A documentation release. Nothing the emulators do has changed, and no game, page or count moved — GENX_VERSION goes to 1.12.1 and that is the only thing in the site itself that is different.

What it fixes is the licence. GenX-DOS has been dual-licensed since 17 August 2026 — the emulator-facing glue GPL-3.0-or-later, everything else CC BY-NC 4.0 — and that change reached LICENSE.TXT, the SPDX headers and the wiki's Legal page, then stopped. For two months the README, the landing page, the feature article and File Structure all went on describing a single CC BY-NC licence, which is the version most people actually read.

Fixed

  • CONTRIBUTING.md named the wrong licence to contributors. It said a contribution would be licensed CC BY-NC 4.0, which is wrong for anyone touching a glue file — and that is the document governing what a contributor grants. It now names both licences, says which files fall under each, and says a new glue file needs the SPDX header.
  • systems/dos/play.html had no SPDX header. LICENSE.TXT states that every file in the GPL set carries one. Forty-eight did; the IBM PC's, added a month after the split, did not — so the licence file made a claim about the repository that the repository did not support.
  • The feature article had it backwards, saying the orchestration code is CC BY-NC 4.0. The orchestration glue is precisely the GPL part. The landing page and the README's licence section and badge said the same.
  • COPYING was in neither file tree, though the GPL-3.0 text has been at the repo root since the split. ATTRIBUTION.md's table of which licence file covers what had rows for all six bundled ones and none for ours.
  • Two entries File Structure had never been told about — _paddiag.html, and styles/fonts/ described as woff2 when VGA437 is a .woff.

The README now carries two badges, License: CC BY-NC 4.0 and Glue: GPL-3.0-or-later.

Everything else was clean

The orphan sweep over all 1,385 tracked files found nothing; so did every count, the stale-prose blocklist, the social card and the dead-link check. Full detail in CHANGELOG.md.

The download

GenX-DOS-v1.12.1.zip is the whole site, ready to open GenX-DOS.sh (or GenX-DOS.bat) and run locally. As always it carries the emulators and not the games: ROMS.txt lists every file left out and the folder it belongs in.
