BaseHalf 0.6.0 - Images, Video, and Sound With Your Own Keys, PDFs and Books, Undo That Brings It All Back

This release lets you make images, videos, and sounds on the canvas with the providers you already use, opens PDFs and books to read, and makes every change on the canvas one step that undo puts back exactly.

Images, Video, and Sound

  • A generated file is its card. New Image, New Video, and New Audio make a draft card. Its panel holds the inputs, the prompt, the model, and its settings, and Generate makes the file. The file is the card: an ordinary image, video, or sound in your folder, which you rename and move like any file. It keeps the prompt, model, settings, and inputs that made it, and New Version starts a new draft from them.
  • Connections are the inputs. Connect images, videos, sounds, and notes to a draft, or add them with the buttons at the panel's top right or with Pick on Canvas. Mention them in the prompt with @; a mention follows its card when the card is renamed. Every input is sent.
  • 16 providers, your own keys. Images from 11 providers (37 models), video from 12 (51 models), and sound from 5 (18 models), among them ByteDance (Seedance), Kling, Alibaba (Wan, Qwen-Image), MiniMax (Hailuo), Vidu, Google, PixVerse, Luma, Runway, xAI, LTX, Black Forest Labs, OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Fish Audio, and Mureka. Set a provider up once in Settings > BaseHalf > Providers, with its region and an optional endpoint. Keys are stored encrypted on your computer, and requests go from your computer to the provider.
  • Each model's own settings. The panel offers exactly what the chosen model accepts, narrowed to what your inputs leave room for, and says why Generate cannot run yet.
  • Speech, music, and sound effects. Speak a note in a provider's voices or your own, make songs from a description or from your lyrics, and make sound effects. Several songs from one generation become one card each.
  • A generation survives a restart. It continues after a reload or a restart and is never sent twice by itself.
  • Videos on cards. A video's picture belongs to its card: the pointer on the card plays it without sound, a click selects the card, and a drag moves it.
  • Trim a video. In Card Detail, select the part to keep, play it, and Trim replaces the video with it. Undo puts the whole video back.
  • Agents can generate too, with the same models and settings.

PDFs and Books

  • A PDF or a book shows its cover on its card, at one size. EPUB, MOBI, and AZW3 books are cards like PDFs. A button at the card's corner hides the cover.
  • Books open to be read in Card Detail, in pages or as one scroll. Grow a note from a passage, and agents can see the passage you selected.

Canvas

  • Undo brings back exactly what a step took. A delete on the canvas happens at once and asks nothing; undo puts the files back as they were, with their places, descriptions, and connections. What you deleted goes to the Trash when the window closes.
  • Several cards are one set. A marquee selects every card it touches. A set moves as one, and its toolbar arranges it in a grid, a row, or a column. Tidy Canvas lays out a whole canvas along its connections, then asks whether to keep the result.
  • Connections by hand. Pull a connection off a card and let go on empty canvas to remove it. A marquee over connections alone selects them.
  • New Folder makes a folder at once, ready to be renamed. The canvas menu has no New File.
  • Rename in place. Double-click a card's name to rename it where it stands. Notes are named without .md.
  • Notes look like notes. A note card shows its note rendered, with tables, images, and task boxes. A scroll that starts on a long note scrolls the note; one that starts on the canvas moves the canvas.
  • A card goes where you point, and the view stays where it is. Only text cards resize; an image or a video card has its picture's shape.

Agents

  • Agents can see what you selected: the folder of the canvas, one or several cards, or text in a note, a PDF, or a book. The status bar shows what they see.
  • The skill for your agents keeps itself up to date. BaseHalf installs its skill for Claude Code and Codex once, as a link to its own copy, and every update of BaseHalf brings the copy up to date; your agents' folders are not touched again. The offer stays until you answer it, and while it is unanswered the status bar says "Agents can't see your selection"; a click on it shows the offer.

Updates and Settings

  • An update is downloaded once. An interrupted download continues, and a ready update is installed when you quit BaseHalf, or at the latest at the next start. Nothing opens after an update.
  • About and Providers are pages in Settings, under BaseHalf. About shows the version and the update; its Release Notes opens this page.

Look and Feel

  • VS Code's dark theme and card layout for the sidebar, the canvas area, and the Agent Area, and Git's status colors in Files and Source Control.
  • The title bar holds the buttons of the sidebar and the Agent Area, and the path of what you see: a click on it opens the search.
  • Calmer surfaces. No system tooltips, sound that fades in and out, and Card Detail that fades in place.
  • A smoother Agent Area. Trackpad scrolling moves as far as in a native terminal, and screen reader mode stays off unless you turn it on.

