What's new
- Upscaling: nine GPU methods to enlarge a smaller video to the window, from MetalFX, FSR and NIS to small neural networks (ArtCNN, Anime4K, FSRCNNX). New Upscaling panel and Settings pane, with a sharpness slider, an output size cap and a badge naming the active method. FSRCNNX (LGPL-3.0) is downloaded only after you accept its licence.
- Compare Before and After: the picture split down the middle, without SDR to HDR, upscaling or motion interpolation on the left, with them on the right.
- Watch: Browse by Genre at the top, more collections from The Edit, Favorites in their own sidebar category, and a More Like This shelf on every title page.
- Torrent loading: the buffer bar fills in one continuous motion.
Fixes
- Seeking back into already downloaded torrent data plays at once, even while an earlier seek waits for data.
- Quit no longer hangs while a video closes; a stuck video output can no longer freeze the app on zoom, crop, aspect ratio or video shortcuts. Quit exits after 15 s if teardown is still running.
- Crash on some web videos (null fields from yt-dlp) fixed; Watch trailers play through the web video resolver; YouTube sign-in keeps regional Google domains.
- Title bar: back and play queue buttons stay inside the bar.
Install and first launch
- Open the disk image and drag MacLC to Applications.
- Open MacLC once. macOS says it could not verify MacLC is free of malware: click Done.
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to Security and click Open Anyway next to "MacLC was blocked…", then confirm with your password or Touch ID. Only needed once.
Why this step? macOS opens downloaded apps without asking only when they are signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, which requires a paid Apple Developer Program membership (99 USD a year). MacLC is a free, open-source project: it is signed ad hoc, which proves the files were not altered since the build but does not identify the author to Apple. macOS therefore asks you to confirm once. It does not mean the app is damaged or unsafe; the source is public and the SHA-256 of the disk image is below. The disk image contains the same explanation in English and French, and the README has the details (Terminal alternative included).
If macOS ever says MacLC "is damaged", the download is incomplete: download it again and compare the SHA-256.

macOS 26 or later, Apple Silicon. Watch, add-ons and YouTube need an internet connection. Optional: yt-dlp for the YouTube section and File › Open Web Video (brew install yt-dlp, kept up to date), SVP 4 Mac for the SVP interpolation engine.
