Highlights

  • Windows no longer ships MySQL, HDF5, netCDF or CFITSIO client libraries from the GisInternals SDK. The Windows runtime inherited frozen prebuilt copies of these libraries from the SDK, each with known CVEs that vulnerability scanners flag even when the drivers are never used (#245, #246). They are now built from the same vcpkg manifest as Linux and macOS:
    • libmysql.dll: MySQL 8.1.0 (EOL innovation release) -> 8.0.46
    • hdf5.dll, hdf5_hl.dll: HDF5 1.12.0 -> 2.1.1
    • netcdf.dll: netCDF-C 4.8.1 -> 4.9.3
    • cfitsio.dll: CFITSIO 3.49 -> 4.6.4
    • szip.dll: now the libaec 1.1.7 SZIP-compatible build (with aec.dll), shared by HDF5 and HDF4
  • HDF5 on Windows keeps szip support, so szip-compressed HDF5 and netCDF-4 files remain readable, matching Linux and macOS
  • HDF4 (hdf.dll, mfhdf.dll, xdr.dll) still comes from the SDK, since vcpkg has no HDF4 port
  • The Windows build fails closed if any of this regresses. GDAL_USE_MYSQL, GDAL_USE_HDF5, GDAL_USE_NETCDF and GDAL_USE_CFITSIO are forced on so a resolution miss aborts the configure; the configure also fails if any HDF5, netCDF or CFITSIO path in the CMake cache points into the SDK; and after dependency collection the build asserts every replaced DLL is byte-identical to the vcpkg one
  • Linux and macOS are unaffected

Library versions

GDAL 3.13.3 and PROJ 9.8.1, both unchanged from v3.13.3.563. Shipped library changes are Windows-only and listed above. tinyxml2.dll and aec.dll are new in the Windows runtime as dependencies of netCDF-C and libaec.

Runtime requirements

Linux packages require GLIBC 2.35 or newer (Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+). This is enforced per-architecture at build time against every shipped binary.
