RayNmeaSimulator v0.1.1
RayNmeaSimulator v0.1.1 is a maintenance release. Engineering qualification and the owner's personal installation/About-version checks passed for all four final packages.
Downloads
Choose the package for your system. Complete matching source and licenses: Source-and-Verification companion. This is the corresponding-source download for all four installers; GitHub's automatic source links do not replace it.
- Windows x64 ZIP — extract and run the enclosed per-user installer.
- Linux x86_64 — qualified on Ubuntu 24.04 and Mint 22.3.
- Native Linux ARM64 — qualified on Debian 13 ARM64.
- Debian 12 ARM64 — use this separate baseline package on Debian 12; do not substitute the native ARM64 archive or upgrade OS libraries to fit it.
For Linux, extract the archive and run ./install.sh from the extracted RayNmeaSimulator directory in a terminal. Missing supported runtime prerequisites require explicit consent. Python 3.11+ is required. Existing settings, credentials, Templates and Layouts remain outside the managed program prefix.
Maintenance improvements
- Help and About Support actions prefer the RF StateSide checkout after a short bounded availability check. Any failed or invalid check selects the existing direct PayPal fallback. Each explicit action hands off to the browser once; no second checkout opens automatically afterward.
- Linux checks the
secret-toolexecutable and offers missinglibsecret-toolsthrough the existing consent policy. A missing executable is distinguished from an unavailable or locked Secret Service. No automatic OS/glibc/system-Qt upgrade is performed. - CANable SLCAN diagnostics and Linux troubleshooting Help explain device permissions, session/group renewal, competing applications and explicit reconnection. Serial groups and operational interfaces are not changed automatically.
- Earlier recognized development launchers can be backed up and replaced after explicit consent. Intact official v0.1.0 registrations upgrade normally. Narrowly verified edited v0.1.0 launchers, including the accepted Mint properties-editor case, receive a clear backup/replacement choice. Approval resets launcher properties to the new defaults, including
Terminal=false, while preserving the original bytes/permissions in a recoverable backup. Declined, unrelated, ambiguous and unsafe conflicts remain protected; backups survive uninstall. - The previously completed and accepted Safety notice is now included in the distributed binaries' compiled offline Help. Its approved wording is preserved. Read Help → Using RayNmeaSimulator Safely or the Safety notice.
Source, operation and limitations
All four packages were built from clean commit bb6b11f45ec99ef3c9cbe6f70f1fcf0951fefe61, the exact target of annotated tag v0.1.1. The source companion contains all four complete platform source kits, exact upstream source inputs, licenses/notices, rebuild/install instructions, source/binary receipts, metadata and checksums. Independent restores checked 733 application files/modes per kit and all dependency inputs; restored compiled resource probes passed.
This patch adds no simulator transport capability. Existing platform/transport limitations apply. Six bundled Templates and the 8-group/35-widget Default Layout are retained. Loading a Layout or Template does not authorize Sending; explicit Sending authorization remains required. No navigation, safety-system or hardware certification is asserted. Consult the approved Safety notice and User Guide.
Measured Linux ABI floors: x86_64 and native ARM64 require GLIBC 2.38, GLIBCXX 3.4.32 and CXXABI 1.3.15; the separate Debian12 ARM64 package measures GLIBC 2.35, GLIBCXX 3.4.30 and CXXABI 1.3.13. ABI floors alone do not promise support for every older distribution; Python and verified distro runtime prerequisites still apply.
Corrected v0.1.0 installations use the repository-hosted updater. Original v0.1.0 builds with the older Release-attachment checker may require manual download. Checking for updates never automatically downloads or installs a package. The original v0.1.0 Release, tag and five assets are preserved.
Verification
These hashes identify the outer download archives. The source companion includes receipts binding each binary to its complete corresponding source.

RayNmeaSimulator v0.1.0
RayNmeaSimulator v0.1.0 is an open-source NMEA 2000/NMEA 0183 simulator and viewer for marine-electronics development, integration and controlled bench testing.
Capabilities
- Inspect supported incoming messages in Viewer RX, or assemble a virtual vessel in Generate using instruments and optional generators.
- Exercise vessel movement manually, with a compatible mapped game controller, or through route-following Autopilot. Use supported navigation data with chartplotters and applications such as OpenCPN.
- Simulate engines, transmissions, AIS targets, weather, tanks and electrical systems. The Help reference documents 48 NMEA 2000 PGNs and 18 NMEA 0183 formatters with their supported directions and limits.
- Connect through Network NMEA 2000/RayNetworkBridge, Linux SocketCAN, supported serial CAN adapters and NMEA 0183 serial interfaces. Publish supported mapped measurements to Signal K.
- Import GPX/KML routes, manage reusable user Templates and Layouts, and start with six read-only bundled Templates: Default, Environment / Weather, Navigation / Autopilot, Single Engine, Synthetic AIS Demonstration and Twin Engine. The included Default Layout contains eight groups and 35 widgets.
- Read the 52-topic manual offline from Help or F1, search its contents, and enlarge its illustrations. Help → Check for Updates… checks official stable releases on request; it does not download, install or restart the application.
