PatchPilot 0.9.3 — Windows update completion fix

Choose a tag to compare

@ProsperTechnology ProsperTechnology released this 01 Nov 17:10

PatchPilot v0.9.3 fixes the Windows update approval-window hang.

  • Closing the completed or canceled Windows update review now ends its worker process, releases the update lock and restores the main window controls.
  • An active Windows update still blocks closing until the current update finishes. Choose Done or Close in the separate review window afterward.
  • Includes v0.9.2's optional desktop shortcut and minimize-to-tray settings.

Upgrade: close PatchPilot and run the Setup EXE over your existing installation. Preferences, history and existing activation files are retained. If an older build is stuck after completion, end PatchPilot in Task Manager first (administrator access may be needed for its elevated worker). Do not end Windows servicing processes.

Downloads:

  • Setup.exe: recommended Windows installer.
  • Customer-Download.zip: installer plus installation and activation instructions; also supplied on Gumroad.
  • Portable.zip: unpack and run without installing.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: file integrity checksums. GitHub's source-code archives contain this public documentation repository, not the private application source.

Verification: 67 xUnit tests, 103 core/provider/overview/maintenance checks, 11 isolated installer checks and one new WPF lifecycle regression check passed. The original hang was reproduced independently. Tests did not install any real Windows updates.

Windows 10 22H2 / Windows 11, x64. Unsigned early-access release; Windows SmartScreen may warn. Checksums establish integrity, not publisher identity. Free checks remain free; optional Full access is $1.99/month for one PC with up to seven days offline access after a successful check, capped by a known membership end.

PatchPilot 0.9.2 — early access

PatchPilot by Prosper Technologies adds two optional setup choices:

  • Create a desktop shortcut. Uninstall removes shortcuts owned by PatchPilot.
  • Minimize to the notification area (system tray). Double-click the icon or choose Open PatchPilot to restore the window. The tray menu also has Exit. Closing the main window still exits.

Tray behavior can also be changed later in Preferences. Setup preserves existing preferences, history and activation; close PatchPilot before upgrading.

Which download?

Most users: download PatchPilot-0.9.2-Setup.exe. The Customer Download ZIP contains that same installer plus instructions. The Portable ZIP runs without installation; approved background maintenance requires the installed copy. You only need one download.

Windows 11 or Windows 10 22H2, x64. Desktop runtime included. Free checks and records; optional Full access is $1.99 USD/month for one PC, with up to seven days offline after a successful check, capped by a known membership end.

Validation passed: 66 .NET tests, 103 core/overview/provider/maintenance checks, 11 isolated installer checks and 12 subscription/tray interface checks, including hiding the upgrade button after successful activation and restoring the window from the tray.

Unsigned early access: Windows SmartScreen may warn. Verify the file against SHA256SUMS.txt. Broad clean-machine, real vendor-update and real charged renewal/cancellation/refund acceptance testing remains incomplete. No Store approval or independent security audit is claimed.

Downloads

Use PatchPilot-0.9.1-Setup.exe for the per-user installation. PatchPilot-0.9.1-Customer-Download.zip contains that installer and customer instructions. The portable download is separate; approved background maintenance requires the installed copy.

Windows 11 or Windows 10 22H2, x64. Desktop runtime included. WinGet is needed for app updates. No drivers, general Windows/app rollback, antivirus or remote management. Vendor installers may require their own permissions or terms. PatchPilot never requests an automatic restart.

Unsigned early access: SmartScreen may warn. No Microsoft Store approval or independent security audit is claimed. Verify file integrity using SHA256SUMS.txt.

Automated validation: 66 .NET tests; 103 core/overview/provider/maintenance checks; 8 isolated installer checks; 55 interface and 6 subscription-interface checks; 9 Worker tests. A clean Windows GitHub build passed. Twelve live desktop subscription-client/service checks passed using a genuine no-charge Gumroad creator key, including activation, refresh, one-PC enforcement and transfer. The temporary test exception was removed and production again rejects test purchases. Both Gumroad products deliver v0.9.1; a buyer-receipt download matched the release checksum. Broad clean-machine, real vendor-update and real charged renewal/cancellation/refund acceptance testing remains incomplete.
