Not confirmed on hardware: every layout of the issue #5 fixes (checked as PC renders and on the OSPI radio), News with custom feeds or editions other than Brazil, and the English/Spanish versions of the new texts.
What's new in r30C
1. News screen
Menu → News. Headlines from Google News for the country you choose (or from your own RSS/Atom feed), shown in a TV-style screen with an animated search while the headlines load.

Images are PC renders of the screen design (the real radio uses your colour theme).
- Rotate the encoder to move between headlines.
- Short press (hold the button briefly, about half a second) opens a QR code window; a quick click closes it. A very long press turns the display off, as always.
- Nothing runs in the background: headlines are fetched only while the News screen is open, and the QR code is generated only when you open it.
- Choose the country/edition (or paste your own feed address) on the web News page or in the radio menu.
2. Reading the article on your phone — the QR code can be hard to scan
Google News links are long, and a long address makes a dense QR code on a small 320×170 screen. Tips:
- Use the phone camera in macro / close-up mode and hold it a little closer. This worked on an iPhone 17 Pro and a Motorola Edge 50 Fusion. On an entry-level phone (Moto E13) it also worked, but took longer.
- If it still does not read, open the article from the web page instead: the radio's web interface has a News page that lists the current headlines with clickable links (and the length of each address). Tap a headline to open the article. This always works, whatever the phone.
- Addresses up to 1000 characters are supported; the web list shows each length.
3. Fixes from issue #5 (thanks, Dave)
- Station and EiBi names scroll inside their field instead of overlapping other information (Cockpit, Cessna, Analog and the new layouts).
- The SQL / MUTE chips and the Cockpit STBY label no longer collide with the Wi-Fi/battery banner or with each other.
- The weather summary on the web Status page follows the page language.
4. Language review (PT / EN / ES)
The original menu, option values, pop-ups, status lines, About screen, RDS program types, the Cockpit weather card, dates and the web page messages are now available in Portuguese, English and Spanish. Change it in Settings → Language (radio) or Config → Language (browser).
Notes
- Google News feeds use an unofficial URL format; the publishers' terms apply. No key needed.
- Weather: Open-Meteo (non-commercial). Rain radar: RainViewer (personal/educational).
- Free firmware: no donations, no sponsorship.

r30B = r30A + fixes and polish. The radio tunes, connects and translates as before. What is new is how it looks and how you control it: icon menus, new main-screen layouts, a dedicated Scan screen for every layout, a new web Control tab, the rain radar in the new look and the OpenStreetMap map out of the box (no key needed). The original look is still the default — you opt in. If you already run r30A, this release fixes the issues reported on it (see below).

How to update
- Back up first (web UI → Backup → export; leave "include Wi-Fi/keys" off if you will share the file).
⚠️ Do not use the radio's online "Update → Install" for this mod. It checks the original project's releases (not this one), so it says "Already up to date" and, if the original project publishes a newer version, it would install the original firmware over the mod. Always use Manual upload.
- Open the radio's IP in a browser → Update → Manual upload → pick the
*-ota.binof your variant. - Wait for the reboot; don't power off while writing.
- To try the new look: Menu → Visual → Menu style → Carousel or Grid. To go back: choose Original.
Limits & licences
- OpenStreetMap tiles are a free community service with a usage policy (identifiable User-Agent, attribution, no heavy use). Access may be blocked without notice. You can set another tile source in Location.
- Open-Meteo is free for non-commercial use only; RainViewer free API is for personal/educational use; adsb.lol, NOAA, OpenStreetMap, Coinbase and Frankfurter keep their own terms (
AVISOS-DE-TERCEIROS.md). - No Wi-Fi credentials or API keys are included in the binaries or source.
- When reporting a problem, include the Last reset line from the Status page and any on-screen message.

