Numlex 4.9.3

Two additions, both about working the way you already do: a bounded inline
total that sums only the last few lines, and notebook typography that can use
any font installed on your Mac.

New in this release

total last N — a total over the lines right above it

total still sums the eligible rows of its section. The new bounded form,
total last N, sums only the eligible values found in the N immediately
preceding logical lines
of that same section, and then resets the section
exactly like plain total.

10
20

30
total last 2 → 30 (the blank line took a slot and added nothing)
40
50
total last 3 → 90 (only 40 and 50 were in the window)
total → 0 (the section was already reset)

N counts logical lines, not results: blank lines, comments, prose,
errors, money and unit rows, bare tokens and derived rows (subtotals, grand
totals, tag aggregates) each take one slot and contribute nothing. Everything
else is unchanged — the same eligibility rules, the same section boundaries
(the nearest total, total last N, # heading or exact --- divider), the
same semibold presentation, and the same reset afterwards, so a following
total starts empty. N must be a positive whole number: total last 0,
total last -3, total last 3.5, a missing count, trailing words or an
overflowing number are ordinary lines, not commands. A variable or constant
named total still shadows both forms. Overflow or a rand-dependent value
outside the chosen window no longer affects the result — only the selected
lines do.

Choose any installed font family and face

Settings → Styling → Font keeps the four built-in designs (System Default,
Rounded, Serif, Monospaced) and adds an Installed Fonts submenu listing
every family installed on your Mac, with a Face row for the exact
weight/style once a family is chosen. The first face entry, Regular, means
the family's own regular face.

Your choice applies everywhere notebook text appears — the editor, the answer
column (totals included), the footer value, the Styling preview and the
export dialog's Notebook font — and is saved app-wide. Line height grows
automatically when a font's natural metrics are taller than the built-in
designs', so glyphs are never clipped. If a chosen font is later uninstalled,
the stored name is kept and marked Unavailable in Settings while text
falls back to the selected built-in design; reinstalling the font restores it.
Choosing a built-in design clears the custom family and face. Font and face
names come from macOS and are shown exactly as macOS reports them.

Also in this release

  • Robustness: the installed-font list now excludes private system families
(the hidden dot-prefixed ones macOS reports internally) and any family with
no usable face, so a font that cannot actually be rendered is never offered
or treated as available. This is an internal availability correction with no
visible change on a normal system.

Unchanged

  • The plain installer image: exactly Numlex.app and an Applications
shortcut on a plain, read-only disk image — no styled artwork.
  • Ad-hoc signed, not notarized; Apple Silicon (arm64); macOS 26 minimum.
  • Everything else: one-time welcome, dates & times, durations, timezones,
timestamps, Timespan, timecode, work calendars and special dates; finance
(compound interest, ROI/CAGR, present value, loans, tax presets, 2026
    income-tax estimates and BLS CPI-U inflation); PDF export and printing;
tags, dividers, subtotals and statistics; 27 built-in functions and the
    adaptive floating Total.

Updates

Secure in-app updates are unchanged: HTTPS-only feed, EdDSA-signed archives
verified before extraction, Sparkle 2.9.6. 4.8.0 was the first updater-enabled
release, so 4.8.x users receive 4.9.3 in the app and users on 4.7.0 or earlier
install this release manually once from the .dmg, then update in-app
afterwards. The published feed advertises this release at
https://numlex.tech/appcast.xml.

Privacy

Numlex is offline-first. Calculations, catalogs and exports are local; the app
sends no identifiers, no analytics and no usage data. Network access is limited
to background currency rates and the Open-Meteo weather/geocoding lookups that
explicit weather in … or geography lines request. The only request an update
makes is a plain GET of the version-pinned asset URL above, and only after you
accept an update. System profiling in the updater is disabled
(SUEnableSystemProfiling = false).

Installation

  • macOS 26 or later, Apple Silicon (arm64).
  • 4.9.3 is 10,752,649 bytes; SHA-256
    fc48cd3cab9cd00e5f53e19c32380f1255f5765f9f3a4b4e6ade6b4ad7a6f46a (also
    in SHA256SUMS on the release page: shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS).
  • Open the plain, read-only disk image and drag Numlex.app into
    Applications.
  • The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized (a deliberate choice for
this project). On first launch, Control-click the app and choose Open,
or allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → "Open Anyway".
  • Users on 4.8.x receive 4.9.3 in the app; users on 4.7.0 or earlier install
this release manually once and update in-app afterwards.

Verification

The release image is validated by the repository's own gate before
publication: read-only UDZO disk image with exactly Numlex.app and an
Applications shortcut at the root, version and bundle id checks, arm64-only
executable, strict ad-hoc signature verification of the app and every nested
Sparkle component, Sparkle 2.9.6 policy (HTTPS feed, EdDSA public key,
verify-before-extraction, profiling off), all five offline catalogs present at
the standard location, and the packaged Assets.car matching the compiled
catalog. The packaged app is additionally copied outside the repository and
proven to load all five offline catalogs from the copy.

4.9.0 / 4.9.1 / 4.9.2 are untouched

Their GitHub releases, tags, notes and assets remain exactly as published;
nothing was replaced, edited or re-uploaded. 4.9.3 is a new, separate
release.
