ACNHRecomp 0.8.0: Amiibo without key files, a new launcher, 5.1 audio and many fixes

Important

You need ACNHRecomp-Importer to play. It turns your own copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons into the game folder ACNHRecomp plays. ACNHRecomp-Importer is available on our Discord: discord.gg/VJW9Dtdu7a

Warning

Work in progress, made by fans: expect bugs. Back up your saves (the user folder inside your game folder) and report what you find.

Caution

Android: back up before you update. This APK is signed with a new key, so it won't install over 0.7.0: you must uninstall the old app first. Uninstalling deletes everything in Android/data/io.github.acnhrecomp. If your game folder is there, that includes your saves.

  1. Copy the user folder out of your game folder to somewhere else, such as your computer. If the folder is in Android/data/io.github.acnhrecomp, move the whole game folder (for example to ACNH on the memory card).
  2. Uninstall the old app, install this APK, and choose the game folder again.

A game folder elsewhere isn't touched by uninstalling. You can also stay on 0.7.0 for now. This APK was built and checked, but not played on a phone before release, so please report what you find.

What's new

  • Amiibo no longer needs a key file (thanks to erickgodev and SirOMGitsYOU): Settings > Amiibo loads a .bin for the Nook Stop using its unencrypted fields. Tested on Windows.
  • Launcher: a redesigned home page, save profiles as tiles, a mod manager with a card grid, autostart with a countdown, and a credits page.
  • 5.1 surround audio output.
  • Clearer video settings: the less common options are now behind an Advanced toggle.
  • Android: edit the on-screen controls' layout (#42), choose the GPU driver or load a custom one (#47), the game follows the phone's language (#61), and Chinese, Japanese and Korean text in the settings menu no longer turns into question marks (#59).

Fixes

  • Windows + AMD: the present pass is on by default, against the black blocks at the top of the picture (#71).
  • Samsung Xclipse: a larger upload ring, against glitched textures (#50).
  • Intel on Windows: changes aimed at the wrong shading on older GPUs (#49). Not confirmed yet, so please tell us how it looks.
  • VSync on 75, 144 and 165 Hz displays: the game keeps its proper pace.
  • Game folders: a RomFS packed as romfs.pak is accepted (#48).
  • CPUs without AVX2: the launcher now explains why the game can't run (#46).

Known issue

  • Shooting a balloon at 60 FPS can still crash the game (#58). Switch to 30 FPS for balloons. A probable fix is in this source code, but it only takes effect with a future Importer version and a new import.