r30B = r30A + correções e acabamento. O rádio sintoniza, conecta e traduz como antes. O que muda é o visual e o controle: menus de ícones, layouts novos, uma tela de Scan própria para cada layout, a nova aba web Control, o radar de chuva no visual novo e o mapa OpenStreetMap já configurado (sem chave). O visual original continua sendo o padrão — você escolhe se quer o novo.
Novidades desde a r30A
- Scan para todos os layouts novos: gráfico grande com frequência, RSSI, SNR, escala e o pico mais forte, com fundo e cores próprios em cada layout (Neo Analog, Neo S-Meter, Vintage, Clock, Memories, Minimal, VFD, LCD, Neon e também Cockpit, Analog e Avionics). Os layouts Default e S-Meter mantêm o gráfico clássico.
- Cursor sublinhado no dígito da frequência nos layouts novos; avisos MUTED/SQ sem sobreposição; nomes de estação longos rolam; mensagens de status com fundo em todos os layouts.
- Menus sobre os layouts originais: a barra lateral não cobre mais os ícones e a caixa de informação não aparece mais no meio da tela.
- Página web: aba Control reorganizada (tela do rádio fixa no topo, botões do encoder: girar ◀ ▶, clique e pressão curta, como pediu o G8PTN), textos novos em PT/EN/ES.
- Radar de chuva de volta como última página do Clima no visual novo (clique do encoder alterna o zoom).
- Mapa: OpenStreetMap como padrão (sem chave); CARTO removido; atribuição na tela e em About; configurações antigas do CARTO são migradas.
- Atualização online desativada neste mod (use Manual upload), para nunca instalar o firmware original por cima.
- Problema conhecido: o modo Bluetooth "Ad hoc" pode fazer a página web parar de responder em alguns rádios (relato do G8PTN). A causa ainda não foi encontrada. Alternativas: USB, porta serial Ad hoc ou desligar o Bluetooth. Se acontecer com você, envie os números de heap da página Status com o Bluetooth ligado e desligado.
- Correções (issue #3): a página web Location mostra na hora os valores salvos; a tela Flights sem mapa segue a configuração Background.
- Fora desta versão: opção de velocidade da CPU; japonês e chinês.
Como atualizar: *-ota.bin da sua variante. Para usar o visual novo: Menu → Visual → Menu style → Carrossel ou Grade; para voltar: Original.

The pictures below are renders made on a PC with the same drawing code as the firmware (not photos of the radio). Real photos may differ slightly in colour.
The CPU stays at the original 80 MHz; the new graphics were optimised for it (icons are cached, lighter anti-aliasing on small icons, calmer animation rate). How smooth it feels on your radio is the main thing to report.
What's new (and what each thing does)
Menu style — Visual → Menu style

What was checked on the OSPI radio: web UI pages (Control, Memory, Finance, Backup, Config, Update, Patches), the Analog layout (live mirror on the Control tab), and the Weather (now / days / hours / METAR / rain radar), Flights (list + detail) and Finance screens.
r30 (languages, euro, translated web pages) was tested by PV2KSM on the OSPI radio: OK. Not yet confirmed on real hardware: the Cockpit and Avionics layouts (only checked as PC renders), full-flash "merged" images, backup import.
Known: with a weak battery the radio can reboot while Wi-Fi is on (charge it or turn Wi-Fi off). A user reported ~170 mA draw with Wi-Fi enabled; the reboot depends on the hardware, worse with a weak 3V3 regulator.
Known: the flights service occasionally reported TLS erro (-1) on the Services screen (retries work).
What's new
- r30: languages — English (default on a fresh install), Portuguese and Spanish on the Flights, Weather, Finance, Network, METAR and rain-radar screens and on the whole web interface. Change it in Settings → Language (radio) or Config → Language (browser). Full manuals in EN/PT/ES: docs/pv2ksm.
- r30: Finance now shows US dollar, euro and Bitcoin.
- UI layouts (Settings → UI Layout / Theme): Cockpit (airliner radio panel, ACTIVE/STANDBY), Analog (tuning scale with red pointer + analog S/SNR dials), Avionics (GA-radio look, red 7-segment LED).
- Flights: adsb.lol tracker with map background (CARTO/OSM, your own key) and nearby airports.
- Weather: now, next days, next hours, METAR, rain radar (Open-Meteo, aviationweather.gov, RainViewer). Fetched only while the Weather screen is open.
- Finance: USD, EUR and Bitcoin in your local currency (Coinbase / Frankfurter-ECB).
- Web UI: live radio screen on the Control tab, Backup export/import, Location (ICAO or lat/lon), Finance, Status with "you are tuned to" + RDS.
- Stability: network tasks on core 1, Wi-Fi power-save off, "Last reset" diagnostic.

