Pets OS 11.2 — Preview (tested in QEMU virtual machines, not yet on real PCs)

Pets OS is an independent operating system by Fionn Mpho Mwaba: its own kernel, file system, network stack, desktop and apps, booted by its own UEFI loader. Install steps, requirements, known issues and recovery: https://shouldbe.media/pets-os/download/

• System updates without a Mac: signed, downloaded over Pets OS's own HTTPS, installed into a second slot, automatic rollback if the new system doesn't start

Pets OS 11.1 (Macs and PCs)

Pets OS 11.1 — one build for Apple silicon Macs and Intel/AMD PCs (developer preview).

• Mac (Apple silicon): open the zip, double-click "Start Pets OS.command" in the Mac folder.
• PC (UEFI): write PetsOS-11.1-PC-USB.img to a USB stick and boot from it.

New: Sonix 2.2.0 with a Spotify-style look and a new logo; one O Store; an App Installer for Pets OS apps downloaded from websites; Samples Loop Studio as a real Pets OS app in O Store (live sound, opens .slsproject, exports WAV); experimental Windows programs on PCs (small console .exe programs; not big apps like FL Studio); Rest is the file explorer and the Dock's first icon (it stays put), the App Drawer has its own icon next to the Trash, a new Pets OS comes with just Pen, Moments, Sonix and Guide (every other app is in O Store, offline); the menu bar's right end works like a Mac's (battery, Wi-Fi, Spotlight, Control Centre, date and time), the x86-64 port in the same build, Sonix as the Dock's Music app, My Apps scrolling/paging, UEFI disk image. Fixes: banners no longer cover open panels; centred setup screens; menus at the top left leave no shadow behind when clicked fast.

Pets OS 11 for computers (arm64)

Bootable Pets OS 11 disk image for computers, 64-bit ARM.

Apple silicon Mac: unzip, then double-click Start Pets OS.command (the first time: right-click › Open). QEMU and its startup firmware are included, so there's nothing else to install. Needs about 2.5 GB free once unzipped.

Intel Macs, Windows and Linux: install QEMU first, then run start-pets-os.sh or start-pets-os.bat (not yet tested).

Milo 0.2.1
