PCS 0.9.139
This release brings together the changes since PCS 0.9.121: an optional journal for PCS's own developing perspective, guided setup, expanded provider tools, improvements to memory saving, correction and recall, and a Continuity Map that reads Local memory observation by observation.
The release includes the complete Windows x64 application and matching editable source.
PCS Perspective
PCS Perspective adds a separate space in the encrypted vault for PCS-authored interests, reflections and open questions, alongside your own saved continuity.
- Inspect its records, supporting references, uncertainty, model authorship and revision history.
- Explore connections in a dedicated Perspective Map.
- Carry current perspectives and unfinished inquiries between supported models.
- Optionally allow bounded exploration during an active conversation.
Perspective starts off and can be configured before starting a conversation. Optional focused thinking pauses show when microphone input is off, provide Return to conversation, and now have a sound cue that follows voice volume and mute settings. Independent exploration uses the selected Preparation model; it does not independently browse the web or read Materials.
Easier setup and navigation
- A four-step setup guide covers Workspace, Connection, Sharing and Review.
- The welcome screen offers clearer starting choices and a fictional example you can explore without adding records to your vault.
- A Settings task finder helps locate common controls while preserving unsaved edits.
- Materials has a more compact layout, file-format tiles, reading-time information and highlighted passage search.
Expanded Claude and ChatGPT tools
Claude API and Sign in with ChatGPT gain native paths for Preparation, notebook drafting and organization, PCS Perspective, supported image input, web lookup and Wikipedia Study. Availability depends on the selected model, account and sharing settings.
Feature coverage still varies by route: native embedding maintenance is not available through Claude, ChatGPT or Meta.
Follow conversation and Follow memory retain the selected provider and model. ChatGPT sign-in remains separate from OpenAI API billing. Usage-limit messages better distinguish temporary throttling, exhausted allowances and unavailable usage information.
Local helper support also expands for Study, web-material saving, memory-thread suggestions and supported visual observations. Model capabilities and available context still apply. Preparation, memory review and Perspective exploration can make additional model requests and incur provider charges.
Memory saving, correction and recall
- Explicit Remember requests receive a separate request check, reducing reliance on the conversation model choosing a save tool. PCS result cards distinguish confirmed saves, unsuccessful requests and unchanged records.
- Provider request formats and review handling have been repaired across several routes. Local fixes address rejected new accounts and cases where a requested save could block later automatic processing.
- Recall can recover original conversation passages behind saved accounts, including correction evidence. Paging and delivery-budget repairs address cases where memory reads exhausted the available space before a reply.
- Recalled material more clearly identifies user and assistant speech, model-written and owner-edited accounts, and the meaning of recorded timestamps.
- Reviewed rebuilds of optional cloud memory search use complete saved content within supported limits. Memory formation can combine permitted semantic matches with word search; oversized records are reported.
- Correction screens now explain that saving your wording and rebuilding semantic search are separate operations. Saved corrections retain their history and current status across reopening.
- Local's startup prompt keeps your saved context alongside the longest Companion direction: Local receives a shorter wording of the conversation guidance with the same rules.
- Additional fixes address duplicate no-change revisions, misleading pending-save cues, provider reply completion and Google session renewal.
AI-generated memories and reviews remain fallible. PCS provides inspection, original sources and correction controls; important interpretations should still be checked.
Continuity Map for Local memory
Local memory keeps one account per subject and adds each later observation to it as a statement. The Map used to count accounts, so on a Local vault its default view could show no themes at all, and its wording view linked unrelated subjects through stock phrases and save dates.
- Each current statement in a Local account now counts as one observation. Themes are sized by their observations, and the inspector shows, for example, "27 observations in 1 current record".
- People, places and projects named in a Local account's statements become linked themes. A name that appears in two accounts connects them.
- Themes from now starts on Labels and repeated wording, and Size themes by offers Observations. Themes found in a single record is now Themes found only once. A saved label names its constellation.
- Save dates, months, weekdays and filler such as "the assistant's" no longer become themes.
- The startup list of saved subjects, which cloud models receive and Local uses to decide when to look something up, now names those subjects instead of statement phrasing.
- Map settings no longer open under the sidebar on narrower windows.
On a recorded 15-account fictional Local vault, the default Map went from 0 themes to 50 themes and 73 connections. Names are found by capital letters, so a name written in lowercase is missed, and a word that opens a sentence can occasionally be taken as a name. Accounts that share no saved label or name stay separate. Records saved through cloud memory routes still count once each.
Upgrading from 0.9.121
- Save your work, choose Quit PCS, and wait for shutdown.
- Back up the entire stopped data folder, including any custom data directory. Copy original Materials separately if stored elsewhere.
- Extract the complete Windows ZIP into a new writable folder. Follow the included Backup & restore guide to copy or restore your existing data without merging data folders.
- Open Start PCS.exe, unlock with your existing passphrase and check your records. Keep the previous installation and backup while checking the update.
- If you used Index the whole archive in Map settings, choose it again. Until then the Map reads up to 1,500 memories directly.
First launch installs the bundled Python runtime and pinned dependencies offline. Optional local AI models, speech packs and inference runtimes remain separate Settings downloads.
Original Materials files are not encrypted by the vault; protect their backups accordingly.
Some newly saved features raise the vault's minimum supported PCS version. Perspective requires 0.9.122; newer native-provider records and Local research require 0.9.126; the newer cloud search index requires 0.9.130; and native Claude/ChatGPT memory-thread suggestions require 0.9.134. 0.9.139 adds no new requirement. Opening the vault alone does not activate these requirements. Keep a backup from before using these features if you need to return to 0.9.121. The included vault compatibility guide lists the details.
