Scrum Documentation:

Section 1: Why and How of technical documentation

Pick at least two scrum values you want to focus on as the scrum lead for this GE and explain how you plan on fostering those values with the team.

  1. Commitment

“Team members do the right thing and work on tough problems” (What is a scrum). I want each individual to solve their own problems in some problems but also be there to aid anyone who is struggling. If someone gets stuck, I want them to use outside sources to help figure out these problems, take steps to solve it and then come to the team with questions. If they are unable to solve a problem they should be able to say, “This is what I did, this is what is not working”, and then seek advice.

  1. Courage

“Team members do the right thing and work on tough problems” (What is a scrum). I want to focus on this value to promote industry standards. I want every team member to have desirable difficulties and embrace the struggle. This will be important so that everyone understands the purpose and bigger picture of the guided exploration. I want them to come out of this assignment thinking they learned something new and they could do this activity again.

What are two habits you want to work on to be an effective scrum coach?

  1. I want to create an agenda and calendar of events that need to be completed and attended. This will promote organization and ensure that all team members understand what is expected of them.
  2. I want to check in on team members periodically on discord to ensure everyone is on the same page and see if there are any issues in the assignment that need to be tended to in order to meet the assignment standard.

Section 2: Reflect on your Tech Scrum Coach Role

Summarize in a paragraph your experience being the scrum lead.

My experience as a scrum was really easy. In general, I am exceptional at fitting the role of a leader and also the customer service side of me is always checking on how people are feeling and if I can help in any shape or form. So this was just another week where I had to stay organized, communicate, etc – that’s just any other week for me in college.

My experience of being a scrum was:

  1. Researching: reading the information on how to be a scrum
  2. preparing: I had to prepare my outline for the agenda and fill out some information on this form.
  3. Create a meeting date, location, time
  4. host the meeting, easy enough – just ask everyone questions regarding their progress and timeline
  5. check up on the team after the scrum meeting.
  6. ensure that the product goals were met by deadline

Reflect on what it was like getting your team to participate in the scrum meeting and in discord.

Getting my team to participate in the scrum meeting was extremely easy. I gave everyone a heads up on when the meeting was going to be. Everyone let me know that they would make it (via in person/discord). While at the meeting it was short, brief, and concise. I already had a template created for the questions I needed to ask everyone, so I went around and asked each person the 4 questions. If they listed any struggles, I would follow up and ask them if they had a plan or needed assistance in any form. Everyone was honest & on topic which made this procedure effortless. As far as discord, we all took some time to communicate. I put forth the effort to report meeting dates, location, and times. I also checked in on everyone the day after the scrum meeting to see how everyone’s previous day went – since they had told me what they planned to get done.

What was one of your strengths in this role and what would be a growth area for you?

One of my strengths was my organization. I was able to plan ahead of time, create an outline of the scrum meeting. Conduct it. – Thus, the team had a quick and precise scrum meeting. A growth for me could be better communication in the discord. I am in a lot of the same classes as everyone in my team, and I can speak for everyone when saying this week has been brutal and busy for everyone. In the future, even though weeks come up like this, I still need to make a better effort to communicate more frequently & check in possibly more frequently.

What would you recommend for the next scrum coach that would help them?

For the next scrum I would recommend communicating more in the discord. – Just checking up on the team always helps. This can help clear up how everyone is feeling, is there any academic activities that could be interfering with the project, does any individual need more assistance.