Coming From 0.5.0

  • Video nodes made with 0.5.0 are not used any more: each shows as an ordinary file, and their outputs folder as an ordinary folder. Set up your providers' keys again in Settings > BaseHalf > Providers.
  • If you installed the skill for your agents with 0.5.0, BaseHalf asks once more, with Update. After that it keeps the skill up to date by itself.
  • This update is downloaded by the updater of 0.5.0: if you quit BaseHalf while it downloads, the download starts over at the next start. From 0.6.0 on, a download continues where it stopped.

BaseHalf 0.5.0 - Connections in Your Files, Cards That Follow, AI Video Built In

This release changes where BaseHalf keeps what it knows about your cards, and makes that follow your files wherever they go.

  • Connections live in your files. Connecting two cards saves the connection with the card it points to. For a note, that is inside the note itself, so agents and other tools that read the note see it too. For PDFs, folders, and other files, BaseHalf keeps the list for you. Connections from earlier versions move into your files after you confirm.
  • Cards follow their files. A card keeps its description, its place, and its connections when its file or folder is renamed or moved outside BaseHalf, by you or by an agent, also while BaseHalf is closed. Many files renamed at once are followed together. A file that was also rewritten for the most part starts as a new card.
  • No more questions after a move. When a file or folder is moved or renamed, BaseHalf updates the upstream lists that name it by itself.
  • Every card keeps its place. The card of a new file goes after the last card, no other card moves, and BaseHalf never puts a card on top of another one. Card positions stay on your computer and out of git, so moving a card no longer shows up as a change there. Descriptions and connections are shared through git as before.
  • AI Video is built in. It works from the first start with nothing to install. The Plugins library is gone, and the sidebar is Files, Git, and Search.
  • Executable nodes on the main canvas. File, Image, Video, Audio, PDF, and Presentation nodes go from an editable Draft through Attempts to one sealed Result file. Model-service connections are set up once, and API keys stay in encrypted credential storage.
  • Editing on the canvas. Markdown cards can be edited in place, with a formatting toolbar, and cards can be resized.
  • Agents. BaseHalf can install a skill for Claude Code, Codex, and other agents, so that they know where a card's description and connections are. It asks first, and adds the skill to the agents' own settings, not to your folder. Agents can rename and move files with their ordinary tools.
  • Fewer interruptions. When BaseHalf cannot read something it saved for a canvas or a card, it keeps working with what it can read and keeps a copy of the rest. It never asks you to open or fix a file.

Your Files

  • BaseHalf removes the files that earlier versions kept for itself and no longer uses, and offers to remove the sections it added to CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md.
  • If you keep your notes in git: the removed files show up as deletions, and BaseHalf no longer edits .gitignore. Card positions that an earlier version committed stay in git until you remove them there.

BaseHalf 0.4.1 - Canvas and Agent Area Polish

This release tightens the VS Code-based BaseHalf line that started in 0.4.0.

  • Canvas and references: directed context-flow references, the React Flow live scene, native context menus, adaptive cards, badge toggle polish, snap guides, and steadier zoom/navigation coverage.
  • Markdown card detail: rich/source/preview projections stay on one working copy, with external-change merge, single-owner undo/redo, IME-safe autosave, rich clipboard, file-link autocomplete, and source fallback for passthrough blocks.
  • Agent Area: terminal commands and extension-created terminals route into BaseHalf's Agent Area, with stronger tabs, splits, and TUI session lifecycle behavior.
  • Files, Git, and Search: Explorer/Search opens stay in the canvas/card flow, while Git provider, branch checkout, refresh, and publish-branch paths are covered by smoke.
  • Release path: signed update feed, branded macOS DMG, release notes system page, expanded smoke coverage, and Electron unit coverage.

BaseHalf 0.4.0 - New VS Code Foundation

BaseHalf now runs on a full VS Code foundation while keeping the BaseHalf product shape:

  • Canvas-first workflow: folders open as canvases, files open as cards, and the right side remains the Agent Area.
  • Native editor, search, and source control infrastructure: this release adopts VS Code's editor core, Git/SCM, search, extension host, update, notification, and command foundations where they make the product stronger.
  • Agent Area sessions: TUI Codex, TUI Claude Code, VS Code extension Codex, VS Code extension Claude Code, and Terminal remain the five first-class session choices.
  • Curated extension path: Codex and Claude Code extension sessions install through the curated extension flow and update through the VS Code extension machinery.
  • Compatible self-update path: existing 0.3.x users receive this release through the signed in-app update feed.
