OpenFamily speaks German, lets a closed server still welcome the people you invite, sorts chores by room, and shows every time the way your region writes it. Security updates come along.
German
The interface is available in German, the seventh language, including the e-mails, reminders and notifications the server sends. Contributed by @sawmans (#123). The same change fixes the family import, which dropped a Spanish member's language preference.
Invitation-only servers
With sign-ups closed (REGISTRATION_ENABLED=false), an invitation from the Family page, by link or by e-mail, now gets the invited person in. Before, the only way was to reopen sign-ups for a moment. The login page also asks the server whether sign-ups are open, so the published images and the Android app hide "Sign up" on a closed server without a rebuild. Asked for by @adamjgale (#111).
Tasks
- Categories that each family defines for itself in Settings, by room or by kind of chore, with a filter in the task view. Renaming a category follows the tasks. Asked for by @nilsit-byte (#119).
- Quarterly and every-four-months frequencies, and a filter by frequency.
- Filters are kept per account on the device, and a child account linked to a member profile starts on their own tasks. On a shared tablet, children no longer see everyone's chores after every visit. Reported by @vanders87 (#116).
One clock style per region
The dashboard could show an appointment as "02:30 PM" next to a planning entry at "14:30". Every screen now formats times through one helper that follows the member's region, and post dates follow the app language rather than the browser. Reported with a complete list by @Valiant55 (#120).
Home Assistant
The configured to-do list is synced even when Home Assistant's legacy shopping list is still loaded, which it is on most installs. Before, the sync succeeded while importing nothing. The "Test" button now checks the entity you typed. By @sawmans (#124).
Fixes
- Opening the app offline, on flaky Wi-Fi, or reloading while the session check was in flight no longer signs the user out.
Security
Dependency updates with published advisories: body-parser (denial of service through a compressed request body), nodemailer (address parsing), ip-address (used by the login rate limit), proxy-addr (address spoofing behind a proxy; OpenFamily trusts one hop, so it was not exposed), Capacitor for the Android app (remote content at the app origin), and build-time tools (postcss-selector-parser, uuid, fast-uri, serialize-javascript, vite, shell-quote, source-map-js). An unused zod dependency was removed.
Upgrading
- One migration adds the task category column; it runs by itself at startup.
- No new setting. If you are coming from 1.7.x, read the 1.8.0 notes, in particular
TZ. - Docker images are built faster now: the build stages run natively instead of under emulation.
Ready-made images: ghcr.io/nexaflowfrance/openfamily-server:1.9.0 and ghcr.io/nexaflowfrance/openfamily-client:1.9.0, for amd64 and arm64.
