Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction Recompiled 1.1
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction Recompiled 1.1
Smoother, faster, and your saves finally under control.
What's new
- Pick your save slot. Saving and loading now show the game's own slot list. Choose which save to load, which to overwrite, or make a new one.
- The missing voices are back. Dialogue and ambient sound that some levels stream from separate files now play. On Cobalia, for example, a lot of the dialogue was silent in 1.0.
- Less stutter. The vertex cache no longer rebuilds itself in bursts in busy scenes.
- A faster renderer. About 2.5 ms per frame saved in Metropolis, about 1 ms more from hand-written collision code, and the graphics code is now built with a profile recorded across five planets.
Play.batworks again. In 1.0 it failed with a red PowerShell error on many PCs.- Clear error messages when the game cannot start (missing game files, CPU without AVX2, wrong disc key).
- Works from shortcuts and launchers started from another folder, and the installed game can be moved to another drive (move the
game\discfolder and write its path intod.iniasPS3_VFS_ROOT). - Updates in one click: from 1.1 on, the title screen and F1 tell you when a newer version is out, and
Update.batdownloads and installs it for you (it asks first; your settings, saves and shader cache are kept). - Xbox impulse triggers that react to your weapon (not tested on many pads yet).
- Skip a movie by holding Start (or Enter, Esc or Space) for 2 seconds.
Every new speed-up can be turned off in tod.ini if it causes trouble on your PC (RSX_VCKEY_NODEF, RSX_TEXMASK_MEMO, RSX_FPSCAN_MEMO, TOD_COLL_HAND, TOD_SAVE_PICKER: set to 0).
Updating from 1.0
- Close the game.
- Open the 1.1 zip. Inside there is a folder
tod-recomp-1.1: copy everything inside it into
your game folder (the one withtod.exe). When Windows asks, choose Replace the files in the
destination. - Start the game with
Play.batas usual.
From now on it is one click: 1.1 adds Update.bat, which checks GitHub, asks first, downloads the next version and replaces only the port's files.
You do not need to run Install.bat again: the installed game (game\, elf\) stays as it is.
Your settings (tod.ini), your saves (gamedata\) and your shader cache (cache\) are kept,
because the download holds tod.default.ini instead of tod.ini and has no saves or cache in it.
New install
- Unzip the download anywhere.
- Run
Install.batand point it to your own decrypted copy of the game (BCES00052,.isoor disc folder). - Run
Play.bat.
Nothing of the game is included in the download: you need your own disc.
Known issues
- The heaviest scenes (the opening of Metropolis, parts of the Apogee Space Station) are still below 60 fps on mid-range CPUs. This is the main goal of the next updates.
- Some players on Intel 12th-14th gen CPUs report freezes in the same spots (#10). I'm looking into it.
- Shaders are compiled the first time an effect appears, so a new area can stutter on the first visit.

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction Recompiled 1.0
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction Recompiled 1.0
First public release of a native Windows port of Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction (European
PlayStation 3 release, BCES00052), made by static recompilation of the game's PowerPC and SPU code on
the ps3recomp toolkit. There is no emulation at run time:
the game is a normal Direct3D 12 executable. Nothing of the game is included; you need your own
legally dumped copy of the EU disc.
Highlights
- The 3D scene is really 4K. The game renders its scene at 960x704 and stretches it 4/3 in width
afterwards; that stretch is now undone, so Ratchet and the world are sharp at 4K. - Character ground shadows are back, with a reworked shadow bias.
- Faster. Faster native work for the game's SPU jobs (round-toward-zero fast float on 17 graphics
job modules, native animation evaluator, native collision), the graphics command list recorded on
its own thread and a larger vertex cache. On a Ryzen 5 3600 + RTX 3070 at 4K with MSAA x8: Cobalia
60 fps, Pirate Base from about 52 to 58, the arena from 49 to 54, Metropolis from 24 to 31. - Less stutter. About 23% fewer shader pipelines to compile on the first visit to an area, and the
autosave hitch dropped from about 620 ms to about 400 ms. - Fixes: bloom halos, the Apogee holograms over the sky, and the music no longer starves.
- DualSense adaptive triggers that follow the weapon in Ratchet's hands, on by default.
- Rebindable keyboard and mouse in the new F1 > Controls tab.
- Discord Rich Presence, a mods folder (
mods\next totod.exe) and a Saves folder
button in F1 (saves use the RPCS3 folder layout). - Any resolution from 720p to 4K and beyond, FXAA or MSAA x2-x8, 16x anisotropic filtering,
optional ray-traced ambient occlusion (DXR 1.1 GPUs), in-game settings page (F1), game language and
controller button prompts of your choice. - New, experimental, off by default: ultrawide
TOD_ASPECT = 21:9/32:9intod.ini(HUD
stretched, cutscenes stay 16:9) and the mouse camera (F1 > Controls, drives the right stick).
Download and install
