MIssing "Run with PowerShell" in context menu after enabling it

Steps to reproduce

Enable context menu before installing PowerShell-7.4.1-win-x64.msi

Expected behavior

Supposed to see "Run with PowerShell" in the context menu

Actual behavior

There is no "Run with PowerShell" in the context menu

To provide context:

De facto the shell integration changed fundamentally between Windows PowerShell and PowerShell (Core):

• Windows PowerShell offered a shortcut-menu command directly on .ps1 script files, named Run with PowerShell

• By contrast, PowerShell (Core) only provides shortcut-menu commands at the level of folders (directories) and drives.

  • That is, you can open a PowerShell console in the selected folder or drive, but you can not directly execute individual .ps1 files.

This is contradicted by the MSI installer still offering the following option:

• Add 'Run with PowerShell 7' context menu for PowerShell file (note how the name differs from Windows PowerShell's Run with PowerShell command).

In practice, this option is ignored - as you've experienced.

Therefore, someone from the PowerShell team needs to clarify whether:

• (a) the option offered in the MSI package's GUI is obsolete and should therefore be removed.
• or (b), whether a command for script-file-individual execution is still meant to be provided, in which case a bug fix is required.