O que cada coisa faz
- Menu → Visual → Menu style: Original (padrão, visual da r30), Carrossel (menus em tela cheia com um ícone grande no centro) ou Grade (8 ícones por página). Carrossel/Grade ligam o visual novo: editores no mesmo estilo, aviso centralizado, Finanças/Rede/Clima redesenhados (sem a página do radar de chuva, que continua no visual Original).
- Novo menu Visual (antes de Configurações): UI Layout (escolhe a tela principal, com prévia ao fundo), Theme (temas de cor originais), Accent (cor principal), Text color (12 cores de texto), Background (5 fundos), Menu color e Menu style. Tema, UI Layout e cores saíram de Configurações.
- 9 layouts novos: Neo Analog, Neo S-Meter, Vintage, Clock, Memories (memórias como marcadores), Minimal, VFD, LCD e Neon.
- Idioma: nomes e títulos dos menus Carrossel/Grade seguem Configurações → Idioma (PT/EN/ES, sem acentos). Os seletores da página web também foram traduzidos.
- Página web (Config): novos seletores de cor de destaque, cor do texto, fundo, cor do menu e estilo do menu.
- Correções (issue #3, obrigado G8PTN): a página web Location agora mostra na hora os valores de Show map / Map style salvos; a tela Flights sem mapa segue a configuração Background em vez de ficar sempre preta.

Language
The names and titles in the Carousel and Grid menus now follow Settings → Language (Portuguese, English, Spanish). Texts are ASCII (no accents), like the other translated screens. The web page selectors are translated too. Icons are drawings, so they are the same in every language.

Flash only the file for your own variant (the web updater refuses the wrong one). Please report results for QSPI / LilyGO in Issues.
What was checked on the OSPI radio: web UI pages (Control, Memory, Finance, Backup, Config, Update, Patches), the Analog layout (live mirror on the Control tab), and the Weather (now / days / hours / METAR / rain radar), Flights (list + detail) and Finance screens.
Not yet confirmed on real hardware: the Cockpit and Avionics layouts (only checked as PC renders), full-flash "merged" images, backup import.
Known: the flights service occasionally reported TLS erro (-1) on the Services screen (retries work).
Known: with a weak battery the radio can reboot while Wi-Fi is on (charge it or turn Wi-Fi off). A user reported ~170 mA draw with Wi-Fi enabled; the reboot depends on the hardware, worse with a weak 3V3 regulator.
What's new
- UI layouts (Settings → UI Layout / Theme): Cockpit (airliner radio panel, ACTIVE/STANDBY), Analog (tuning scale with red pointer + analog S/SNR dials), Avionics (GA-radio look, red 7-segment LED).
- Flights: adsb.lol tracker with map background (CARTO/OSM, your own key) and nearby airports.
- Weather: now, next days, next hours, METAR, rain radar (Open-Meteo, aviationweather.gov, RainViewer). Fetched only while the Weather screen is open.
- Finance: USD and Bitcoin in your local currency (Coinbase / Frankfurter-ECB).
- Web UI: live radio screen on the Control tab, Backup export/import, Location (ICAO or lat/lon), Finance, Status with "you are tuned to" + RDS.
- Stability: network tasks on core 1, Wi-Fi power-save off, "Last reset" diagnostic.

How to update
- Back up first (web UI → Backup → export; leave "include Wi-Fi/keys" off if you will share the file).
- Open the radio's IP in a browser → Update → Manual upload → pick the
*-ota.binof your variant. - Wait for the reboot; don't power off while writing.
Limits & licences
- Open-Meteo is free for non-commercial use only; RainViewer free API is for personal/educational use; adsb.lol, NOAA, CARTO/OSM, Coinbase and Frankfurter keep their own terms. Don't use this firmware in a commercial product without checking them (
AVISOS-DE-TERCEIROS.md). - No Wi-Fi credentials or API keys are included in the binaries or source; your map key and Wi-Fi stay in your radio's memory.
- When reporting a problem, include the Last reset line from the Status page and any on-screen message.
