DECKARD 0.4.1: adds the Maschine+.

Maschine+

  • DECKARD can now drive a Maschine+ in controller mode, the same way it drives an MK3: pads, buttons, knobs, lights and both screens. This hasn't been tested on a Maschine+ yet, so reports are very welcome on #15.
  • On Windows, the screens may still stay dark. An earlier attempt to use WinUSB on a Maschine+'s screens failed to start, and this release may hit the same problem.
  • On Linux, the udev rules now cover the Maschine+. Package installs get the updated rules.

Windows: changing the screens' driver

  • DECKARD now checks that WinUSB actually started on the screens, on both the Maschine+ and the MK3. If it didn't, NI's driver goes back on and DECKARD shows an error.

Interface

  • The screens dialog and Preferences ▸ Hardware now say "controller" rather than "MK3", and the status line names the model that connected.

0.4.0

@summitt summitt released this 05 Nov 04:27

DECKARD 0.4.0: everything since 0.3.0.

Windows

  • A new installer, DECKARD-<version>-windows-x64-setup.exe, sits beside the zip. It installs for the current user with no administrator approval, and adds a Start menu entry, an uninstaller and an optional desktop shortcut. .mxprj projects can open with DECKARD through Open with.
  • The Maschine MK3's screens now work on Windows. NI's driver keeps them from DECKARD, so DECKARD asks to switch just the screens to Windows' WinUSB driver, with administrator approval. Maschine can't use the screens until you give them back in Preferences ▸ Hardware.

Library and samples

  • Expansion samples are found in your installed libraries, including Public Documents, even when the project was saved on another machine. Play reports how many sampler zones couldn't be found.
  • The library has a Refresh button, so you can scan a newly installed expansion without restarting.
  • The Files tab takes a typed or pasted folder path.
  • Drop a sample on a group row to load it onto that group's focused pad, or its first pad if another group is focused.
  • Pads light when their sound holds sampler zones, including sounds with no plug-in slot or name.

LFOs and interface

  • The LFO picture follows the rate. Faster rates show more waves. Rates slower than 1/4 or 1 Hz keep two whole waves, with time lines behind them showing how long the waves take.
  • A trigger no longer reshapes the LFO picture's first cycle.
  • The sound module's title stays put when you change pages.

Project

  • DECKARD is now licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2.
  • A Code of Conduct has been added.
  • mise install now sets up a Windows development machine.
  • CI runs every crate's tests, even after one fails.

Thanks to diamond-one for the library, sample, pad, title and LFO work.

Not fully tried yet

The installer's wizard pages, opening a project through Open with, and clicking through the MK3 screens dialog on Windows. Reports welcome.

0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@summitt summitt released this 03 Nov 07:05
35601ea

DECKARD 0.3.0: everything since 0.2.0.

Plug-ins

  • Audio Units are hosted on macOS.
  • Windows: fixes Dexed being listed as a VST3 but failing to load.

Sound

  • Snare Breaker and the other Snare engines sound closer to Maschine's.
  • Sampler: the loop crossfade works the way Maschine's does.

Sampler editing

  • Zoom with the bottom scroll bar, as in the Pattern Editor.
  • Values are shown in samples, not seconds.
  • Play start is separate from loop start.
  • The waveform follows the zone of the note you play, in preview and in sample edit.

Scenes

  • Right-click a scene to give it its own tempo. The tab gets a metronome icon and the header shows the tempo in effect.
  • Change scene and section over MIDI, for controllers already set up for Maschine.

Launchpad Pro MK3

  • Queued patterns flash while the playhead keeps moving.
  • Left and Right also scroll DECKARD's scene tabs.
  • Session pads no longer change the focused group or sound, so you can switch a drum pattern while playing keys. In the focused group, the focused pattern still follows the pad.

Maschine MK3

  • SHIFT + STEP opens a step grid for pad, keyboard and chord modes.
  • The Mixer's jog wheel turns level; pressing it toggles to pan.
  • The polysynth's filter knobs turn smoothly.
  • Select, Mute, Solo and Erase pads no longer play the sound.

Interface

  • Double-click a parameter to type a value.
  • Drag the divider to resize the area below the pattern view.
  • More space between adjacent notes, on screen and on the hardware.
  • Fewer grid lines on long patterns until you zoom in.
  • Windows: menus are readable (they were white text on white).

macOS

  • DECKARD detects NIHostIntegrationAgent and offers to stop it, since it makes the hardware look dead.

Not yet tried on real hardware

The Launchpad changes, the MK3 step grid, and the Windows fixes. Reports welcome.

0.2.0

@summitt summitt released this 02 Nov 03:54

DECKARD 0.2.0: everything since the 0.1.0 Early Alpha.

Plug-ins

  • VST3 plug-ins are hosted on Linux and Windows, as on macOS.
  • Windows plug-ins on Linux: Preferences installs Wine and yabridge and bridges what's installed into Wine. With Wine 9.22 or later, Preferences also notices that yabridge 5.1.1's windows take no input and offers to build yabridge from source (build tools installed with a password). See docs/windows-plugins-troubleshooting.md.
  • The platform's standard plug-in folders are always searched; folders you add in Preferences are what's saved. Windows also searches Native Instruments' "VSTPlugins 64 bit".

About, updates and Splice

  • Help ▸ About: version, creator, contributors from GitHub, sponsor links, licences.
  • Release builds check for a newer release at launch (Preferences ▸ General) and can download, verify and install it from the About window.
  • Help ▸ Sounds on Splice, and a Splice button at the top of the LIBRARY tab (DECKARD's referral link).

Recording and editing

  • Recording into a group with no pattern makes one; the count-in starts from the beginning; an Auto-length pattern grows for as long as REC is on.
  • Copy and paste: ⌘C / ⌘V (Ctrl on Linux and Windows) work again for sounds, groups, notes and macros, in the Sound list, the Group list and the Pattern Editor; notes paste onto the sound or group clicked.

Controller

  • The mod matrix (SHIFT + SOLO) opens on Depth in every column, so a fast turn no longer runs a route's source down to None and removes it.
  • With DECKARD_LOG_ROUTES=1, every change to a sound's modulation routes is printed, to trace a lost route.

Builds

  • The release's version comes from its tag.