Four installation packages
| Platform | Download | Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Windows x64 | RayNmeaSimulator-0.1.0-Windows-x64.zip | Extract the ZIP and run the enclosed Setup.exe. |
| Linux x86_64 | RayNmeaSimulator-0.1.0-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz | Qualified on Ubuntu 24.04 and Linux Mint 22.3; native ABI requirements below. |
| Native Linux ARM64 | RayNmeaSimulator-0.1.0-Linux-aarch64.tar.gz | Compatible newer ARM64 systems; use the separate package below for Debian 12. |
| Debian 12 ARM64 | RayNmeaSimulator-0.1.0-Linux-aarch64-Debian12.tar.gz | Distinct Debian 12-compatible ARM64 runtime. |
These corrected packages retain version 0.1.0. To replace an earlier 0.1.0 installation, manually download and install the appropriate package; a same-version correction is not offered as a newer semantic version.
Packages include the required Qt runtime. Qt Creator and a Qt developer SDK are not required to run them. Linux needs Python 3.11+, OpenSSL 3 and compatible desktop/system libraries. Native Linux requires GLIBC 2.38, GLIBCXX 3.4.32 and CXXABI 1.3.15. Debian 12 ARM64 requires GLIBC 2.35, GLIBCXX 3.4.30 and CXXABI 1.3.13. Do not upgrade system glibc to force an incompatible package to run.
Linux installation and missing prerequisites
Close an existing application, extract the archive into a new directory, enter RayNmeaSimulator, then run ./install.sh as your normal user. The default prefix is ~/.local/opt/RayNmeaSimulator. Launch its RayNmeaSimulator wrapper or desktop entry; upgrade using the same prefix and uninstall using the installed uninstall.sh.
The installer checks the actual executable and XCB/SVG/TLS plugin requirements, including libxcb-cursor0. If verified runtime packages are missing on supported Debian/Ubuntu/Mint systems, it shows them and asks for explicit consent before using apt/administrator privileges. Declining, being offline or failing the prerequisite check does not replace an existing managed application. No OS/library upgrade, glibc replacement or system Qt installation is performed. ./install.sh --dependencies check --non-interactive never authorizes package installation. Python 3.11+ must already be present.
Settings, Layouts, Templates, themes, routes and credentials remain separate from managed program files; uninstall preserves them. Keep important user data backed up.
Guidance and limitations
Loading a Template, route or Default Layout does not authorize external Sending. Review the configured identities, connection and test network, then explicitly authorize Sending when appropriate. Enable, Dispatch and external Sending are distinct controls.
Only documented messages, adapters and operating modes are supported. SocketCAN is Linux-specific. Actisense NGT-1 receive is supported; Release transmission is disabled. Signal K supports publishing mapped measurements; raw CAN transport and Viewer subscription are not implemented. Device/firmware compatibility and physical-network configuration require separate checks. macOS binaries and Windows ARM64 packages are not provided. Interoperability with every chartplotter, adapter or vessel system is not claimed.
Public Engineering Reference — AS-IS. Provided without warranty; this is not a certified navigation, vessel-control or safety system. Use it on an appropriately configured test network.
Complete source, notices and verification
Download the complete Corrected Source-and-Verification ZIP (1,250,485,430 bytes).
This single companion contains all four matching platform Source kits, preferred application/dependency sources and approved patches, supplier build configuration, notices, manifests, receipts and checksums. In current/, choose the kit identified by your platform's release-set receipt and follow its REBUILD.md. original-v0.1.0/ retains every original published artifact unchanged, including all original source kits and binaries. Former standalone support downloads are consolidated here.
Corrected binaries were built from clean application/packaging commit bf212fc3389314153911ed5f4b759b9f56e2723f. The original annotated v0.1.0 tag remains at 87cd0912b3e10777e610a82a78156484f66a2c12. GitHub's automatic source-code links refer to that original tag and do not replace the complete matching kits for the corrected binaries.
Application source is AGPL-3.0-or-later; Qt and other redistributed components retain their applicable licenses. Full notices and corresponding-source material are included in the companion.
Check for Updates
Corrected applications read repository-hosted update.json and cross-check the latest official stable Release, package identity/checksum and Linux ABI. Checking never downloads or installs a package; opening the official release page is explicit.
Removing the former Release JSON does not update already-installed executables. Original 0.1.0 clients may still report Current at 0.1.0, but future releases without legacy metadata cannot provide them a verified matching package. Manually install a corrected package to obtain repository-hosted checking.
SHA-256 checksums
Verify the selected outer archive before use. The Windows checksum is for the ZIP; its enclosed installer is identified separately in the companion receipt.

Safety
RayNmeaSimulator is intended for software development, bench testing, simulation, training, and controlled equipment evaluation.
Do not use RayNmeaSimulator as a source of navigation, collision-avoidance, vessel-control, engine-control, or other safety-critical information on an operating vessel.
Generated or simulated NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, AIS, position, heading, speed, depth, engine, route, and other data may appear valid to connected equipment. A chartplotter, display, gateway, logging system, or other receiver may not be able to distinguish simulated data from actual vessel data.
When transmitting generated data:
- Use an isolated or otherwise controlled test network whenever practical.
- Verify the selected connection and connected equipment before enabling Sending.
- Do not connect simulated data to an operational vessel network while underway unless the entire test environment has been specifically isolated from navigation, steering, propulsion, alarm, and other safety-critical systems.
- Do not rely on RayNmeaSimulator, its Autopilot mode, simulated AIS, routes, or generated sensor values for real-world navigation or vessel operation.
- Loading a Layout, Template, route, or received data does not authorize external Sending. Transmission requires explicit user authorization.
- F12 / Stop is an application control, not an emergency-stop or safety system. Already queued or transmitted data cannot be recalled.
