Linux gets an AppImage.

Added

  • An AppImage for Linux, published alongside the plain binary and the tarball. It carries its own desktop entry and icon, so a file manager and an application menu treat it as an application rather than as an unnamed executable, and nothing is installed system-wide. The plain binary stays for headless and scripted use, where an AppImage is awkward, and every existing download link keeps working.
  • The packaged icon is rendered from the application's own drawing code during the build rather than stored as a file, so it cannot drift from the icon the window actually shows.

Fixed

  • Self-update from inside an AppImage would have failed before it started. sys.executable points into the read-only squashfs mounted at /tmp/.mount_*, so the download could not even create its temporary file beside it, and replacing that path was never what the user meant. The runtime exports APPIMAGE with the path of the file they downloaded, and that is now what an update replaces. An AppImage also updates to an AppImage: handing it the bare binary would have stripped the desktop entry and icon it was installed for.
