v0.3.7
v0.3.7 - security update and editor fixes
Security:
- TLS stack updated (rustls 0.23.46, rustls-webpki 0.103.16,
webpki-roots 1.0.11) for RUSTSEC-2026-0346, 0347, 0348, 0349, 0381
and 0382. It carries every HTTPS request gitoui makes: the GitHub
API and login, avatars and the update check.
Fixes:
- The comment and compose editors wrap long lines instead of running
past the frame. The cursor, Up/Down, scrolling and clicks follow the
wrapped rows. - Shift+R and Shift+I say what is missing (GitHub login or a GitHub
remote) instead of doing nothing (#72). - Links open with
openon macOS, where gitoui only tried xdg-open,
and the launcher's output no longer draws over the interface.
Dependencies:
- resvg 0.49, umbra 0.6, arboard 3.7.0, pulldown-cmark 0.13.6.
Docs:
- The site moved to gitoui.nayji7.dev; the old address redirects.

v0.3.6
v0.3.6 - auto-refresh follows cd
After changing repository with d (cd), gitoui kept watching the
previous repository, so commits, checkouts and fetches made from
another terminal no longer refreshed the view. The watcher now
follows the repository you cd into.
What's Changed
- chore(docs-deps)(deps): bump astro from 7.3.5 to 7.3.8 in /docs in the npm-minor-patch group across 1 directory by @dependabot[bot] in #64
- chore(deps)(deps): bump rstest from 0.26.1 to 0.27.0 by @dependabot[bot] in #68

v0.3.5
v0.3.5 - reliable commit cache
Fixes:
- The commit cache is reused only when it matches
git logexactly:
HEAD, every branch, remote-tracking branch and tag, the stashes and
the sort order are fingerprinted. Before, a fetch or a deleted remote
branch combined with a new commit could leave the cache with missing,
stale or misordered commits, which misaligned the graph with the list
until the cache was cleared by hand. Caches written by older versions
are rebuilt once, automatically. - Two gitoui instances (or a reload during a background load) writing
the cache at the same time can no longer corrupt it. - A damaged cache file no longer crashes gitoui: it is dropped and
rebuilt. - Startup no longer runs
git rev-list --countover the whole history
(about 0.35 s on a 350k-commit repository).
Docs:
- New mobile intro on the home page.

v0.3.4
v0.3.4 - gitoui --why, installer fixes
New:
gitoui --why: the short answer, with a little animation in a terminal.
Fixes:
- install.sh installs the static musl binaries on Linux. The glibc build
needed glibc 2.39: it failed to start on Debian 11 / Ubuntu 20.04 and
Alpine, and warned on every launch on Debian 12 / Ubuntu 22.04 / RHEL 9. - install.sh really verifies the archive checksum now (the check was
silently skipped), and refuses to install when the archive is missing
from checksum.txt. checksum.txt now lists bare file names. - The startup update check looks for the musl archive on Linux.
Docs:
- The FAQ lists every network request gitoui makes.
- Terminal compatibility table fixed,
--graph-rendererinstead of the
removed--protocol, exact uninstall paths.

gitoui film
Promo film hosted for the docs site. Not a gitoui release.
v0.3.3
v0.3.3 - Homebrew, dependency updates
New:
- Install with Homebrew on macOS and Linux:
brew install nayji7/tap/gitoui
Homebrew installs are recognised: gitoui no longer offers to update
itself andgitoui --updatepoints tobrew upgrade gitoui.
Fixes:
- The recent-directories list (
dto change directory) could be read
while half-written and come back empty. It is now written atomically.
Maintenance:
- Rust dependency updates (clap, chrono, regex, serde, and more).
- Documentation site moved to Astro 7 and Starlight 0.42, with
security updates for its build dependencies.

v0.3.2
v0.3.2 - Graph fix, Ptyxis help screen, security updates
Fixes:
- Commit graph no longer breaks after pulling a merged pull request.
The on-disk cache could store commits twice when a remote branch was
ahead of your local branch, which shifted graph rows: missing merge
dots, extra lanes, colors from nowhere. Affected caches are rebuilt
automatically on first launch. gitoui --helpand the other command-line screens now show a text
logo in terminals without image support (Ptyxis, GNOME Terminal,
Tilix). They used to print nothing at all.- Documentation links that led to a 404 on the website.
Security:
- Dependency updates for RUSTSEC advisories in rustls, h2,
crossbeam-epoch, quick-xml, lru and quinn-proto.

v0.3.1
v0.3.1 - ASCII fallback, real Sixel, unified renderer
New features:
- ASCII graph renderer: Unicode box-drawing characters for terminals
without image protocol support. Works everywhere. - Real Sixel encoding via icy_sixel (no longer an iTerm2 alias)
- Unified "Renderer" config: replaces protocol + graph_render with a
single graph_renderer field (auto/ascii/kitty/iterm/kitty-unicode/sixel) - Auto-detect falls back to ASCII when no image protocol is found
- Text brand fallback in ASCII mode (styled G + gitoui wordmark)
Breaking changes:
- Config field "protocol" removed, replaced by "graph_renderer"
(old configs are migrated silently) - Default graph_style changed from "rounded" to "smooth"
- CLI flag --protocol replaced by --graph-renderer
Improvements:
- Graph colors consistent across all styles (Smooth, Rounded, Angular)
and all renderers (Image, ASCII) - Uncommitted lane rendered in gray in ASCII mode
- Graph Width (Single/Double) affects ASCII lane spacing
- Config view: "Renderer" under Theme, avatars auto-disabled in ASCII
- Auto-resolved hints in config details panel
- Recommended Nerd Font section in docs

v0.3.0
v0.3.0 - Streaming pipeline & huge repo support
The commit loading pipeline has been completely rewritten for
performance and scalability. gitoui now handles repositories with
hundreds of thousands of commits (rust-lang/rust, Linux kernel)
without freezing or running out of memory.
What's new:
- Commits stream in progressively with a live count indicator
- 5x lighter commit metadata (full details fetched on demand inspired by gitui)
- On-disk cache (v4) loads in milliseconds on subsequent launches
- Syntax highlighting loads in the background, not blocking startup
- Graph column width adapts after background topology swap
- cd between repos properly isolates streaming events
- cd popup: animated spinner, no graph bleed-through, clean resize
Breaking changes:
- Cache v4 (auto-rebuilt on first launch)
- CommitSummary replaces full Commit in the streaming path
(detail view fetches body on demand, no user-visible change)
