Visual Studio Code got a new official icon (also insiders).
microsoft/vscode#6607 (comment)

visual-studio-code

(On a side note, I've noticed that on my XFCE panel window button vscode is represented by the "stock" icon, not the one provided by the theme)
Edit: Saw that VSCode is in the list of apps with hardcoded icons, must be that kicking in.

I have to say that the existing icon looks better compared to the new one in my opinion.

Maybe change only color on existing icon...

Could possibly use just the center bit of the new icon, without the "frame" surrounding it? It's of course up to you, but I actually like the new icon as it's nice and flat.

Here's a quick edit of the current icon to illustrate (can't attach svgs, so here's a png...) :

I personally always prefer something resembling official icons (as is generally the case with this theme). The theme's current inverted purple icon feels a little "off" to me, as it uses the Visual Studio palette (not Code).

This is not the Linux icon, note. The actual Linux icon is different, the VSCode team has probably decided to change the icon to the macOS icon.

Apparently they're reverting to the blue color, but keeping with the new design as of next month's release:

The new design with the blue works much better than their previous choice of orange in my opinion.

@skmkenn Totally agree. By the way, the orange one was used to indicate oncoming Halloween.

Any update on this?

Yes please, it is aesthetically unappealing to use. Also, the Insider version needs to be updated as well so that would be appreciated.
