YAPF 1.0.0

The first stable version of YAPF: a lossless image format built for single-core decode speed.

  • 5–12× faster decoding than PNG (stb_image) on one core; a 4K image decodes in about 6–7 ms.
  • Smaller than PNG on UI, icons and screenshots; 20–50 % larger on photos and textures.
  • SIMD on by default (SSSE3 with runtime detection on x86, NEON on ARM64), mipmaps, GPU format hints, random access to 64×64 tiles.
  • Two C99 files, no dependencies — plus a command-line tool, bindings for 10 languages and plugins.

Tested

  • Linux x64, Windows x64 (run under Wine) and Linux ARM64 (run under qemu): full test suite, with and without SIMD, plus sanitizers and fuzzing.
  • GIMP 3.0.8 and Blender 5.1: tested in the real applications.
  • Language bindings (C, C++, Python, C#, Rust, Go, Java, Zig, Lua, JavaScript/TypeScript): every example runs.

Not yet tested

  • macOS builds are cross-compiled and have not been run on a Mac; Windows ARM64 is built only.
  • Photoshop scripts are only syntax-checked; VS Code and Figma plugins were tested in a browser engine but not inside the applications; the KDE thumbnailer was tested through KDE's plugin loader, not in a running Dolphin.

Reports from anyone trying these are very welcome.
