obsidian, but startup
still felt slow after several attempts to optimize it. So I started Rustidian:
a familiar Markdown notebook with a native Rust interface. I'm sharing it early,
and contributors are welcome.

This Linux alpha includes live, source and reading modes; wiki links, backlinks
and search; tasks, tables, colored highlights, callouts and native Mermaid;
daily notes, templates, bookmarks, workspaces and recovery. Global and local
graphs help explore connected notes. Existing Markdown folders are vaults;
open files and folders through the File menu or switch among recent vaults.

Graph names stay attached while panning. Under Settings → Display → Color by →
Link direction
, incoming notes are blue, outgoing notes green and reciprocal
links purple. The local graph follows the current note; the global graph follows
the hovered note. Larger dots and labels mean more visible connections.

In ten balanced warm-start pairs with 100 synthetic notes, the verified baseline
showed its complete matching note frame at a median 0.61 s, versus 3.77 s
for Obsidian 1.14.4. Both used a 1440×960 software display without community
plugins. Screenshot/OCR, resizing and input checks add overhead. This measures
the exact baseline described in the paired evidence, before this graph update; it is not a universal speed claim.

Download rustidian-linux-x86_64.tar.gz and rustidian-linux-x86_64.tar.gz.sha256 below. Check the checksum, extract it and run ./rustidian beside the demo vault. Run python3 install.py to add Rustidian to your applications menu without root. rustidian --version identifies your build for bug reports.

This update makes Rustidian the executable, desktop, crate and package name. Existing recent vaults, sessions and recovery are retained, including compatibility with an older window still running. It also brings the installed incremental Undo, exhausted-file-watcher fallback and ordinary file-link repairs to the next downloadable build.

Try a copy of your Obsidian vault with File → Open folder…, edit a note, follow a link and reopen it. No import or account is needed. Use the bug report form or workflow gap form with a small synthetic example.

This is an early alpha. Full Obsidian parity remains unfinished: Canvas, Bases,
math, parts of settings and graph behavior, broader platform support and other
workflows still need work. Existing Obsidian JavaScript plugins are unsupported.

Rust/egui developers, Markdown users, accessibility contributors and careful
testers are welcome. See CONTRIBUTING
and the coverage ledger.
Rustidian is MIT licensed and independent of Obsidian.
